Breakfast Topic: What's your WoW grudge?

I started off on the Alliance side, and it's still where my mains are. My first character, my paladin, was leveled tentatively and badly, with only minimal skill and understanding. We all have to learn somewhere!
One of my main memories from that period was dying. Dying a lot. I don't know now whether I'd have the skill to do the Ironman Challenge, but I sure didn't then, and things killed me constantly. I didn't understand about aggro linking, where if you taunt one mob, any mob near to it will be taunted too, and I wasn't great at using my abilities. I was holy, to improve the healing, and I didn't have the early damaging skills pallies get now.
This made me angry. So whenever I see Hogger, who must have killed me 20 or 30 times, I take my revenge. It's harder now that he's down in the Stockades, but when I went down there to take the screenshot in the header and killed him, I still thought "Ha!"
And murlocs -- they're high on my grudge list. My God, they killed me a lot. If I encounter a gang of murlocs while I'm out herbing, I'm sorry. They're going down.
I mentioned monsters from the Alliance side, as I really don't know what the Horde equivalent of Hogger and murlocs would be. Do let me know! I'll go and kill them for you.
Should I seek professional help? Do you hold irrational grudges against mobs or bosses that killed you over and over again? And if you do, who or what are they?

When I first logged into my first ever character, in Teldrassil, I had no idea where to go, what to do, or what quests were. So I decided to go exploring. Imagine my horror when a huge (okay, not by game standards, but it was huge to me at the time) green spider comes barrelling out of nowhere and chomps me to death?
I wasn't stupid enough to go back and let it kill me over and over, but I still have a grudge against those spiders. If I make a night elf, I kill every. last. one.
ravyncat Mar 15th 2012 9:46AM
Those spiders...*shudder*
Remember when that whole cave was full of red mob spiders and the Mother spider was an elite? My first character had a very horrible experience there just trying to get out of that first zone.
I think I died 6-7 times on that quest.
I never saved the poor poisoned Nelf nearby because of those dreadful spiders either.
Now it is much easier to get through there.
Spiders aren't particularly on my grudge list, but I don't ever like them. And WoW has so many. UGH.
The giant monster one in Terrokar Forest made me scream and jump away from my computer the first time I saw it. XD

My new favorite 'HO CRAP' moment was in EP the other day. I was on a little arcane mage and came across a rare gargoyle standing on a node (he's a miner). I thought it was a statue, I didn't even click on it, and when the thing attacked me I jumped enough to knock my keyboard off the table.
And that was just the other day XD.

There was a group of centaurs in Thousand Needles that annoyed me to no end. So, knowing that they would be gone in Cataclysm (with their village underwater), I spent the last few minutes before our server went down to roll out the Cataclysm content killing them, just to make sure they STAYED dead.

I hold a very firm grudge against myself and my ridiculous hardmode.
ravyncat Mar 15th 2012 9:48AM
Your regular mode was hard too for my guild.
We celebrated like crazy when you finally died...it was "Good news!" indeed. XD

Fel Orcs in Hellfire

definitely my grudge is with Murlocs but also with all pigs in Westfall - you used to have to collect those 8 livers from them and the things just refused to drop.
At one time I went down there on my main and farmed about a stack of them and used to just send them to new alts to get the quest completed.
They are really randomly spread as well - they fixed it now and they seem to drop every time now

Sons of Arugal. The REAL reason I never got a Forsaken past 20.
Killik Mar 15th 2012 9:18AM
Sons of Arugal were really scary. Memories of levelling in Silverpine and sneaking through the treeline always trying to keep one in line of sight. It was the one you didn't see that killed you.
Ata Mar 15th 2012 1:02PM
They left an old worgen model Son of Arugal wandering around Silverpine, but while its still Elite, its nowhere near as rough as it used to be...
But I still ran away from it reflexively upon seeing it for the first time.
Zyina Mar 15th 2012 8:58AM
On any char I level past 80 I don't miss the opportunity to kill a Fel Reaver. Repeatedly. I leveled my first char in Hellfire long before we got flying at level 60 and could safely move out of harm's way on short notice. The thing ROFLstomped! me once or twice - that wasn't the worst, I died a lot anyhow, but its screech made my skin crawl - and afterwards I kept turning my camera around every 30 second and jumped out of my skin every time the ground shook...
Camo Mar 15th 2012 8:58AM
The Apes in STV around the road to Booty Bay.
Well, on the other hand mid 20 might not have been the appropriate level to travel there...
Killik Mar 15th 2012 9:26AM
That hooting aggro sound...
Well, this topic has taught me that I seem to hold a grudge against every mob in World of Warcraft... Surprised nobody's mentioned Welcome Bear thus far though.
TJ Mar 15th 2012 9:03AM
I have but 1 grudge. RNG. No matter what, I can never win a roll on something I need or want. When I run LFR on my priest, I can never roll higher than a 29 (129 with bonus).
xenothaulus Mar 15th 2012 9:04AM
Son of Arugal. Full stop. Anyone questing in Silverpine Forest back in Vanilla knows. I started to think the Sons were controlled by deviant developers who just enjoyed making players lives hell. I pretty much still do.

Murlocs are a universal menace. Frankly, I'm surprised that the Horde and the Alliance never said aside their eternal enmity *solely* to go on a crossfactional genocidal rampage against the mucousy turkey-gobble spouting freaks with their spears and their casters and their seventeen hundred nautical mile aggro radius. Murlocs were the bane of my existence as a young Hordie paladin in the Ghostlands -- thousands of orders of magnitude more baneful than Knucklerot and Luzran, despite their unlikely powers of stealth -- and it wasn't until the Winterfin quests in Northrend wherein you have to rescue adorkable murloc tadpoles who call you "Momma!" that I finally became reconciled to not being able to kill all of them.
AltMaster Mar 15th 2012 9:17AM
Murlocs are one of the most regular memories of the murderers I met early in my WoW life. Particularly the ones in Elwynn forest around Crystal Lake.
That said, I have a more specific grudge. I was around level 19 and working my way to Menethil Harbor. I was staying carefully on the road, as one of the tips on the loading screen implied I'd be safe if I did that. I was just about to cross that last bridge into Menethil when a crocolisk attacked me EVEN THOUGH I WAS ON THE ROAD! I fought valiantly, but, alas I perished. I was pissed, so I let him kill me three more times hoping I'd have a chance *this* time. No joy.
For months after that I killed that sucker whenever I was there. If he wasn't by the bridge I'd head off into the swampy fields and find him. I rarely have reason to be walking into Menethil these days, but if I were to do so, I promise, there'd be crocolisk stew for dinner.

I'm not entirely sure this counts, but the thing(s) that killed me most often when leveling my original main: Blood Elf Paladins.
This likely had a lot to do with the fact that I was leveling on a PVP server where there were more Blood Elves than there were Alliance members. So it stands to reason that I would see a lot of them, out in contested areas. But it just seemed to me that no matter where I tried to quest as a young warlock, there was a Blood Elf waiting to one-shot me with her Judgement.
Even now that I have defected to the Horde, I still feel a bit of resentment whenever I come across a Blood Elf Paladin, out in the world. Though I'm technically on their side, now, I don't think I'll ever forgive them for the thousands of corpse runs across Hillsbrad Foothills they cost me.
Killik Mar 15th 2012 9:22AM
Ornery Plainstriders that corpse-camped my first character when I got lost at level 3.
Rock Giant that trampled me into dirt when I swam ashore in mid-Azshara during a level 24 exploration trip.
