We don't have a "filler" Raid planned. We have a wealth of information that we've been sharing with the media and press this week that they'll start sharing with you all next week (Monday, March, 19). While we aren't going to give you a release date, I think you'll get a good idea of how far along we are in the development of the expansion. We think you'll like what you see/hear/read.
We'll also be keeping an eye on any and all constructive feedback and answering what we can as development continues.
-----
We'll do our best to give everyone as much of a "heads-up" as possible when we do provide a release date. Don't worry. As always, you'll see it when you see it. :)
I'll add onto this with some additional thoughts.
There are still a lot of things to do and be done in the game currently beyond Raid content. We generally see people begin to "finish" content they may have not gotten to prior to the release of a new expansion or expansion patch and I think once we start talking about beta and getting people into the beta, we'll see more people posting about what those things are. There will be a lot more to do when Mists of Pandaria becomes available (new/additional things), that may take your focus from completing some of the things you're working on (or plan to work on) now. It's a good time to start thinking about what those things may be.
I'm not going to hint at how long that may be, so don't ask. It's just something to think about.

People have got to check themselves.
No game company can create new content faster than players can consume it.
WOW is not, repeat not the reason for your existence.
Chill people!

"While we aren't going to give you a release date, I think you'll get a good idea of how far along we are in the development of the expansion. We think you'll like what you see/hear/read."
That sounds very encouraging. Kind of scary that they would even mention the word release date.
Duerma Mar 15th 2012 10:32PM
Nah, that's the first thing everyone's wants to know. I think it was smart of them to say NO, BYE.
Noyou Mar 15th 2012 11:00PM
I am not saying anything close to them giving a release date- but from what I quoted, it sure sounds a lot like: "Don't worry about the filler raid- we are going to have this ready a lot sooner than you think". Meaning, closer to 3 months than 6. My own gut feeling is a late August/early September release. After reading this post, I am starting to think it might drop sooner than I expect. If I remember correctly, for Cata they didn't announce a release date until 4-6 weeks before launch.

It's largely that ICC was endgame for over an entire year. That sucked. And yet, Dragon Soul is worse than ICC. So people are REALLY dreading it this time :)
Honestly though -- Mists promises some great stuff, and I really can't wait to get over this Cata-hangover feeling I have now. Account-Wide pets and achievs in addition to being able to start Soloing WoTLK raid achievs will be a ton of fun :)
Snuzzle Mar 16th 2012 10:49AM
With Squish, do you really think you'll be able to solo those achieves? Id get solo stuff out of the way in Cata before Squish imho.
Bapo Mar 15th 2012 9:49PM
Idk, info on mists is one thing, but its definately not something that will tide me over / bring me back before it comes out.
Releasing raid finder versions of the cata raids would be a nice way to pass the time I think. I never did those before (release raids and firelands anyways), and to try and join a normal group becomes a "must have heroic ds gear, some sort of achievement in there, and know all fights". One can try and read up on the fight, but it doesn't do a bit of good when people use different strategies.
Oh well, I will get my t11 pally gear someday (probably in mists, as my trend usually goes)
Also, hurray on D3 release date :D
Atypical Lemur Mar 15th 2012 10:05PM
This! I think it is safe to say in spite of the loot drama raid finder has been a success. RF Firelands etc would give bunches of "new to them" content. With overhearing such as it is maybe not even have to nerf the content, just extend the RF to include them.
Brian! Mar 15th 2012 11:44PM
I think this is going to be a fall release myself. August/September.
I also disagree that there is a lot to do once you have collected all your heroic gear. I suppose you could run some ALTs. My progression team is slowly mastering each heroic boss and soon there will be nothing in the game for me to really earn other than gold and really RNG based items, like the alchemy/archeology drake. Or darkmoon items. But I view those as painful grinds.
But then, you can get a free copy of Diablo III while you wait. And although Diablo III beta isn't mindblowingly cool, it is still fun enough to keep people in the Blizzard family I think.
Jebediah54 Mar 16th 2012 12:13AM
There wasn't anything mentioned about there being a lot to do raid-wise once Mists has been announced. In fact, "There are still a lot of things to do and be done in the game currently beyond Raid content."
People tend to feel the need to do stuff they didn't do while it's still somewhat relevant. I'm sure the last couple of weeks of Cata will have a lot of old-tier raids, people grinding rep, doing dailies, and other stuff that they won't feel like doing/won't be able to do next expansion. It's like if you find out you're dying, suddenly you find stuff to do that you didn't think of or didn't care to do before.
Lizenz Mar 16th 2012 12:51AM
Achievements, old world quests, PvP gear, level fishing/archaeology/cooking/first aid, maybe try a new profession, old raids/dungeons for transmog gear, the list goes on.
There really is PLENTY to do at all times in World of Warcraft, just gotta look :)
Andras Mar 16th 2012 12:13AM
I have a feeling, come March 19, I will be very disappointed with MoP and Blizzard in general. Cataclysm, I'm sure, is bigger that what MoP will ever be. Just some quick facts (taken from wow website):
Cataclysm:
1.Two New Playable Races (goblin, worgen)
2.Level Cap Increased to 85
3.Classic Zones Remade 1-60 (incredible accomplishment even by blizz standards)
4.New High-Level Zones 80-85 (cant really count 80)
5.More Raid Content than Ever Before BoT, BWD, Tot4W, Tol Barad (when cata released)
6.New Dungeons: 7 dungeons at release date
7.New Profession Archaeology
8.Flying Mounts in Azeroth (big change for those who played the game back then)
9.New PvP Zone & Rated Battlegrounds (tol barad)
10.Guild Achievements
11.New races/class combinations
Mist of Pandaria:
1.New race: Pandas...
2.New class:Monks
3.Talent Calculator changes (blizz does this every expansion. cant count it)
4.Pet Battles (Pokeman)
5.New zone 86-90 (Pandaria is a small island that no one knows where it is)
**leveling 4 levels takes 12 hours (considering how long it took me to lvl 84-85 x4)
I can see that by the 2nd day there will be a big handful of 90's standing around somewhere wanting their money back.
If you look at what I just listed you'll see that blizzard almost cut it's gaming production by more than. Do I hate MoP? No. What I'm saying is that if this is what blizz intends to sell coming March 19, it will lose subscribers faster than ever before.
Jebediah54 Mar 16th 2012 12:20AM
To add to that list (and I may be forgetting something):
6. New PvE scenarios
7. New Challenge Modes
The press release isn't all about more information on stuff we already know about. I'm sure we'll learn of features that weren't announced at Blizzcon. Blizzcon was the first announcement of Mists, and with all the Diablo III and SCII:HotS news, Blizzard couldn't give every bit of information on Mists.
That post just sounds like yet another "WoW is dying" post.
Ace Mar 16th 2012 12:32AM
"5.New zone 86-90 (Pandaria is a small island that no one knows where it is)"
From the way I understood it, while there may be relatively few zones, those zones are friggin BIG! I don't think Pandaria is going to be a "small island"
Noyou Mar 16th 2012 12:38AM
@Andras
I can see you have not been following any of the news for Mists at all. They already said it will be almost as much content as LK as far as leveling goes. The starter zone will be bigger than Twilight highland. I am not a raider but I thought that cata had the least amount of raid bosses in any expac.
Last time I checked new class+ a new race is far greater than 2 new races. Not to mention we don't know what is going to be ready for release or not. Plus we will have LFR from the start- which is huge.
