Actually, the prospecting yields are slightly higher on elementium and obsidium than they were with saronite. We also have fewer useless greens, and needing 2 gems for most of the jewelry is balanced out by the much higher disenchanting results. Being able to transmute green gems tips the numbers even more, and the AH fees are lower on Cata gems, too. (And let's not get started on 9g vendor price gems...)
