Blizzard further explains the new Scroll of Resurrection

These new clarifications make sure that players understand the rules of the promotion and that this is a limited time deal. Blizzard will be letting everyone know with ample time before the promotion ends, but if you're interested in the mount, it might behoove you to get your Scroll of Resurrection out of the way early. What that says to me is a potential for rotating rewards for the Scroll of Resurrection. Multiple rewards or a new reward each year is a great way to get players to do their own grassroots advertising to get old players back into the game to sate their collector compulsions.
Hit the jump for the full list of clarifications.
We recently re-launched the World of Warcraft Scroll of Resurrection with new mounts, instant character boosts to level 80, free upgrades to Cataclysm for players who don't own all the expansions, and much more. Today, we'd like to take a look at some of the finer points of this powerful new way to reconnect with your friends in Azeroth.
First steps
If your friend hasn't played since December 2009 (or earlier), he or she will first need to upgrade to a free Battle.net account before you can send a Scroll. Just have your friend log in to Battle.net and follow the instructions to merge a World of Warcraft account to a free Battle.net account. Returning players may want to add an authenticator to their Battle.net accounts while they're at it. Attaching an authenticator isn't required for the Scroll of Resurrection promotion, but it's always a good idea.
Eligibility
To be eligible to receive a Scroll, your friend must have previously subscribed to World of Warcraft for at least 30 days, and your friend's account must have been inactive since March 4, 2012 or earlier. You can send a maximum of two Scrolls of Resurrection per day (one from within game, and one from within Battle.net), so choose your recipients carefully. Aside from this daily limit, there is no limit to the total number of Scrolls you can send, but all Scroll invitations expire if not claimed within 30 days.
The Scroll of Resurrection is for previous World of Warcraft subscribers. If you're looking to recruit someone who has never played before, check out our Recruit a Friend program.
A little patience at first
Scrolls of Resurrection are sent out once a day in large batches, so it can take some time for your friend to receive it. Be patient!
How the rewards work
The Scroll of Resurrection provides your returning friends with an upgrade to World of Warcraft: Cataclysm, a single character immediately boosted all the way to level 80, and seven days of free play time. Your friend also gains access to a free realm/faction transfer so the two of you can play together.
As a reward for inviting your friend back to the game, we are offering a free Spectral Gryphon for Alliance characters or a Spectral Wind Rider for Horde characters, which you'll receive once your resurrected friend purchases at least 30 days of game time. You'll find your beautifully translucent reward mount(s) waiting for you in the Battle.net Account Management site, under "Referrals & Rewards -- History/Status."
Get 'em while they're hot
The Scroll of Resurrection is a limited promotion. We'll let you know well in advance of its expiration, but don't wait to take advantage of this opportunity. Click here to start sending Scrolls of Resurrection and bring your friends back to Azeroth!

And by well in advance, they mean within one week.
Arrohon Mar 16th 2012 7:16PM
One thing that they have once again failed to mention is that the rewards are completely limited to one character. You don't get both a lvl 80 and the transfer... unless it's the same character. You can't transfer one and boost another. This means that if you move a lvl 85, then you won't get any character boosted.
Noyou Mar 16th 2012 7:44PM
No. That's exactly the way I read it. The toon you accept the scroll on gets the benefits, not the account. The point is to get the toon who gets to 80 to hook up with your long lost buddy, not to shower your returning account with new stuff.

I've been a subscriber since 2006, and I have yet to receive any free perks. I have paid about $1000 in subscription fees.
My friend who played for a couple of months in 2006 & a couple of months in 2008, has paid about $60 of subscription fees.
Blizzard, YOU ARE DOING IT WRONG. Don't be like the cable company. If you are going to give inactive members perks for coming back, do something for your loyal subscribers. It doesn't have to be expensive, maybe a pet, mount, or other collectable item. But don't ignore us, that's simply bad business.
btsfstr Mar 16th 2012 7:32PM
Because Tyrael's Charger and MOP Beta and free Diablo for being loyal to Blizzard for a year is just totally ignoring us.....
McGintoy Mar 16th 2012 7:49PM
Jon has earned the achievement [There, are you happy now?]!
You have earned the title "Jon the Appeased".
This will be a Feat of Strength granted to everyone who has an active account as of..........NOW! Thank you for your loyalty! :)

@ btsfstr
Guess what: the ONLY requirement for signing up for the Annual Pass is that you were registered with a full WoW account before October 18, 2011. You could have been a subscriber since launch in 2005, or you could have just bought all of WoW and started playing on October 17, either way, you can sign up for Annual Pass. MoP Beta and Diablo 3 are rewards for FUTURE loyalty, not for past loyalty.
And even then, that only recognizes 12 months of loyalty. What about people that have subscribed for over 7 years?
Tfish92 Mar 16th 2012 8:50PM
@btsfstr
Those aren't presents for being loyal subscribers, those are perks to saying you won't unsubscribe for an entire year. That has nothing to do with saying thank you for you previous years of subscription.

I understand your viewpoint, and to an extent I agree that it'd be nice to get a little something extra for playing the game since release. But as for me, who has paid for this game since release, what I've gotten is... access to this game since release. I got to help with the AQ war effort. I participated with the Isle of Quel'Danas. I was there (and zombified) during the great Scourge invasion. I helped Brann Bronzebeard unlock the secrets of Ulduar. I jousted in the Argent Tournament. Weekly my pathetic magic would betraaaaAAAaaaay me. I saw Thrall step down as Warchief, and the cataclysm rock the world. I was there when that all happened, along with countless other things, and that's what I get to keep that some johnny-come-latey will never have.
Then again, a boa pet would be cool too.
Sahara Mar 17th 2012 1:19AM
Didn't you get the Onyxia minipet simply for logging into the game on the 5th anniversary? Which we only got because we had active subscriptions, unlike my friends who were in-and-out. Sure, there's not a new minipet every year, last year was a scroll that gave an xp boost to leveling. Just saying, I think that there are small tokens out there, they're just given on WoW's anniversary and not your anniversary of being subscribed.
Infinite Duck Mar 17th 2012 9:55AM
Small tokens indeed, for a company that made 4.2 billion(2 billion profit) according to the stock info.
Narayana Mar 17th 2012 9:57AM
Honestly- you're doing it wrong if you're playing this game for the past 6 years and asking "what's in it for me?"
What's in it for you is the fact that you have had uninterrupted access to the game for that time. You've had the ability to see all the content while it was relevant (if you chose to), you had access to every pet/event/holiday that's happened in that time (some of which are gone forever).
The free level 80 for SoR is intended to be a gift to BOTH the referrer and referred. Sure, he gets a level 80 for nothing, but you get a buddy who's much closer to being able to play with you than a guy whose toon hasn't been touched since TBC.

I can't stress this enough.. If you question it, they will reply. I dont know why people are misunderstanding this....

Oh, poot. Some friends and I were already planning to do some scroll shuffling, since a few of us are planning on unsubbing for a bit pre-MoP, but...guess not.

Damn, I thought I was immune to the fail that is this comment system. That was supposed to be a reply to Jon. Re-posted in the correct spot. Do what you will with this one...
mihnevychj95 Mar 16th 2012 8:20PM
Why did they change it to March 4th from 5th to be eligible for the scroll?
My account expired on the 5th and I was planning to get a scroll from a friend next week. I guess it wont work out anymore?
mihnevychj95 Mar 16th 2012 8:29PM
Wish I could delete or at least edit this.. I feel stupid right now

I show a shiney new mount in my rewards tab, but it says it has not be earned yet. I know that my friend setup a recuring monthly payment so not sure that a qualifies for 30 days at this time. Any help with this?
