Winter Squid unavailable on March 19 when Summer Bass season begins

El's Extreme Anglin', long held as the source for all WoW fishing-related information out there, has a wonderful guide for helping you catch the Winter Squid. If you're not a fisherman, you can easily get your skill up to Winter Squid level by fishing in the same place and using some of El's guides to power through that skill. Nonetheless, don't miss out on this fish or you'll be waiting until September.

I am only missing the Summer Bass for my Oceanograher achievement.

I thought that this achivement was changed so that it could be completed if one caught a winter squid OR a summer bass. I haven't tested it myself, however.

Yeah, I actually did this for the same reason last year... ended up getting bored during the summer and duly finishing The Oceanographer so I was glad I did.

in vanilla I had a bank alt named squidvicioud his bags and bank were filled with winter squid. Waiting to sell during bass season, since the squid was the only agility food at the time.

Swamp of Sorrows is a great place to fish up winter squid. I just got mine on my 9th cast.

Maybe don't link to outdated information next time. The link you posted led to pre-Cata information that just said fish in the Bay of Storms in Azshara, whereas the updated info on El's site in the fish finder (http://www.elsanglin.com/fish/winter_squid.html) mentioned that it's specifically the coastal area at the Ruins of Akkoran. I moved there after not getting the squid after 50 casts at a random spot in the Bay of Storms and got it on my third cast; would have been nice to have done that in the first place.
I will take some of the blame in that I missed the warning at the top of the page saying it was pre-Cata research until I took a closer look, but I missed it because I scrolled down to find the location in which to catch the squid, trusting that a WoW Insider link would lead me to the correct information.

in order to find Winter Squid, for The Oceanographer.
It took only 7 casts!
