The Queue: Whoa, it's Saturday!
Welcome back to The Queue, the daily Q&A column in which the WoW Insider team answers your questions about the World of Warcraft. Mathew McCurley (@gomatgo) will be your host today.
Because with Saturday comes Saturnight ...
Twowolves asked:
Isn't there anything cool Blizz could do with Deadwind Pass? Sure, it's a small zone but it's strategically located and a few quest hubs wouldn't hurt.
I kind of like Deadwind Pass as this spooky place that just ... exists. Maybe every zone doesn't need content -- it can just be there to look cool. That actually kind of reminds me of the old MMO days, where stuff was just there because it was part of the world. Not everything had a purpose unless you made it have a purpose. I kind of like that.
Do what I do: Deadwind Pass is the zone that Karazhan is in. That's what it's there for.
RGSmith asked:
New screenshot of the day is up. Has a forsaken in new mists gear but old model. :/
If you think that Blizzard would miss the opportunity for a big reveal about character models by slipping it into a screenshot of the day, you are not thinking about how big of a selling point this is. Since we still don't know what information was gleaned from the press conference, we have no idea what to expect, but you can sure bet that new character models wouldn't be rolled out in a screenshot of the day feature under the radar.
metalspawned asked:
QftQ: Why is the WoWInsider Show limited to an hour-ish? The hosts SEEM to have fun, and the listeners do! Keep it going! :-)
There are a variety of reasons. The biggest reason I would say is that for every one minute of show you listen to, that's one minute we record, and there are only so many hours in the day. Also, being able to keep yourself restricted to a time period usually focuses the discussion and keeps us on point, but that rarely happens anyway. When we can go over, we do.
Caylynn asked:
if you could have anything from the Blizzard store, what would you choose?
I know that I'm going to be ordering a Garrosh figure for my new desk soon. That's what I'm choosing. Also, any of the big music collections. Blizzard music is so fantastic.
Conversely, my favorite gift to give people from the Blizzard store is the Moonkin Hatchling. No one doesn't like to dance with their new pet and watch him get down.
Shrikesnest asked:
Weird gearing question here. Why is haste so useless for warriors and ret pallies, while hit is so important? Both of them serve the same purpose: increasing the number of attacks you land in a given timeframe, thereby increasing resource generation. Even weirder is that arms warrior mastery also serves a similar purpose, and yet even mastery beats haste out. What gives?
This question is answered a bit more detailed in the comments, but the general gist of it is that haste isn't useless, but it is less effective than hit by the numbers. Warriors like to swing more, sure -- but if those swings aren't hitting, you're not generating rage, and that's what the numbers reflect.
Molly asked:
With resistances going by the wayside in MoP, what do you think Blizzard will do with vanilla-level crafted items that only have resistance stats? Some of those items (Brightcloth Robe from tailoring and the Volcanic set from leatherworking, for example) are great transmog pieces, but I'm worried they'll go the way of the dodo as a result of those stats being removed from gear. I'm hoping Blizz will keep them in the game for transmog's sake, but they're not exactly needed for leveling the professions so I'm worried Blizz will cut them.
Most likely, these pieces of gear will keep their armor values, which will make them able to be used in transmogrification. Blizzard will most likely make an exception with regards to those items or figure out a way to make them work with the new system. Maybe those items might get some stats instead.

I just want this weekend to end, so Monday gets here quicker. And I can't believe I'd ever say that :(
ravyncat Mar 17th 2012 3:53PM
I am looking forward to getting up early Monday morning!
I get up at 3am anyway, but the info comes out at 2am my time and I will be getting up early to start reading it!
The first time I can ever say I was looking forward to Monday morning on my crap work schedule. XD

Never before have I been so excited (or excited at all) for a Monday.

Is... Is it too early to start the F5 spam?

I'm just hoping that the removal of Spell Resistances doesn't affect tank trinkets too heavily. Items like mirror of Broken images are still really, really good, regardless of what Blizzard thinks of Spell resist as a whole. Maybe turn them into "Reduce magic damage taken by 30%" trinkets".
karatesmashunhurt Mar 17th 2012 12:52PM
It's not so much resistance as a whole which is uninteresting, more than having lots of different types of resistance is (currently) uninteresting. The fights where you had to grind a ton of fire resist gear which you would use for that specific fight, and no other fight sounds so much like a chore and not fun or interesting.
I really hope that they do something like change resistance into % magic damage reduction.
Revynn Mar 17th 2012 1:27PM
I just had a thought (shocking, I know). Spell resist going away likely means that The Hundred Club will become a Feat of Strength.

@karate
Speaking from experience, it was.
@Revynn
I doubt they will be removing the ability for a tank to reduce magic damage on cooldown, but items like the mirror will probably go there are very few resist items these days anyway.
Minstrel Mar 17th 2012 12:11PM
When they removed ArPen, they replaced it on old pieces (with haste, as I recall). My guess is they'll do another search-and-replace on resistances with some secondary stats.
Nathanyel Mar 17th 2012 1:49PM
Almost correct, ArP got converted to Crit, unless the item already had Crit, then it turned into Haste :)
Minstrel Mar 17th 2012 2:02PM
Fair enough, thanks for the correction. I just remembered my hunter's Needle-Encrusted Scorpion granting haste instead of armor pen...but that's clearly because it already had crit.

Q for the Q-
I'm taking a college class w/ a heavy MS Excel focus. Wanted to do some character spreadsheets for things like achievements and prof stats. Is there an add-on or a way to export info from the armory into a format (.csv file) that can be imported into Excel?
Thanks-
Sir Broose Mar 17th 2012 2:49PM
I can't answer your question directly, but I can tell you that over on Elitest Jerks (.com), you can download a spec-maximizing spread sheet, and you have the choice of either plugging in the information yourself or pointing it to your character in the armory and letting it gather your gear/talents/gems/enchants/glyphs info for you. I would think that means the answer to your question is "yes" and the how-to might be answered if you grabbed one of those and investigated it.
Here, for example, is the link to the fury warrior spreadsheet:

I have been wondering regarding recording audio and or video podcasts, what programs are needed to do them, besides Skype and GotoMeeting?
I know for example, you Mat McCurley, you use Skype, a headset with a mic and GotoMeeting when you do the Weekly update on Fridays. Then there's the crazy setup that GamebreakerTV uses in California, though they have a studio.

I suggest Audacity for good multi-track audio editing (for the price, FREE). Audio and video shows that are recorded then uploaded, without some edits first, can be a challenge to enjoy. Especially if 5 minutes are devoted to "Can you hear me?" and other setup fluff that needs to be edited out, or relegated to a B-reel later. Perhaps look in to Talkshoe for live streaming and hosting, or a simple Wordpress site where you can list your recordings and information about them. I suggest you get started with free tools first, to make sure you enjoy the process, before spending cash on stuff you might end up uninstalling 2 months later.

When will Blizzard fix the Shield Enchant - Intellect III enchant scroll to the same item format as every other enchant scroll? This one is like a brown cow. It doesn't fit in my enchanting bag with the rest, and the wording is different (it should read Enchant Shield - Intellect.)
Also, how come crafting 22 slot bags takes a couple of seconds, while 16 slot bags still take like 20 seconds each to make?
