Mists of Pandaria: Achievements preview
Our friends over at Wowheadnews have a whole slew of new dungeon achievements for you to look over. Some of these are really interesting, such as Soul Saver, which makes me wonder what exactly is meant by defeat. It's also interesting to find out that most of the titles earned via achievements will be account-wide. I wonder if that will work retroactively? I have a few titles I'd love on my alts.
Here's some of the achievements that caught my eye.
Here's some of the achievements that caught my eye.
- Soul Savior Defeat Lillian Voss without allowing Lilllan's Soul to reach 24% health in Scholomance on heroic difficulty.
- Mosh Pit Get a combination of eight players and Scarlet Defenders caught up in Armsmaster Harlan's Blades of Light on heroic difficulty.
- Rattle No More Defeat Rattlegore without allowing him to gain more than five stacks of Rusting in Scholomance on heroic difficulty.
- Hate Leads to Suffering Defeat Taran Zhu while every party member is at maximum hatred in Shado-pan Monastery in heroic difficulty.

I hope we actual redeem Lillian Voss and save her--though maybe letting her actually die would be the biggest relief and comfort to her.
She was my favorite part of Horde questing. I will be a little sad if her story just ends in a 5man.

Blizz has a recent history of being unkind to forsaken/undead types when it comes to redemption.
No redemption for the following that were turned into an undead state:
Arthas, Kel'Thuzad, Anub'arak, the blood princes, Putress, Sindragosa, Sapphiron, Onyxia, Ner'zhul, Kael'Thas (he's undead in MgT).
Redemption tends to be saved for the living. The 4 keepers of ulduar, Maiev, Liadrin, to name a few.

Re: Maiev, Wolfheart was...less than kind to her depiction, is all I'm gonna say.

Kael wasn't classified as undead in MgT. I always thought the point was more that he was supposed to be deteriorating into a Wretched at that point, not that he was undead. The overall look was leaning in that direction, and the whole "shoving crystals of power into yourself to feed your addiction" was very much along the lines of the Wretched storylines in the Belf starter area, and his fall fits the themes of the expansion far better as a Wretched than as an Undead.
Not that it's terribly important, I guess, and there's nothing really saying for certain, but just wanted to mention it.

Kael'thas was found and healed by Priestess Delrissa after Tempest Keep (there was dialogue about it from the blood elf enemies during the earlier stages of IQD progress), so he definitely wasn't undead.
They never technically explained why he looked so deteriorated, but the obvious assumption was that he'd become a Wretched, using burning crystals to sate his addiction and fuel his magic.

WTF BLIZZ? Lillian Voss is one of the most interesting new characters Blizz has introduced, and this is her fate, a dungeon punching bag? What a freakin' waste of potential.
I hope there's more to this than a simple death since another post I read identified her a potential 'good' guy in Scholo.
We shall see, but man, right now, I'm bummed.

I would hazard a guess that she is simultaneously a good guy and a boss. Hence the achievement. Soul vs undead body?

The fact that her "soul" is a separate NPC makes me thing of Akama in Black Temple
It even said in the dungeon preview that she was being taunted by the lord of Scholomance, which does not sound like something that he would do to one of his minions
It seems likely that she has been captured and forced to fight you, rather than signing up of her own accord, and will then help you out once you complete the encounter. I'd imagine that her "soul" is some kind of NPC that takes damage as the fight goes on and its death constitutes a loss

Remember, we also fought Kalecgos in Sunwell. Things turned out pretty well for him.

It's stated elsewhere that you find Lilian Voss fighting Darkmaster Gandling. I'm betting he dominates her, and then has her fight the players.

Also, pay attention that the achievement says "defeat", not "kill" :)
Thiron Mar 19th 2012 10:01AM
Defeat, not kill. Remeber Ulduar?
Nobar Mar 19th 2012 10:10AM
Suggestion for Blizzard: [Fear Leads to Anger], [Anger Leads to Hate] added (doesn't matter where).
New Feat: [Path of Darkness]: Acquire (those three) achievements, with some extra text saying: "You've heard this phrase before...somewhere..."

One of the achievements that I thought was the most interesting/fun was the "visit all 10,000 waterfalls in MoP" one. 10,000 waterfalls? Sign me up =D.
Jose Mar 19th 2012 11:38AM
I bet is sort of a subzone called 10.000 waterfalls.
Pyromelter Mar 19th 2012 3:34PM
One of the few things I enjoyed in my time playing Rift last year was that each zone had an achievement, where you jumped from some really high place into water. Each spot had it's own nifty achievement. For example one is called "Are you nuts?" in that zone there is a huge forest a ton of trees.
It would be neat to see something like that in wow

This, on the other hand, looks fantabulous!

I feel a deep inner conflict about SM (I haven't done a "Kill Scarlets" quest since ... jeez 2005?)
But my guilt would be assuaged if I should manage to pick up oh ... a nice officer's tabard or a bishop's mitre in my loot ... (hint hint blizz)
Raiyuki Mar 19th 2012 1:41PM
You didn't do any of the Scarlet Onslaught quest in Northrend?
RetPallyJil Mar 19th 2012 1:54PM
Nope! If you're gonna talk the talk you gotta walk the walk. I had to go grind some random mobs to make up the xp but I did it!
