Mists of Pandaria: Female pandaren

We got a good look at the female pandaren model at the press event, and I have to say I'm really just super pleased with it. Unfortunately, we only have the one screenshot, but I'll go into some detail here as to what worked so well with them.
First, before you jump to conclusions based on the image provided, let me tell you about female pandaren customization.

At the press event, only one face option was available, but reps told me that they would have lots of variation in their faces, just like the males. Players can choose from a large variety (at least two dozen, if I recall correctly) of marking patterns on their faces and bodies, ranging from classic panda spots to ones that look like diagonal scars to just one eye being covered.
The hairstyles are similarly varied, with a lot of short haircuts and Asian-inspired dos. Expect Chun-Li buns, chopsticks in your hair, Ibuki bangs, and more when you load up the character creation screen.
In motion, the model looks great. They're animated just as well as their male counterparts -- that is to say, really well. There's so much expression in their faces when they interact with quest givers, get into combat, emote and more. They're downright Disney in the amount of expression you get while running out in the world. (No, their /dance wasn't hooked up yet.)
If it seems like I'm giving Blizzard lip service here, well, I'm honestly just very happy with this model, especially after female worgen. It looks and plays great and has a lot of customization options, including one the male model just doesn't get at all. Look forward to playing one in the beta!
It's open warfare between Alliance and Horde in Mists of Pandaria, World of Warcraft's next expansion. Jump into five new levels with new talents and class mechanics, try the new monk class, and create a pandaren character to ally with either Horde or Alliance. Nice! I'm pleased.

First Impression: she looks like a raccoon :(
Shinae Mar 19th 2012 3:06AM
Actually, she looks like a cross between a giant panda and a red panda.
I love it!!! I can't wait to roll (and roll, roll, roll) one!

Or a red panda
Possum Mar 19th 2012 3:14AM
That is the 'Red Panda' version maybe a little but the black and white concept art definitely looks like a panda.

Need to see her in action. Body type looks very similar to female dwarf; I was hoping for closer to the female Tauren, or maybe a 50/50 tauren/dwarf split. This looks like a 90/10 dwarf/tauren combo. Maybe if they just made her a wee bit taller and stretched?
Definitely much better than the female worgen though

The one from the header pic looks better. I jumped to the cut right away and missed it. Looks better on the Blizzard site - No offense Wowinsider! Just seeing her move I guess. A perma grin is better than a perma snarl. Just looks too feline in the face and nose. Probably being overly critical at first blush.

Red Pandas are related to Racoons in real life!
Khristalyn Mar 19th 2012 6:37AM
Does the red panda scream bear to anyone else more than panda? I'm talkin "Heeyy Yooogi!" That was my first impression, and a tail... kinda..kinda confirms it, even though the tail I'm sure is differen than a bear tail.
Luotian Mar 19th 2012 8:18AM
@Khristalyn: I take it you've never seen a red panda. They have long, bushy, almost fox-like tails.
Aranyszin Mar 19th 2012 10:55AM
Considering that racoons and pandas share so many characteristics that they were long thought to be offshoots of the same species, that isn't as unusual as you seem to suggest.
Bynde Mar 19th 2012 11:26AM
The only thing 'raccoonish' about it is the eyes. Raccoons certainly do not have 'bear-like' snouts like that. Raccoon's snouts are more pointy. Like an opossum.

It'd be nice if they put a raccoon tail on her instead of the current RED FOX tail that the current model has. Seriously Blizz, have a reference photo when making skins for models. Red pandas have red-orange and peach alternating rings on their tails, like a raccoon. Why the fox tail? http://wow.joystiq.com/photos/female-pandaren-customization/#4911689
I find it weird that people have posted videos and the red panda Wiki page up here and nobody has noticed that it's the wrong tail. lol Please change the tail so that it is the correct color. But, don't change anything else!

SO where's the videos of them in motion? :D
trendecide Mar 19th 2012 3:03AM
They look like fat chippettes... I want one!
Medivhal Mar 19th 2012 3:03AM
That's a raccoon.

I love it. Looks a little too much like the old Vanilla models with the thick wrists, but I'm just so relieved she's not a supermodel and that she's chubby. Just what pandas should be, IMO!
Khanmora Mar 20th 2012 8:04PM
This is currently the only female body type that I might allow to join my female dwarf clan, haha! 9 dwarves, 1 (nelf) druid, and 1 panda... unless dwarf monks are awesomesauce, then the panda will be relegated to an alt server.
