Mists of Pandaria: Female pandaren

We got a good look at the female pandaren model at the press event, and I have to say I'm really just super pleased with it. Unfortunately, we only have the one screenshot, but I'll go into some detail here as to what worked so well with them.
First, before you jump to conclusions based on the image provided, let me tell you about female pandaren customization.

At the press event, only one face option was available, but reps told me that they would have lots of variation in their faces, just like the males. Players can choose from a large variety (at least two dozen, if I recall correctly) of marking patterns on their faces and bodies, ranging from classic panda spots to ones that look like diagonal scars to just one eye being covered.
The hairstyles are similarly varied, with a lot of short haircuts and Asian-inspired dos. Expect Chun-Li buns, chopsticks in your hair, Ibuki bangs, and more when you load up the character creation screen.
In motion, the model looks great. They're animated just as well as their male counterparts -- that is to say, really well. There's so much expression in their faces when they interact with quest givers, get into combat, emote and more. They're downright Disney in the amount of expression you get while running out in the world. (No, their /dance wasn't hooked up yet.)
If it seems like I'm giving Blizzard lip service here, well, I'm honestly just very happy with this model, especially after female worgen. It looks and plays great and has a lot of customization options, including one the male model just doesn't get at all. Look forward to playing one in the beta!

seriously, it's awesome. i was decidedly concerned that we were going to end up with some sort of model-esque figure, and i'm so glad that they've got some curves (kickin ones, at that!)
i was not convinced to roll a panda before this, but now i can't wait to rock a lady panda. not to mention that when i said to my GF, who is not at all a gamer, that there's a red panda version (she loves red pandas) she actually said "i would play this if i could be a red panda".
bring on Mists of Pandaria!

So MANY POLYGONS :D
Ballmung Mar 19th 2012 3:06AM
Now I am pleased with this but one thought crossed my mind: "They're gonna look a bit like Ewoks?" Again, pleased. Just a thought I had.
Bapo Mar 19th 2012 3:20AM
I thought of Chipmunk / Raccoon, but now that you mention it, yeah, I see Ewok.
Also, for whatever reason, I'm reminded of Shrek when I look at it, that and the top image looks like a female dwarf
Noyou Mar 19th 2012 3:24AM
Yeah. The "red" one totally looks like an Ewok.
Skarlette Mar 19th 2012 3:07AM
After the female worgen debacle, I am SO relieved to see an awesome-looking model like this. Now don't make any last minute changes before release and mess it up, Blizz! :p
Love the hairdo ideas, too.
Skarn Mar 19th 2012 3:09AM
They look pretty good. I'm glad they have the black and white options.
Question: How big are they compared to the males? For some odd reason that image makes me think they are dwarf sized, but I hope they are taller.
I have no idea if anyone has already posted this due to comments not updating yet. This is likely due to the normal delay plus SERVER LOADDZZZZ!

PERFECT.
BrentJackson Mar 19th 2012 3:11AM
Red Pandas are a bit raccoon looking... so since she is supposed to be a red panda, she looks great!
BrentJackson Mar 19th 2012 3:14AM
Weird to double post on myself, but the Warcraft Facebook has posted more pictures of the model as a normal colored panda and with multiple hairstyles.
Dementron Mar 19th 2012 3:12AM
Interesting. I think it's a little weird that there's a red panda option, since red pandas are more closely related to raccoons than to giant pandas, but I've seen a lot of people express interest in playing a red-panda based pandaren, so good for them I guess. I'm glad it's optional. Honestly, I might end up taking that option for the tail.
She's pretty cute. I look forward to seeing more customization options and her animations.

To quote Sir Mix Alot...
I like it.
Noyou Mar 19th 2012 3:54AM
Wasn't he the one who said he liked....big butts and he could not lie? I totally agree with that sentiment as it pertains to females :p
Luke Mar 19th 2012 4:08AM
What can I say Noyou? I like a little wiggle in the walk. And yes I think we're on the same page.
Noyou Mar 20th 2012 8:02AM
Her milkshake brings all the boys to the yard!
Luke Mar 20th 2012 8:09PM
I believe you mean Milk Stout!

A little too dwarf (with dem goblin arms) for me, but that's livable.
And I could do without the face being quite so happy-anime-:3-cute-smile, but that could be just that facial option and that's livable as well, so yay.
Much, Much, MUCH better than the Worgen debacle. And so so glad to see they get actual hair, not manes or anything. I miss Worgen Female hair, so glad to see that wasn't repeated (could have seen it going that way on the males... limited bun-type hair + mane or something)

I'm not totally on board yet. I'm glad they aren't emaciated. But why do they all have to have the same goofy face? The eye shapes could be different, as well as the shape of
the jaw. They don't all have to have the same smile. I dunno...

Anyone else being reminded of the CGI Alvin and the Chipmunks movie/torture device by that screenshot?
Overall, it doesn't appear to be a monstrosity, but I would prefer one that looked less cutesy and more fierce. I appreciate it's a hard line to walk, particularly when dealing with anthropomorphic animals. Seems good so far, but I'd really like to see it in motion (and see more customization) before I pass final judgment.
