Mists of Pandaria: Female pandaren

We got a good look at the female pandaren model at the press event, and I have to say I'm really just super pleased with it. Unfortunately, we only have the one screenshot, but I'll go into some detail here as to what worked so well with them.
First, before you jump to conclusions based on the image provided, let me tell you about female pandaren customization.

At the press event, only one face option was available, but reps told me that they would have lots of variation in their faces, just like the males. Players can choose from a large variety (at least two dozen, if I recall correctly) of marking patterns on their faces and bodies, ranging from classic panda spots to ones that look like diagonal scars to just one eye being covered.
The hairstyles are similarly varied, with a lot of short haircuts and Asian-inspired dos. Expect Chun-Li buns, chopsticks in your hair, Ibuki bangs, and more when you load up the character creation screen.
In motion, the model looks great. They're animated just as well as their male counterparts -- that is to say, really well. There's so much expression in their faces when they interact with quest givers, get into combat, emote and more. They're downright Disney in the amount of expression you get while running out in the world. (No, their /dance wasn't hooked up yet.)
If it seems like I'm giving Blizzard lip service here, well, I'm honestly just very happy with this model, especially after female worgen. It looks and plays great and has a lot of customization options, including one the male model just doesn't get at all. Look forward to playing one in the beta!
It's open warfare between Alliance and Horde in Mists of Pandaria, World of Warcraft's next expansion. Jump into five new levels with new talents and class mechanics, try the new monk class, and create a pandaren character to ally with either Horde or Alliance. Better than expected, but still too skinny. It'd be nicer if they worked backward from a panda base rather than forward from the human/dwarf model.

I told myself if they end up looking like red pandas, I'll be rolling one, and sure enough you can make them look like red pandas, so guess I have a race and gender for my upcoming new main, whatever it may be! (Probably Monk)
Fifticon Mar 19th 2012 11:09AM
I'd hit that!

The Red Panda is totally reminding me of Fiona from Shrek. Maybe the hips?
juqueza Mar 19th 2012 11:49AM
SOLD!!!
They are SO CUTE! after the worgen fiasco, these are perfect, I will definitely roll one =D

I feel pretty good about this! I'd still like to see a more "fierce" face, but I think we are safely out of female worgen territory.

can we say Teddy Ruxpin. I dont like her teddy bear face. she looks more bear like than panda like. I know pandas are a bear but look at her mouth compared to the male panda. She needs editing.

LOL! Yes indeed the red pandaren does look like Teddy Ruxpin! Good times...

This explains why the panderans dont have many kids. The panderan males are having a tough time finding their equipment under their gut while the female red panderans have the issue of that tail getting in the way during certain positions. At least the furry fans will be satisfied with something sexy they can play around with just as the males do with the taurens. In the way it almost begs the question. What do you get when you cross a female panderan and a male tauren? At least something a lot better looking that something crossed with a male panderan and a female tauren.

super cute. I approve.

I kind of wish they would have gone for a more "Hoffbrau Haus Matron" kind of look. A bit thicker. I am pleased to see that she doesn't have gigantic breasts.

I love the female pandaren model I think it's cool....
but I just noticed something that made me giggle and reminesce....the female model of the red pandaren in the pic above kinda looks like Conker(ish) from Conker's bad fur day.
and then all I could think about were panda squirrels running around cursing and eating chocolate.
Oni Stardust Mar 20th 2012 4:48AM
I have an uncontrollable desire to hug her.

Looks like a panda version of shreks wife... ugly

I just have one silly question; and that is why does this community get so overly-concerned with how FEMALE models of character races turn out? Also, why is the development of female models always so hyped and/or done last? I have a theory as to what is driving all this animus but I'm curious what others think...
Jyotai Mar 20th 2012 4:42PM
I'd have preferred more round and chubby...
BUT...
I'm still going to be losing a -LOT- of money paying for race changes...
This is awesome. Not perfectly what I wanted, but still really well done.
I guess it makes for a good compromise between where I wanted it, and where the 'all female toons need to look like Calista Flockhart Elves' crowd wanted it.

And I thought the Worgen would be enough for the the Furry-fans at ActiBlizz. Next expansion is going to be isle of the D-cup cat girls.

I'd love to know what's up with this: http://wow.joystiq.com/photos/female-pandaren-customization/#4911689
Ugh, Blizz. Did you research what a "red panda" (ailurus fulgens) was before you decided to color a giant panda like one? Why does it have the tail of a red fox? Red pandas clearly have alternating stripe bands on their tails (like raccoons except peach and red-orange), not a solid color with a white tip. Plus, their arms and legs are black. Wiki: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Red_Panda
Other than that, the model looks fantastic and I look forward to playing one. I love red pandas and hoped they'd be a vanity pet in MoP, and was excited about being one until the awkward tail screenshot.
Rezzelyn Mar 24th 2012 1:41AM
That picture in my previous comment must be old, because here it shows them with the correct tail colors.

I hope all of the red panda skins have had their tails changed to this, because otherwise it would look weird.
