Mists of Pandaria screenshot of the day
With all of the Mists of Pandaria news floating around today, it's easy to forget the joys of pure, simple eye candy. Blizzard has continued to update its Mists of Pandaria screenshot today and throughout the last week.
Today's screenshot shows a statue honoring one of the first pandaren explorers to venture beyond the borders of Pandaria and his riding turtle, which would eventually grow to become the Wandering Isle, the pandaren starting zone.
It's open warfare between Alliance and Horde in Mists of Pandaria, World of Warcraft's next expansion. Jump into five new levels with new talents and class mechanics, try the new monk class, and create a pandaren character to ally with either Horde or Alliance. Look for expansion basics in our Mists FAQ, or dig into our spring press event coverage for more details!

put your other interviews up for us that dont care about lore =/
Imnick Mar 19th 2012 3:53PM
If something is not on the site yet then it is not ready to be put up on the site yet, or it doesn't exist
They have no reason to delay any release of information, they are not doing it to punish you, they are doing it because if there is anything they haven't posted yet then releasing it in its current state would be a bad idea
fearinlight Mar 19th 2012 5:53PM
If you actually read their site, youll see the have another one already up. Im not sure how It can't be ready, as they have more than a few days to get them ready, all other sites have them up as well. Lore is crap to some of us, while gameplay is for everyone
Imnick Mar 19th 2012 6:30PM
If you actually read the post dates, it was posted well after I made my comment.
And it was not posted earlier because it was not in a post-able position yet.
Alex Ziebart Mar 19th 2012 3:47PM
Relax, yo.
Imnick Mar 19th 2012 3:52PM
I have to say, all those spell effects look a bit garish
Bryan Dare Mar 19th 2012 3:57PM
So, Mr. Ziebart, have your feelings toward this expansion changed yet? I am curious.
Alex Ziebart Mar 19th 2012 4:02PM
Well, that depends on what you think my feelings are! I've generally liked the concept all along. I did feel that the pandaren were very silly, and that hasn't changed -- they're still pretty silly. However, the overall tone of the expansion still feels solid and they're adding many things I've long felt necessary, like more content to do outside of dungeons and raids.
I tend to not be an excitable person overall, so I think people often interpret my lack of excitement as dislike/hate. That's not the case. If I won a million dollars tomorrow, I still wouldn't be excited. A million dollars is cool. I'd like a million dollars. I would appreciate receiving it and I'd sure as heck use it. But I'm not the sort of person to leap for joy about it. Does that make sense?
Alex Ziebart Mar 19th 2012 4:05PM
As a further note, "silly" does not necessarily need to be a negative description. Silly is fun, it just needs enough non-silly to counteract it. Mists seems to be achieving that balance so far.
Bryan Dare Mar 19th 2012 4:17PM
Ah, ok. I guess I may have misinterpreted what I heard about your thoughts previously, not that it matters. I'm totally fine with differing opinions and even if you did have a negative outlook on MoP I know your opinion would be respectable. I was just curious. Glad to have that cleared up, thanks!

I dunno, Alex - life on the whole is one big boring string of days broken up by rare tragedies and rare joys.
Cry when it's bad, celebrate when it's good. Plenty of time to be blah when you're dead.
Alex Ziebart Mar 19th 2012 4:38PM
I am what I am and that's the way I like it. : )
RetPallyJil Mar 19th 2012 5:06PM
And that's what makes America great. There's room for everyone ^_^
Possum Mar 20th 2012 8:08AM
I am the same. I find it hard to seem excited about things, although being able to add exclamation marks when typing helps. (!)

I don;t know if this is the right forum to ask, or maybe I should wait until tomorrow's Queue:
Now that Pandaren officially takes the position of Wow's counterpart of East Asian races, what about the night elves? I thought they were supposed to be the east asian version of wow, with their architecture, and a vendor selling kimchi, and them worshiping the moon and lunar new year holidays etc....
Bryan Dare Mar 19th 2012 4:27PM
I think it's ok to spread it around a bit. The nelves also have a lot of Greek influence, I believe. I've always loved night elf culture for the unique combination of those two elements.
greenfuse80 Mar 19th 2012 4:45PM
The Night Elves don't seem to be heavily influenced by any one culture. I think they're more pulled from fantasy than anything (LotR elves). There's Japanese influence in some of their architeture but then some of their other architecture/temples look Greek or Roman inspired.
Tauren, however, are heavily influenced by Native American culture, Pandaren from Chinese culture, Trolls from Carribbean culture, etc. I don't see NE's being as cleanly representative of a human culture/region as other WoW races are.
Pyromelter Mar 19th 2012 5:49PM
The way I've understood it is that Pandaren are Chinese/mainland influenced, Night Elves are Japanese influenced. With a bit of Wiccan (nature-loving druid animal lovers) and Amazonian women (women warriors) thrown in there. So I guess that would be Greek then, as "Amazons" were from Greek mythology.
Possum Mar 20th 2012 8:00AM
Nelves are not Asian, they are a grab bag of a bunch of different influences. And even if they weren't there would be no reason there couldn't be two Asian influenced races.
After all there are two English influenced races (Gilneans and the humans of Stormwind).
Bobby Earl Mar 21st 2012 12:08AM
@Pyro
IIRC, the concept of Amazons was based on specific tribes that were actually discovered IN the Amazon wherein the females were the hunters/warriors and the males mainly pursued agricultural interests. The ancient Greeks, of course, never knew of the existence of this region. I agree, however, that for modern fantasy purposes the archetypal "Amazon" model often exhibits classical Greek attributes.
