Around Azeroth: Turtle power
Submitter Zaazoo of Final Boss on Dark Iron (US-H) sent in a screenshot of this interesting turtle corpse along the shores of the Swamp of Sorrows and suggested that the pagoda attached to its back could be of pandaran origin. Unfortunately for this line of speculation, giant turtle corpses have been all over the game since launch and are particularly prevalent in Darkshore. A night elf quest giver in Auberdine stated that turtle mounts were used by naga as battle carriages and supply transport. And then there's this unit from Warcraft II. It's a nice thought, though!

I farm there a good bit, and could have sworn it did not always have a pagoda on it. Hmmm....

Nope. They always have.
The first time I saw one, I wondered if a living one was anywhere around. I recognized them from WarCraft 2.

Good catch.
and I remember that bit of quest lore about the nagas.
I'm going to have to fly to darkshore to see if the ones there have pagodas on them though as that's the one intriguing part of it.

K I just checked, the ones in Darkshore DO have pagodas on them as well, not all of them, but some of them.
so yup, Nagas.

Yeah, Naga architecture still looks very similar to Night Elf buildings 9thanks to their shared history pre-Sundering), which are also Eastern-influenced.

It's obviously the space craft that the teenage mutant ninja turtles crash landed in.
