Mists of Pandaria beta opt-in and official FAQ

To opt in, you will need a Battle.net account with at least one Blizzard game attached to it -- I'm sure everyone reading this has one of those, right? You can read the full FAQ on Battle.net or behind the cut below.
This FAQ does detail how and when Annual Pass holders will be entering the beta, so those of you who have signed up for that should take a look.
We're very close to beginning beta testing for World of Warcraft®: Mists of Pandaria™! Over the course of the beta test, we'll be inviting Annual Pass holders, press, fansites, friends and family, and opt-in beta testers to participate. As there's no NDA for this test, you're likely to start seeing lots of screenshots and new video around the web. Please keep in mind that the game is still in development, and what you'll see during the beta test is not necessarily representative of the final game.
If you're wondering how you can help us test Mists of Pandaria, or how the test works, look no further than the paragraphs directly below this one.
How do I opt-in?
Once you've set up a Battle.net account and have attached at least one Blizzard game, you can choose to opt in to our beta tests from the Beta Profile page. You'll need to select which franchises you'd be interested in helping test, as well as download and run the System Check tool to attach your computer's specifications to your beta profile. Once that's complete it's simply a matter of waiting for an invite.
How will I know if I'm selected?
We'll send you an email letting you know when you're selected, but please be aware of phishing attempts. Some unscrupulous individuals send out falsified emails purporting to be from Blizzard, but are in fact meant to steal your login credentials. For more information on how to identify these emails please refer to our Battle.net Security site. One easy way to ensure your invite is legit is to avoid clicking on links in any invite emails you receive, and instead log in to your Battle.net account and see if you have a Mists of Pandaria beta license attached. If there's no license, you can be sure the email you received was not from Blizzard.
I am participating in the World of Warcraft Annual Pass promotion; when do I begin testing?
We're inviting Annual Pass holders in waves over the course of the beta test, and will be ramping up the number of invites we send as quickly as possible. We'll be inviting Annual Pass holders based on several factors, including how long your World of Warcraft account has been active and when you signed up for the Annual Pass. Keep an eye on your Battle.net account and email for your invite to join the beta test.
How many players do you plan to invite to the beta test?
Our primary focus will be ensuring that all of the players who signed up for the Annual Pass are invited over the course of the beta test. The number of additional players we invite will be based on our testing needs. If during the course of testing we determine we need more players to participate, we'll invite more.
Is there an NDA?
There is no Non-Disclosure Agreement for the Mists of Pandaria beta test. Those invited to play are free to take screenshots, movies, or stream the game content. Please be aware that the game is very much still a work in progress, and we appreciate your understanding when you encounter bugs, graphical errors, or other issues.
How long will the beta test last?
We have not determined an exact date for the end of the beta test. We'll post a notice when the beta test is nearing completion.

I've been trying to get into a beta ever since before WotLK came out. Didn't get into Wrath, and my computer was glitching on me in Cata and I couldn't run the right program to make me eligible for Cata. Even though I don't have an annual pass, I'm really hoping I get my lucky break this year. It's unlikelier given how many testers they have already guaranteed entry, but...

I reallly wanted in the Wrath Beta, never got it. Got in the Cat beta though - lemme tell you - it kinda ruined it for me. YES the beta was neat. But when I played Cat, it wasn't as fun.
I hope you get what you want though!

Same for me, I didn't get into Wrath beta, but got into Cata beta. It did mess up my experience slightly. I play four different classes. You kind of get tired of running the same zones that many times. And to be a good beta tester, they release a new build, you run those same quests again because they changed something.
And getting picked for beta has a lot to do with your PC specs. Along with a lot of people checking for bugs, they need a wide variety of PC setups. One video card may experience bugs when a different video card doesn't.

I got into the wrath beta and not the cata one, however it was towards the end of the beta so I only had a few weeks to play around with it (I did find two big mac glitches! fun times).
It did spoil me a bit, but not enough to diminish the fun of leveling at all. Honestly, I don't think there was a time in BC or wotlk where I got bored, even after months and months of Snaxxramas, EoE and OS3... unlike cata.
I had a low end mac mini for wotlk beta, and a high end pc for cata.... so I do know for sure they test those with low end computers :D and it doesn't diminish your chances of getting in at all.

I avoid betas.
Either they are complete bugfests and ruin the experience for me, or they are so like the finished product I am bored of it before it comes out.
Betas are like the PTR...."yey new content I can 'test' out".......Conent is released on live servers ...."finished it in a week, there is nothign to do".....
Avoid betas, unless you really really like proper testing, and can live with the reality of burnout quickly.
I HATE massive betas, they are just early access, not proper tests. Players should have to submit proper reports on bugs, performance and such. betas should also be specific areas of the game.
I'd much rather Bliz did a proper, targeted and rigrous beta test, and for once realse content that is not a bugfest. the quality of recent releases has been drastically sub par.

@Sharlatan
I used to think that way, for the reasons you said.
But now I use Beta Tests to deliberately find bugs. There is nothing more satisfying then making the game break. hehe.
For example. When Beta testing FF XI: Online (Japanese Version) there was a bug that would crash the game if you went to one specific in one of the starter zones. Several of us actually hit that spot on accident, but since I like to explore/quest it was fun to find it.
In the American Beta Test, many of us found and reported the AH exploit and found that even though it was reported, it still made it to the live game.
I have never been in a WoW Beta, Mists will by my first. :) I am looking forward to seeing the new zones and what I can break. ;)

I think that A LOT of people are going to learn that being in a beta is often not so great. ...and Blizz is going to learn that big big beta was a bad idea. Between the QQ regarding entry, and there will be much, to the burn out and boredom with new content for anyone playing more than a a couple weeks this is more than likely going to be a disaster.
Here is to hoping I'm wrong.

I was also in the Cata beta, and my experience was like so many others here: It was a cool experience, and I was the envy of my guild, but once Cata finally released to the public, it wasn't special to me and I lost interest in redoing all the stuff I had done (and re-done) for weeks prior in the beta. For that reason, I don't think I'll try to get in the MoP beta.
However, I will say that there was one advantage for me: I got to level a goblin and a worgen, which is something I probably would not have done, otherwise, because all 10 slots on what I consider to be my home server are full. I don't have a toon I want to delete, and although I have a few toons scattered on other servers, I've never enjoyed playing anywhere but my "home" server. It's just not fun without my friends and the support of my main(s). Because they are adding an 11th slot, I'll probably get to do a monk once MoP releases, so I don't really care about being in the beta. (I still think only 1 more slot is pretty lame, though. I would SO use more if they were available.)

I'm usually not a big beta fan and I'm still not sure I'll play this one much. They serve their purpose well, but my time is already limited enough as is, if I'm spending it playing WoW I'd like my time to "stick."
Still...with Mists I should be getting into this one pretty early if the "sign-up dates" heavily influence when you get an invite. I'm curious to run the dungeons while they are still a bit of a mystery. We'll see.
Plus, just having access to a special thing is kinda neat.

This was unexpected! This is great news!
Noyou Mar 21st 2012 1:24AM
Calendar says March, weather feels like June, but this news seems like X-mas :p See you silly heads in Beta :D
Carune Mar 21st 2012 1:40AM
Damn this year has been weird.
evoxpisces Mar 21st 2012 2:00AM
Couldn't have said that better myself!
Nivella Mar 21st 2012 5:23AM
June? You lucky duck. I'm in the northwest, and it feels like late january or november. The hills had snow near me. -.-
Still, I'm excited!

WHEEE! BETA! SO AMAZING!
Randomize Mar 21st 2012 1:28AM
I'm surprised that they didn't announce the start of the beta during the press tour. It seems like that would have helped spice up the otherwise languid press announcement.
SaintStryfe Mar 21st 2012 1:52AM
you call the info dump we got languid?
Revanel Mar 21st 2012 4:05AM
Languid is kind of an odd term for it, but I get his meaning.
Vitos Mar 21st 2012 5:28AM
There weren't really any shockers- most of it was details on things we knew/were pretty sure were coming. We got the female pandaren, a couple more details on the classes, an overview/review of the questing zones and instances, but no amazing shockers like "Another profession" or "another type of transport" (teleportation or somethin? i dunno) or "we're redoing paladin's again". Of course, that last wouldn't be a shock. >.>

Heh. I think the lyricist from Steely Dan reads WoW Insider.
