Mists of Pandaria beta opt-in and official FAQ

To opt in, you will need a Battle.net account with at least one Blizzard game attached to it -- I'm sure everyone reading this has one of those, right? You can read the full FAQ on Battle.net or behind the cut below.
This FAQ does detail how and when Annual Pass holders will be entering the beta, so those of you who have signed up for that should take a look.
Mists of Pandaria Beta Opt-in and FAQ
We're very close to beginning beta testing for World of Warcraft®: Mists of Pandaria™! Over the course of the beta test, we'll be inviting Annual Pass holders, press, fansites, friends and family, and opt-in beta testers to participate. As there's no NDA for this test, you're likely to start seeing lots of screenshots and new video around the web. Please keep in mind that the game is still in development, and what you'll see during the beta test is not necessarily representative of the final game.
If you're wondering how you can help us test Mists of Pandaria, or how the test works, look no further than the paragraphs directly below this one.
How do I opt-in?
Once you've set up a Battle.net account and have attached at least one Blizzard game, you can choose to opt in to our beta tests from the Beta Profile page. You'll need to select which franchises you'd be interested in helping test, as well as download and run the System Check tool to attach your computer's specifications to your beta profile. Once that's complete it's simply a matter of waiting for an invite.
How will I know if I'm selected?
We'll send you an email letting you know when you're selected, but please be aware of phishing attempts. Some unscrupulous individuals send out falsified emails purporting to be from Blizzard, but are in fact meant to steal your login credentials. For more information on how to identify these emails please refer to our Battle.net Security site. One easy way to ensure your invite is legit is to avoid clicking on links in any invite emails you receive, and instead log in to your Battle.net account and see if you have a Mists of Pandaria beta license attached. If there's no license, you can be sure the email you received was not from Blizzard.
I am participating in the World of Warcraft Annual Pass promotion; when do I begin testing?
We're inviting Annual Pass holders in waves over the course of the beta test, and will be ramping up the number of invites we send as quickly as possible. We'll be inviting Annual Pass holders based on several factors, including how long your World of Warcraft account has been active and when you signed up for the Annual Pass. Keep an eye on your Battle.net account and email for your invite to join the beta test.
How many players do you plan to invite to the beta test?
Our primary focus will be ensuring that all of the players who signed up for the Annual Pass are invited over the course of the beta test. The number of additional players we invite will be based on our testing needs. If during the course of testing we determine we need more players to participate, we'll invite more.
Is there an NDA?
There is no Non-Disclosure Agreement for the Mists of Pandaria beta test. Those invited to play are free to take screenshots, movies, or stream the game content. Please be aware that the game is very much still a work in progress, and we appreciate your understanding when you encounter bugs, graphical errors, or other issues.
How long will the beta test last?
We have not determined an exact date for the end of the beta test. We'll post a notice when the beta test is nearing completion.

Well, they're re-doing warlocks.
Sure they wear black and hang out at night, but that doesn't mean they aren't here!
(Blizz is actually implementing glowing vests so we know where to find locks. :)

"We'll be inviting Annual Pass holders based on several factors, including how long your World of Warcraft account has been active"
First sign of veteran rewards possibly?
Xantenise Mar 21st 2012 1:32AM
I really hope so, I've been here since '06!
Scott Mar 21st 2012 1:48AM
I think that is a tip of the hat to all of the outrage over the SoR "quitters get treats, veterans get spit on" bruhaha.
Revanel Mar 21st 2012 4:10AM
Yeah since Oct 06' (the South Park episode) for me. I would love Veteran's Rewards!
On a related note...anyone else join in WoW because of that SP episode as well? Just curious, really.
Before I saw that episode I didn't even know WoW existed. After I watched it, my buddy and I (who were avid fans of the RTS) went out to Walmart and bought ourselves copies. Been playing ever since. :)

My account was created in either really late BC, or really early Wrath (too bad they can't include the time I played on a parent's account). I also signed up for the Annual pass in probably the first week. Hoping that speaks well for my chances...
Deathknighty Mar 21st 2012 6:28AM
Yup, South Park got me playing too.
Atanae Mar 21st 2012 8:27AM
@Revanel - November '06 for me. And yeah, South Park was the final straw that instigated me into downloading the trial. And my subscription has been non-stop since then.
I do want to remind people that "active accounts" means just that. If you signed up in '04 and left your account for dead until last week, IMO, Blizzard is recording that as "active 1 week."
My interpretation: The people who have paid their subscriptions longest, not the people with the oldest accounts.
Kadamon Mar 21st 2012 1:05PM
One hopes. I've been playing since late 05 and all I've ever gotten out of it was a Zhevra and a Spectral Mount.
On the Annual Pass too, so I'm hoping I get into the Beta pretty early.
davbelter Mar 21st 2012 1:39PM
I really hope to get in early for the beta test, I have been playing since day 1 and I signed up to the Pass within hours of it being announced.
Snuzzle Mar 21st 2012 1:50PM
Even though I signed up for the AP on day one and have been playing since Jan 06, I still don't think it's quite, for a lack of better word, "fair" for them to announce first that the AP holders will get in as soon as beta starts, and then turn around and say it'll be in waves when they get overwhelmed with the amount of AP holders.
If they had just made an announcement stating they would be changing it we would understand, but this seems kind of like they're hoping we'll forget the blurb page said this until just a few days ago:
"Q: When do I get Diablo III and the other exclusive benefits?
A: You’ll be able to download and play Diablo III as soon as it’s available and once you complete the one-year term, it’s yours to keep, even if you cancel your subscription. Tyrael’s Charger will be available with Patch 4.3, and beta access will go live with the beta launch."
Revynn Mar 21st 2012 1:30AM
I have to say I was a little skeptical when Alex mentioned in the podcast that he didn't see Beta being more than a month away. Now . . . I'm kinda starting to agree.
Cyno01 Mar 21st 2012 1:35AM
So... beta in april sometime, late summer release? August or september?
Saeadame Mar 21st 2012 2:09AM
I'm hoping for an October release, to go along with a revamped Brewfest (that has more pandas =D).
followthategg Mar 21st 2012 6:45AM
I think the closed public beta usually lasts for about 3-4 months. Cataclysm's was about that long, Then there's a gap of about a month between the ending of the beta phase and the release.
I'm making a broad assumption that we are looking at a release of about late-July to an mid August release.
gutserker Mar 21st 2012 1:54AM
yay I get to test MoP with windows 8 beta and eyefinity :D
on a serious note I would like to hear less "my computer can't handle 25 man raiding with everything set to minimum." improvements to the DX11 coding please blizz?
Revnah Mar 21st 2012 2:19AM
WAHOOOOOOOOOOOOO! :-)))
Spectrose Mar 21st 2012 2:19AM
I really hope Bibi is right, and beta begins either this week or the next... http://www.fluffyfrenchy.com/?p=73
I just hope that being a subscriber since spring of 2005, and signing up for the annual pass on day 1 gets me in within the first few waves of invites. It'll be nice to finally get into a beta, I've not managed to get into any of the previous ones.
Jade Mar 21st 2012 3:11AM
Using your Tardis to sign up in '05, and getting a first annual pass is not ethical use of Time Technology, Doctor.
Possum Mar 21st 2012 3:01AM
So if you are an annual pass holder do you still need to opt in?
