The Queue: The sins of the father

New patches and new expansions are my favorite -- not because of all of the new things to do, but because you guys actually start asking questions for The Queue again. Hooray!
durandal asked:
In one of the interviews, it has been stated that "Garrosh has become corrupted and has been doing some really nasty things beneath Orgrimmar", so both factions want to get rid of him in MoP's final tier.
What do you think? Is this corruption self-influenced and based solely on his character, or are there external powers involved? Like, old gods invading RFC and mindcontrolling him from down there? Or is the Burning Blade at work again?
In our back room office talk here at WoW Insider, I've been betting all along that Garrosh is going to go the route of demon blood again. The entire Horde talks up Grom Hellscream's heroic sacrifice, how he's one of the greatest warriors to have ever lived, that Garrosh should be proud of him ... that whole thing. Yeah, Grom had a glorious, heroic death, but it came after years and years of doing horrible, horrible things under demonic influence -- which he voluntarily accepted.
The sins of the father should not be inflicted upon their sons, but that's exactly what happens when you tell the son that those sins were not sins at all but actually righteous and heroic acts. The son will commit the same sins anew.
Personally, I expect that as soon as the Alliance puts up a real fight and starts backing Garrosh into a corner, Garrosh will do exactly what Grom did -- reach out to the nearest demon lord and slurp up his blood for power. Then, if Thrall steps back in as warchief, maybe he'll put in an effort to find his Horde real heroes to look up to instead of encouraging them to worship monsters like Grom and Kargath. If you don't want your Horde to repeat the mistakes of the past, you can't whitewash those mistakes and call them heroic.
wmbrguild asked:
Did Blizzard even remotely address the realms with dwindling populations or servers that are EXTREMELY unbalanced?
Blizzard hasn't given a specific answer to that question and certainly not at the Mists of Pandaria press event. Personally, I don't think Blizzard can properly address the issue until after Mists of Pandaria has launched and the developers can see where the game's population lands at that point. If it consolidates a bunch of servers right now, launches the expansion, and then finds 2 to 3 million more North American players (new or returning) playing the game ... then what happens? It'll need to reopen the servers it's closed. Six to 12 months after that, who knows where the population will be then? That doesn't help anybody.
When Mists launches, either the problem will fix itself, or it'll give Blizzard a surer image of where the game's population will stay for the foreseeable future.
RogueJedi86 asked:
Here's a question I wondered after reading about the Sha yesterday. The Sha are the physical embodiment of bad emotions like Fear, Hatred, Doubt, etc., and it's implied that the alliance/Horde war on Pandaria fuels them. So wouldn't going into a raid to beat the Sha defeat the point of why they exist? Going in with intent to kill would just make them stronger. So we'd beat the Sha by simply choosing not to kill any of them in the world or in dungeons or raids.
I'm not sure a World of Warcraft in which you win by not playing would be a compelling game. I think the point is, in order to kill these things, we need to overcome our inner demons. These guys can be beaten when you believe that you can do it. If you fear the sha, if you hate them, if you doubt your ability to defeat them, you only make them stronger and it becomes absolutely certain that you cannot beat them.
Other fantasy fiction has established that an intent to kill is not necessarily fueled by emotion. It can be entirely logical -- sever the arm so you don't lose the body, that sort of thing. Look at Star Wars. The Jedi kill all of the time. Their Order doesn't forbid killing; it just forbids feeling strongly about it. Kind of weird, but it is what it is.
@paul asked:
In the new Blizz post a Night in MoP it mentions proving grounds. Got the scoop on these? Can't find anything anywhere, other than the Tolvir Proving Grounds Arena, which doesn't fit.
They weren't mentioned at all in the presentation at last week's press event. I imagine they are exactly what Bashiok described in that post: solo instances with a little lore thrown in. They're probably to help you learn the finer details of your class/PvE in general without bogging other people down with the learning process.

Disregard that, meant to reply to someone.

One thing missing from all the MoP announcements was any information on when the Battle Tag system will be implemented. Any idea if it is scheduled for when D3 is released (since you had to make one to get in the beta), MoP, or when?
Drakkenfyre Mar 22nd 2012 3:47AM
Technically, it's implemented now. You can make one reguardless if you have the Diablo 3 beta or not. Now, whether it becomes active in normal games, it's already been said it will be required at Diablo 3's launch, and ported to other games later.
If you make one now, make it COUNT. It's permanent until they implement a change option, which isn't slated for release until some time after Diablo 3 launches. Hell, it will probably be a paid-service.

I cant wait for Thrall to march in and beat the shit out of Garrosh, finishing the duel they had right before WOTLK.

Dude, that's some heavy thinking right there. And it's appreciated too.

QftQ: From what I understand, Prime glyphs are being removed, correct? What will happen to glyphs in MoP? How many major/minor glyphs will we have and what levels will we get them at? Or are we not sure about any of this yet? Also, am I to assume glyphs that are currently prime glyphs will just turn into major glyphs in MoP?

Question for the community:
I'm looking for a mindless little action game that I can use to kill time in small chunks while I'm waiting for things. My only real limitations are that it has to cost less than twenty dollars, it has to be playable on a PC, and I have to be able to mute it and still enjoy it so that I can listen to music/podcasts/whatever in the background.
Any suggestions? Ideally I'd be able to jump into it quickly and leave easily, and it'd provide decent abnegation.
Pyromelter Mar 21st 2012 9:11PM
Magicka and/or Bastion. Both 10 bucks last time I checked on steam.
Also, I don't understand your use of the word "abnegation." Refusal, denial, repudiation, renouncement... don't seem to work in the sentence you used.
Shrikesnest Mar 22nd 2012 12:45AM
I *do* like Bastion, but it's not exactly what I'm looking for. A little too much ongoing story and not enough "arcade"; plus silencing that sexy narrator would be a crime.
In this context, abnegation refers to the kind of mindless stress relief provided by, say, grinding mobs, or filling bars of various kinds. That's why something like Super Meat Boy wouldn't work; I'm not looking to test my reflexes, but just something relaxing I can grind at while I listen to music.
Appreciate the suggestions!

Hopefully Old Gods aren't involved.

Do you guys think we'll be able to upgrade older tier gear under the new valor system? I'm just saying, some of those set bonuses were preeeetty sweet, and I wouldn't mind having access to them again if I could spend VP to boost them up to contemporary ilevels.

Question for the Queue:
I'd like to preface this by saying I genuinely don't know the answer, and I'm not trolling. What will happen to the various currencies (JP etc) with a new expansion? The same as with a new patch? It all gets exchanged for gold?
Shinae Mar 21st 2012 9:31PM
It'll be the same as any major patch. My hunter that I rarely play still has the 4000 JPs earned during and carried over from Wrath.
Boozard Mar 21st 2012 8:49PM
i know a lot of people don't like garrosh... but he is too interesting a character to just simply turn evil then kill . i really think it's too bad blizz is kicking him out. sure he's flawed. but often, flawed is interesting. i hope they keep him relevant somehow and not turn him into some raid boss to be farmed. blizz could really add a dimension of politics if garrosh somehow remains in orgrimmar and retains significant influence over part of the horde.

OHMIGOD you guys! I have not got my beta invite yet (annual pass) but I am still so excited I am hardly coherent! I am building up my arsenal of pets like CRAZY so I can test out the battling! But maybe I should try and bust my ass for Loremaster before the expansion hits and it gets harder? Or maybe we will get some cool information about account-wide achievements and I can get Kalimdor on my worgen to complement Eastern Kingdoms on my human? Or should I level my herbalist so my FARM can be the MOST USEFUL?????????
I am a fairly new WoW player--definitely a Cata baby--so here is my real question: Are expansions always this exciting??????? (I love punctuation!)
Deathgore Mar 22nd 2012 3:43AM
Oh I'm well aware who the true culprit on this issue is, but Baine was pretty pissed when he found out his father was killed by Garrosh. If he ended up becoming the new Warchief of the Horde, then the Grimtotems and people like Garrosh would have their days numbered.

QftQ:
Any word on a change to how tanking is being handled? There was a dev water cooler about it way back when where Ghostcrawler said that MoP would be the time to do it! Now that MoP is here, have there been changes? Will we see more of an active tanking model?
SeeSaw Mar 22nd 2012 10:33AM
I purchased the annual pass and am torn between eagerly waiting for the beta, and not wanting to "spoil" Mists. Since many of you guys have played in beta, what are your thoughts on entering the beta and potential burnout when it's released live?
Also, if I do enter the beta, how does one be a "good" beta tester, as opposed to those that go in just to see the new content and play the new class? (Not saying there is anything wrong with that).
