While it's not the focus of this article, the lack of money during questing on your first character is a non-issue anymore.
Quest gold rewards were revamped prior to Cataclysm. Where before with quests alone you might be lucky to have 5g by level 20, now you might have 100g by level 20.
Not having to purchase ability ranks anymore also really helps.
Seems really funny compared to when mounts were really expensive, early quest money was pitiful, and you were lucky to even afford your 60% mount.

I remember joining my first guild at like level 10 and saving up for a tabard (costing a whopping 1G). Ah, memories...
