Sorry for a nub question in advance, but how do you know what some item will 'look' like? Are you checking on a site? An addon? Or do you just sort of know? I guess what I'm saying is I'd rather not lug all this gear around to the AH to see what it sells for and not even know what the dang thing looks like...

If you hit control and click on an item, it'll show you a preview of what that item will look like on your character.

You can Ctrl-click items to get an in-game preview pane. There's also the MogIt addon (and I'm sure a couple of others by now) that add an automatic preview upon mouseover, and AtlasLoot lets you look at boss drops/crafteds/rep rewards through the ctrl-click preview as well.As far as tabbing out to a website, Wowhead seems to be -the- go-to site for out-of-game previewing.

Oh wow thanks! Cannot believe I never knew about ctrl-clicking...

The add-on Close-Up is invaluable to me. It lets you undress the model in the Dressing Room window only, so you don't have to remove any of your actual gear. It's great for looking at pieces often covered up, like chest pieces (if you wear tabards), shirts, bracers, etc. Close-Up is very small, lightweight, and simple, and also works as/with the AH preview when looking at items there. At least on mine; I can't recall if the preview window for the AH is standard or part of my Auctionator or Close-Up addons...

The MogIt addon also gives you a tooltip showing the item equipped on your character - easy to look at lots of stuff fast.
