The cover to the upcoming
World of Warcraft novel,
Jaina Proudmoore: Tides of War, has been revealed, thanks to
Scrolls of Lore. Christie Golden, author of
The Shattering and
Thrall: Twilight of the Aspects (among others), wrote Jaina's story this time around. Of note on the cover is Jaina's white hair, which has been said by Blizzard in the past to indicate extreme power or a physical embodiment of the horror of Theramore's destruction. Could we be seeing Jaina flip out and go all white-haired Super Jaina Z? Is her white hair a mark of the trauma of seeing Theramore destroyed?
Jaina Proudmoore: Tides of War is releasing later this year. Check out
Scrolls of Lore for the full cover picture.

This. Some women actually standing up on their own (while not being batshit insane or evil) would be nice. Anytime now Blizzard, anytime.

Cannot upvote enough. I am desperately, desperately hoping that Varian's call to action isn't the death of Jaina, as I've seen speculated in a couple places lately. Don't fridge Jaina, Blizz, let her actually take a principal role in the war.

Even disregarding possible gender bias, I am sick of Wrynn's face and I yearn for some kickassery coming from Jaina and other, non-Wrynn longstanding Alliance characters.

Varian needs to die, and Joanna Blueheart needs to marry Anduin. She can become the new Queen and he can become the new Archbishop.

Duuuude, uber powerful magic-addicted willow was so dope.
I mean she roughs up the Egyptian god of death. That's hardcore man.

Well. This looks....kinda grim. That's an awfully bleak cover art for a Jaina novel. Or any WoW novel really, I mean, look at the last few for comparison. Wolfheart, just Varian looking grumpy. The Shattering, you get the Doomhammer looking firey and cool and stuff, as one does. Twilight of the Aspects was, if I remember correctly, just Thrall with some dragons.
And then this one has Jaina, a character known above all for being reasonable and nice to anyone possibly willing to return the favour, with her face scrunched up in intense pain, hair bleached white from emotional trauma, screaming out bubbles and drowning.
I really hope they don't turn Jaina into a douche. That'd be really sad.

Also, I feel obliged to mention that Jaina's looking uncharacteristically ugly in this picture.
Might just be the drowning though. :P
thebl4ckd0g Mar 23rd 2012 9:43PM
she looks in pain, not ugly.
Deathknighty Mar 23rd 2012 9:49PM
Just the drowning then.
Snuzzle Mar 23rd 2012 11:21PM
@Deathknighty
She looks like Lady Gaga.
There, I said it, it's out there, no take backs.
Nathanyel Mar 24th 2012 6:03AM
Pain gives you an overbite?
Orrine Mar 24th 2012 10:02AM
@Snuzzle
You meant to say "Lady Gaga looks like drowning terrified Jaina Proudmoore"
trefpoid Mar 23rd 2012 9:32PM
I hope she doesn't become like Lady Stoneheart in the GOT books, she's got white hair too now and is now fixed of vengeance. I guess Jaina is finally gonna join the fighting and will kick our Horde butts. I'm scared now :(
Deathknighty Mar 23rd 2012 9:36PM
Yeah, that right there is really what I'm worried about.
I knew there was another character who had that happen to them and kinda bummed me out. Thanks for helping me remember who it was. ;)

Is anyone else having really weird comment things happening? Such as commenting, it showing up, then commenting again and the last comment has disappeared? I didn't think it was possible for the Wow Insider comment system to get worse but I guess was wrong.
Books I would read:
Something featuring Vol'jin or the Darkspear
Something featuring Dwarves
" " Gnomes
" " Tauren
" " Forsaken.
Things I don't want any more of.
Humans or god damn Night Elves.
Killik Mar 24th 2012 5:59AM
My assumption is that some marketing guy somewhere thinks that Humans and 'good guy' Elves have a more mass-market appeal than anything else. With unfortunate consequences for the in-game storytelling.

Marketing is an abscess on the devil's arse.
