The Queue: Beta questions make good Queue questions

Welcome back to The Queue, the daily Q&A column in which the WoW Insider team answers your questions about the World of Warcraft. Mathew McCurley (@gomatgo) will be your host today.
We had a lot of fun last night streaming the entire pandaren starting experience. Matthew Rossi, Anne Stickney, Alex Ziebart, and myself hopped on Mumble, fired up the live stream, and spent a few hours rampaging across the Wandering Isle. Witness all the wonder and spectacle of this special band of adventurers, with special guest "I'm Going to do Quests Whatever" Mike Sacco. See lots of pandaren emotes and animations, watch Alex actually having a fun time in WoW, and hear me say something funny with Rossi on occasion. Anne won't stop rolling. I think you'll have fun.
In the meantime, I'll do my best to answer as many questions about the practical, boots-on-the-ground beta as we have it now. It feels as if this first initial push is intended to be a systems test.
Revynn asked:
Are you locked to certain levels and zones like you were in the Cata beta or are people already trekking to 90?
The only content currently available for testing at this moment is 1-to-10 on the Wandering Isle and an incomplete (not too incomplete, however) 1-to-85 monk experience. Pandaria is not available yet, although many people have been trying to sneak on to the elusive continent.
I made an orc monk, and the starting experience was the same as the other classes. I did not find a monk trainer in the starter area yet, which doesn't bother me because you don't need to go back to a trainer to learn new skills anyway. However, it would be nice to have minimal monk presence in the old starting areas, just to feel like you belong. It is still beta, and this can and most likely will change.
keithcblack asked:
Have they sent beta invites out to Annual Pass holders yet? I haven't seem to have got mine yet.
Beta invites for the Annual Pass subscribers are going out in waves, with the initial tiny wave going out to some press, some Annual Pass subscribers, some opt-ins, etc., which what looks like a systems test. There is no way content that is currently available in the limited beta would accommodate the number of players ready to play because of the Annual Pass. Give it a week or so, and let's see what Blizzard says about the beta invite waves.
If we don't see the beta open up in terms of content available in the next couple of weeks, I would start to feel a little miffed and start up the angry train. Right now, the systems are coming online for the first public beta of the game.
ktphillips1217 asked:
So question, so i understand that monks use leather(or was it cloth till 40 then leather?) do the leather heirlooms work for them?
Monks only use leather armor, much like rogues.
gumpfanatic asked:
Has Blizzard said anything as to how they will explain Alliance pandas not being able to talk to Horde pandas? Do they not speak the same language together and grow up together on the turtle? Or am I completely wrong and opposing player pandas will be able to communicate with each other?
It is a gameplay decision, similar to why the Forsaken cannot speak common. This is one of those cases where the in-game explanation doesn't matter, because gameplay comes first.
recneps1337 asked:
what color are monks?
Monks are represented by a darker shade of green, almost like a forest green? Jade-like? I'm remembering back to my Crayola days. Hunters are a more muted green, whereas monks are a deeper shade of green. It's a different type of green.
slim1256 asked:
So, saw the video for this on Wowhead, and I have to ask:
Is it sad that, if I could choose any one feature from Mists to have right now, it would be AoE looting?
If there were any way to get AoE looting into the game earlier with one of the bigger updates before Mists of Pandaria launches, I would be a happy camper.

EU ones are also being rolled out. I can confirm from some (lucky) guildmates.
Hache Mar 24th 2012 12:19PM
Let me fix that for you:
If there was any way to get AoE looting into the game earlier with one of the bigger updates before Mists of Pandaria launches, I would be a happy *farmer*.
:P
All the clothes will be mine! mine I tell you!!
Cephas Mar 24th 2012 12:28PM
There aren't going to be any more "bigger updates" until the pre-launch patch, which they're planning on doing two weeks before launch. AoE looting (and all Mists systems) will be part of that patch, but that's still probably 4+ months away.

I often farmed Love Tokens in Icecrowns, several areas of mobs that die fast but are still green at 85, but I hardly looted them for reasons of time and speed, despite still missing Super Monkey Sphere on my main, which can drop from about any WotLK content mob, so yeah, AoE one-click-looting would've been awesome then :)

Question about AoE Looting:
If you have a full inventory, do you get a list of unlootables, or does the process simply stop, leaving you unclear what has and has not been looted?
I keep a fairly full inventory, and quite often cherrypick the items i want (greens+ and cloth usually), whilst leaving the grey trash alone.
Or (preferably) are there filters in the options menu - do not loot grey items.
dmberreth Mar 24th 2012 10:33PM
@Marbles
These does not seem to be a filter or priority system yet. It opens up one loot window with all the loot stacked up, seemingly in a body-by-body basis. I tested it out on my Paladin, because lets face it: I only REALLY started this game after I saw videos on Youtube of Vanilia and early BC Paladins AoE farming dungeons.
Cleared out one wing of Stockades at a time, turned on autoloot, and clicked one body. It was a very beautiful experience.
Filters would be an excellent thing to put up on the Feedback forums though!

Sooo you guys have seen that video of a warlock demo tanking on the beta servers, right?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oGgi341JXQo
Yeah. Not gonna lie, but this has singlehandedly made me reconsider my long-standing vow to never touch the demonic arts.
crimsonninja85 Mar 24th 2012 1:01PM
This has me super super excited. Im hoping they give the option to queue as a tank in lfg.
Knob Mar 24th 2012 1:01PM
That's pretty fucking badass.
Amanda A. Mar 24th 2012 1:04PM
I hope this makes it into live, as a glyph or a new spec. It looks like so much fun.
jishdefish Mar 24th 2012 3:06PM
I hope this makes it to live, and they give Warlocks the option to queue as tank. Then they give Combat Rogues the same Glyph-to-Tank option (Blade Flurry seems like a good candidate) and Pures have officially been eliminated (really, I've had the opinion that Pures need to be turned into normal classes for a while now).
jishdefish Mar 24th 2012 3:14PM
Of course, mages may be a bit more difficult. Mana Shield glyph? Either that or a Bloodmage-healer spec, which is highly doubtful.
shivcrank Mar 24th 2012 3:17PM
I'd so totally undust my 'lock. I used to raid with that toon in wrath, but the cata treatment wasn't so good for 'locks. Lock tanks in mists? YES PLEASE.
Luke Mar 24th 2012 9:57PM
As a Mage I do not approve.
Unless I get a frost tanking tree. Then you guys can do whatever floats your fel fire or whatever.
Aeduera Mar 25th 2012 8:45AM
I've always thought that mage tanking made a lot more sense than mage healing (through shield spells as well as kiting/evade mechanisms), but goddamn that video of lock tanking looks tasty as well.

Maybe I've missed it somewhere in the flood of information but is there a Wintergrasp/Tol Barad type zone in this expansion?
JattTheRogue Mar 24th 2012 1:02PM
I'm pretty sure they've said they're not doing one of those because they want to focus more on world PVP. Which I think is a pretty dumb idea, because they are two separate things and you could have both since WG and TB only happen at certain times. I love world PVP, but I've never thought TB or WG hindered that. The fact that I'm on a PVE server because that's where all my friends are hindered that, and WG and TB were the only places I'd ever find flagged Horde to fight, even when the battle wasn't happening. Yet one more example of Blizzard trying to change player behavior by taking things away instead of making whatever they want us to do more desirable (no WG/TB to promote world PVP, taking out HGWT to promote getting out in the world, etc.).
Daedalus Mar 24th 2012 3:28PM
@Jatt:
I don't think it's a matter of one distracting us players from the other, but a matter of where they want to put development efforts. Personally, I'm kinda glad not to see the same thing with a new coat of paint on it being re-used.
Gosten Mar 25th 2012 12:14AM
I think it was more an issue of Wintergrasp and Tol Barad being extremely hard to balance properly. They either have to allow everyone in like Wintergrasp which creates huge imbalance for the more populated side, or restrict it like Tol Barad, which leave most people on the more populated side unable to play. Last option is to rig the victory conditions so the attacking team usually wins, which is less than ideal also.
I think their plan is to have a capturable world hub similar to Halaa in Nagrand. That fits more into their open world pvp plan.
Paul Mar 25th 2012 7:03AM
I'm still holding out for the idea that it's going to be Kul Tiras...although I'm starting to think that will be the 5.1 content patch. (Basically, where do you think Jaina will go after the destruction of Theramore?)
