I seem to recall that locks initially had a taunt when Meta was first added for WotLK, I believe. I cannot remember what it was called (Challenging Howl?) or the exact effect (AoE taunt or single-target). I also don't remember if people were making a fuss over becoming lock tanks then.

Am I taking crazy pills?

In wrath, while in meta form, you gained demonic charge, demon cleave, challenging howl and immolation aura. Somewhat of a survival cooldown and a "oh shit" button for those pesky melee classes. ;)
