The Queue: Come to me, Pandaria
The beta does not currently allow questing on Pandaria, and it is driving me batty. It's so close! Let me quest, dang it!
bethontheharbor asked:
So has anyone bothered to get shots of the Theramore area, or is it blocked off. I haven't seen anything from that town posted anywhere.
Theramore hasn't changed at all yet, so there's nothing to see.
Goarther asked:
How much content has been added to the beta since the version that was playable at the press event?
The current beta build appears to be the same build we were playing with at the press event, but Blizzard's locked it down more heavily since then. At the presser, we were able to quest in Pandaria, but that entire continent is currently off limits in beta. Players' being able to access that continent in the first 24 hours of the beta was considered a bug, and you can't get there anymore. Temple of the Jade Serpent and Stormstout Brewery were both playable at the press event, but those have been disabled in the beta as well.
So ... as far as we know, there hasn't been any content added since the presser. There is actually less content available for testing.
direbadgercvlry asked:
Any word on new hunter tames yet?
As readers mentioned yesterday, the beta hasn't progressed quite that far yet. The continent of Pandaria isn't open yet, and the pandaren newbie zone doesn't let you tame anything. When Pandaria opens up, though, I expect you'll be able to take the new tigers, porcupines, and possibly cranes. I'm sure there are other things in there to tame as well, but we simply haven't gotten that far yet.
riley asked:
So which is it? Pand-a-ria or Pand-o-ria? I keep hearing both?
Well, there is definitely no "o" anywhere in the name Pandaria. It's name after pandas and not the Greek mythology figure Pandora. Suzaku supplied the simplest pronunciation guide yesterday, I think: "pand area" like "land area."
ejunk asked:
any indication as to where pandas are dropped off following the starting area?
If you choose Alliance, you get dropped off directly outside of Stormwind. If you choose Horde, you get dropped off atop a tower in Orgrimmar.

I thought the baby one in Felwood got kidnapped because he was an undercover journalist.

'erbs instead of herbs really grinds my gears, I get that it's considered normal in some places in America, but in Scotland it's just stoner kids trying to sound cool whilst wasting their life that miss the H.
Hob Mar 26th 2012 11:49AM
It's not "gnome" as "NOH-m", it's "gnome" as in "guh - NAH - muh".
Noyou Mar 26th 2012 11:54AM
It's taught in America that the H is silent in Herbs. Sorry mate. At least it was way back when I was in school. There are certain words like Fillet that you don't pronounce the T as well. I smile when I hear you Brits say Fill-IT. Again, it's what makes language so fun ;)
Aravan Mar 26th 2012 11:57AM
Arggo.... An old GM of mine used to say it and it was just a thing that we guildies used to laugh about. I have since come across quite a few others that say it that way, makes me want to AGGRO on them!
Hob Mar 26th 2012 11:59AM
@ Nick
Yes, but we also believe that we're the only speakers-of-English WITHOUT an accent. Considering how many different languages have passed through our linguistic digestive system, it's a miracle we can communicate with anyone.
Sorry for saying "erb" instead of "herb." But most Americans (I think) would agree that a herb is a sleazy salesman in a polyester suit, and an erb is a tea.

We had a raid tank who would refer to the Amalgamations on Spine as "All-mags". Drove me nuts every single time he said it. It didn't help that his explanations on each fight were longer than the fight itself. Thankfully, he wasn't around for our Madness kills, or quite a few team members besides myself would have jumped into the Maelstrom. Repeatedly.
Fweet Mar 26th 2012 12:11PM
I pronounce it "panda-RE-a" like "pizzeria".
No arias in my area.
D Mar 26th 2012 12:16PM
As I read this and post glyphs, there is a very "nice" discussion/educational session on the use of your compared to you're in trade. The guy is having a very hard time with the concept.
Yes I know that isn't a wow word.
kritorwow Mar 26th 2012 12:39PM
I pronounce Pandaria as: Pan-daria (like the character from Beavis & Butthead).
I know someone who says ma-lee instead of may-lay and it irritates me to no end haha. I remember when I first heard the "correct" pronounciation of Scholomance, I was like WTF? I always said Show-la-monce, and apparently it's Sko-la-monce.
Same thing mana. I always said man-uh and apparently it's ma-nuh.
Devo_AS Mar 26th 2012 12:49PM
I believe its pronounced pan-diarrhea
Jaq Mar 26th 2012 1:00PM
Is there a part of the world where the word "tomb" is pronounced the same way the word "tome" is? Every week on Hagara my raid leader calls the ice tombs "ice tomes" and I keep wanting to ask him where the frozen books are.
Of course, this is a guy who thinks Sarth is a female...
ithomhol Mar 26th 2012 1:03PM
I say Sha-trath, everyone else i know says Shat-wrath, i dunno whats right but im never saying like its a peice of crap!
Jimson Mar 26th 2012 1:18PM
To further confuse things, Americans (such as myself) pronounce "fillet" like "fill-ay," but manufacturing engineers (also like myself) pronounce a certain corner break as a "fill-it." Spelled the same, pronounced differently.
I knew there was another WoW word my buddy horribly botched, and the comments brought it to mind:
"Draenei" = "Da-nari"
There's many, many other similar stories, to the point that sometimes I think he is doing it just to see my ears bleed.
Microtonal Mar 26th 2012 1:27PM
The main tank in my guild during Wrath would say the word "adherent" as "ADDER-rent". Like a snake with an apartment. Drove me nuts.
Draelan Mar 26th 2012 1:27PM
Haha. Yep. I've got guildmates who pronounce things funny as well. I've heard people use words like melee (pronouncing it me-LAY instead of may-lay), Lich King (apparently one of my guildmates spent last expansion fighting the Lynch King while we were busy with the undead), and even Paladin. (Pronouncing it like "Aladdin" but with a P sound in the front.) And one even refers to Silithus as Syphilis, although that one's more of an intentional "I'm not sure how to pronounce this, so I'll give it a funny similar-sounding name!" sort of thing.
@ Jaq
I can deal with all the silly pronunciations of words from people in vent, it kind of makes me giggle, but every time someone refers to a dragon's gender incorrectly, I want to smack my face into my keyboard, ESPECIALLY if it's mind-blowingly obvious based on voice, or god forbid, LORE established throughout the entirety of World of Warcraft and shoved in our faces for the past 2 years. (Yes, I am referring to someone calling Deathwing a "her".) Maybe I could tolerate it if they were consistent, calling all dragons "he" for example, but it seems that whatever the dragon's gender, there are certain people who ALWAYS get it wrong.
lownwolf Mar 26th 2012 1:41PM
it's actually
Pandaria: Pan - Daria
Pan meaning many or all
Daria being a rough translation of the plural of derriere, meaning Butt's.
Many - Butts
take a look at the panda models and tell me i'm wrong
Killik Mar 26th 2012 1:41PM
Oh hehe - had the tome/tomb thing the other way round in Karazhan. Man, there must be some tiny people buried in those "tombs"!
Marty Mar 26th 2012 2:51PM
I can contribute to these.
I've got a friend who can't say anything right, and just sort of makes stuff up, I think, when he says stuff out loud. Some of his best goofs:
Orgrimmar becomes Ah-Grim-Ear
Carnelian becomes Carneline, and in Trade Chat if he doesn't link it, he spells it like he says it.
But the best?
Ultraxion becomes "Ultatraxon". Which, when we're raiding with any number of pugs, even one, and he says that "Okay, Ultatraxon is doing X ability!" vent goes silent and the pug says "...who?"
