It's been a while since we've replayed this video, but you know how it goes. We're all getting ready to put on our panda suits and charge into a new expansion. It's time to look at the world once more with the eyes of a nub.
This video by Yumfries, featuring Wick and Poshjark, nails down my zeitgeist on the subject. It's easy to call people nubs and be kind of self-righteous about it. But when we're charging into a new world, isn't that what we want? That sense of wonder and excitement about a whole new planet to explore. (Or, you know, zone.) So next time you consider calling someone a scrub, take a moment and ask if you don't wish you could be Forever a Nub. Interested in the wide world of machinima? We have new movies every weekday here on WoW Moviewatch! Have suggestions for machinima we ought to feature? Toss us an email at moviewatch@wowinsider.com.
While I like this video and the parody lyrics, I HATE the parody source with a passion and thus have a hard time enjoying this movie. That said, it also probably doesn't help that my girlfriend has this song as one of her alarm-tones on her phone, so I am often woken up by the sound of a song I hate.
After 3 expansions, countless hours played, multiple max level characters, multiple guilds and a gaming experience while universal, still entirely, and uniquely my own -- a parody/sentiment/song along these lines reminds me of yesteryear.
No matter how good I get, I will always forever be a nub. Wearing my Chef's hat for our guild's first heroic ultrax kill is proof enough of that.
On one hand I am excited for mists of pandaria, on the other hand I am feeling my age, both in game and in the real world. I am starting to feel like this might be my last hurrah.
I wonder what the wow parody version of the Madona Kissing Britney passing of the mantle on to a new generations of nubs would be?
I'm glad Blizz updated EK and Kalimdor with Cata, but at the same time...I wish they didn't. Being a nub isn't the same as it used to be. I leveled my first toon to about 35 back in Wotlk and I was damn proud of my greens and blues. I had worked hard for them, and had a true sense of self-worth as a result.
Now, leveling goes by far too quickly. Players can get to 60 in a week just by hitting the Dungeon Finder. Hitting 70 and 80, which used to be significant milestones, now have very little meaning. As someone who leveled pre-cata, this song has a special place in my heart, but rolling a new toon just doesn't have that same feeling anymore.
I think part of the ease comes from us knowing all the tricks now. Even when I was leveling a alt right before cata hit, it was just... so easy. Boring, but easy. I was blasting through content, knew how to avoid aggroing large groups, knew that caves had ledges where you could drop off and that the platform right across where you could see the bounty was a trick, etc. Yes, they streamlined it and it's a good deal less boring, but the ease hasn't really changed for me.
Still proud of the blues on my lower-level toons though. Some of those are from epic quests.
It's weird to think of when I was such a n00b I was asking where Mankirk's wife was when I first started questing... and this was after the patch that had map tips and guides. /facepalm
It's so weird to think that now I am a mad quester who has a couple toons over 80 and am rolling in gold. Back in Wrath Raiding I was doing top damage even! It's just fun to think about when WoW was new. Of course, I have a long way to go...
But now I am tempted to run a alt on a brand new server, without heirlooms. Yeah, I know that it won't be the same, but nostalgia is a kicker.

Geesh, I still love this vid.

It's a cute video and great idea. However, they need to stop trying to rap.

I think, speaking of nubs, that it's time to once more feature that brilliant old machinima "Ballad of the Noob". First machinima I ever saw.
