It would be nice if when a boss dies, you could select "Main spec" or "Off spec" to determine what roles you get your loot for.
So, if you're in a Raid Finder group after you have all of your main spec gear, you could still get some good gear without having to worry about your role.

This! If your rolls are independent of other players, you will never have a situation of "the damn dps took my tank trinket." It would encourage people to run the raids more to gear up their off specs, and the more experienced people running in raid finder the smoother things will go for the less experienced raiders.

I think the assumption is that you can get take on LFR in heroic gear, so you should just be able to queue as your offspec and run it that way. In that sense, it'll give geared and experienced players a reason to keep coming back to LFR.

seems like there are a few ways to look at the OS loot issue.
1. if you want tank gear, you must like to tank... so queue as a tank silly. there is not much point in OS gear if you don't want to use it so queue up and get to it.
2. Blizz should implement a UI element that toggles OS loot when you are raiding LFR. with that enabled the appropriate loot for you is drawn from both your active AND off spec.
3.Blizz should implement a UI element that toggles OS loot when you are raiding LFR. with that enabled the appropriate loot for you is drawn only from your off spec.
If you think about it options 1 and 3 are actually the same. The button to toggle which spec the loot system will use to determine the appropriate loot is the "activate" button on the talent pane. though with option 3 you don't have to play your off-spec to get gear.
I have a hard time wrapping my head around wanting to gear up a spec, but not wanting to PLAY that spec. I heal MS and sometimes OS dps. If I wanted dps gear, I would queue as DPS so that in addition to getting the gear together I would also get practice dps'ing the fights. An OS loot UI toggle might confuse people and really doesn't add anything useful to the game.

It's already pretty easy to build a last-tier offspec set from crafted epics and Justice gear, and that should be more than sufficient for LFR. Automated offspec loot encourages players to gear up for a role without actually performing that role, and I don't think that's appropriate for almost-current-tier gear.

@matt - This thinking works fine for DPS, and even healers, but it's terrible for tanks. When there's only two of you, it becomes painfully obvious when you are undergeared. Undergeared healers and DPS will sit at the bottom of the charts and at best annoy other raiders; undergeared tanks cause wipes and get kicked. I can gear my subpar healers & DPS by running current content, but my subpar tank has to go back a couple tiers to make sure she doesn't get squished. This is especially frustrating with how they've lumped all the heroics together; my ilevel from my DPS gear might get me into timerics, but that doesn't mean I'm ready to tank them. If it weren't for being able to roll on tank gear while in DPS spec, I'd probably never tank at all - the bar is just too steep.
