Mists of Pandaria: Pet Battle system details revealed

There's a lot of detail to be had, including details on how the Pet Battle abilities are broken up (it's not quite grass type vs. fire type) and how to command your pets to be the very best. So head on over and check it out.
It's open warfare between Alliance and Horde in Mists of Pandaria, World of Warcraft's next expansion. Jump into five new levels with new talents and class mechanics, try the new monk class, and create a pandaren character to ally with either Horde or Alliance. The more I read about MoP, the more I want it to go live already. But I know it's still probably months and months and months away. :(

June is not that far away.
Mperiolat Mar 28th 2012 1:25AM
June? I'm thinking September at least, only because the Jaina Proudmore book is set for August. Remember, Shattering was the lead in for Cataclysm, so I suspect the same will be true here. Could be as late as October.
Besides, they would not release Diablo III and MoP so close together. They'd glut the players time and both games would suffer. Diablo III will get the summer and we'll see MoP in the fall.

You can also look at what Blizzard did with the D3 release and the new book. They come out on the same day. Maybe it could b an August release. My bet is on August cause Blizzard beta testing usually lasts 5 months.

My bet is that Blizzard is currently planning/hoping for an August MoP release... but... well, this is Blizzard we're talking about, so it will end up getting delayed until October.

"how to command your pets to be the very best."
...like no pet ever was?
MikeLive Mar 27th 2012 8:03PM
To catch them... is my real test.
yagamimoon Mar 27th 2012 8:27PM
To catch them is in beta test
To train them is my cause :D
Noyou Mar 27th 2012 8:22PM
Wow. That's a lot of pets. After skimming through the details, I came to the realization that I am going to suck at pet battles. That doesn't stop me from PvPing though, so I'm sure I will have lots of fun playing :p
Revynn Mar 27th 2012 9:35PM
Same here. I was hoping it would be something really simple, but as I read over the descriptions and all the "X type does more damage to Y type and less damage to Z type but gets a bonus attack when fighting J types and gets the first turn" I started to remember that they've had a lot of practice creating and refining systems like this with the TCG game.
I'm going to be bloody awful at this stuff, but maybe I'll still be able to make some money by catching rares and selling them on the AH. If nothing else it will be something to do while you're waiting for the hunter to come back from AFK during raids.

TINY HARVESTER. YOU WILL BE MIIINE. /grabbyhands

To train them is my cause!

Darn you, comment system! *shakes fist*

Am I the only person that doesn't just not care about WoW-emon, but is actually annoyed they're spending time on something like it?
ten20four Mar 27th 2012 8:55PM
No, there are lots of selfish d-bags who try to drag everyone else down with them.
Revynn Mar 27th 2012 9:13PM
As a Horde player, I'm not particularly interested in Alliance questing zones. Does that mean they shouldn't put any in the game?
QM Mar 27th 2012 9:31PM
And so continues the trend of downvoting minority opinions, while upvoting those that insult said minority opinions. Xeno's post was valid and not douchebaggy in the least. We may not agree with him, but that's what opinions are for right?
I would rather that Blizz devote Pet Battle manhours to, say, green warlock fire, but I'm still looking forward to WoWemon. Doesn't mean I need to downvote xeno.
Unexplained Bacon Mar 27th 2012 9:39PM
I don't care about PvP. Should I be annoyed they spend time on that? Or how about archeology?
Ignore the parts of the game you don't like. Simple as that.
Revynn Mar 27th 2012 9:47PM
He wasn't downvoted for having a minority opinion, he was downvoted for thinking his is the only opinion that matters.
If you don't like the Pet Battle system, that's fine. Feel free to say so and even explain why. However, don't assume that because "I" don't like something the developers shouldn't "waste" time or energy on it. There are 10 million other players out there and a lot of them are very excited to have something to do at end game besides raiding and dailies, especially since something like 80% of the playerbase has never set foot into a raid while it was current. Do they not deserve development time?
WoW NEEDS something like this. You can only roll so many alts, get so many achievements and do so many random dungeons before the game just gets obnoxiously boring.
QM Mar 27th 2012 9:55PM
@Revynn
His opinion is the only one that matters? He thinks everyone should think as he does? I didn't get that vibe at all. I think you're posting about something that's not even there.
And Xeno didn't say they shouldn't be spending development time on it. He just wishes they weren't. It's a very clear distinction.
P.S. DAMN YOU COMMENT SYSTEM!! *shakes fist at the unfeeling heavens*
