Blue Posts: More Ghostcrawler, Rob Pardo plays Titan

Yet another Ghostcrawler post, and some Titan teaser ...
Blue posts
Ghostcrawler -- Warlock tanking
As some of you have pointed out, the glyph of Demon Hunting in your beta build doesn't deliver on what I described above as the design. The newer version of the glyph, hopefully available in the next beta build, allows a warlock to toggle in and out of the off-tank / survival mode, more like the druid going Bear or the warrior going Defensive.
The new shapeshift granted by the glyph is called Threatening Presence (PH) and adds Taunt and Fury Ward to the normal Metamorphosis toolkit. You still get the damage reduction from mastery instead of the damage boost from mastery while in this form. You can also choose to go into normal Metamorphosis even if you have the glyph. Let us know how it feels.
We appreciate all the feedback and passion on this topic. We expected this glyph would serve a pretty niche community and were surprised at how many players were excited about it. We are still in beta and are still very much experimenting with what kind of gamplay we can deliver in glyphs.

Its thew new mmo blizzard announced a few months ago.
So far we know nothing except that its going to be contentiously updated along with WoW, so its most likely not set in the Warcraft universe.
Personally, I'm hoping for World of Starcraft.
Just please, for the love of all that is right, don't be an fps mmo.
L_fetcu Mar 28th 2012 4:30AM
"don't be an fps mmo"
Amen to that brother!

Knowledge is limited, imagination encircles the world!

It's been speculated about for some time. A lot longer than, "a few months".

It was "announced" a few years ago and "Titan" is just the project name. Jeffrey Kaplan (Tigole) left the WoW dev team to start working on it back in 2009.
Some of the vague hints and speculation that's been gathered imply that it'll be a mixture of sci-fi, fantasy, and reality, and possibly involves time travel and mythological lost cities like Atlantis and Teotihuacan.
Suzaku Mar 28th 2012 6:20AM
Here's Jeffrey Kaplan's actual quote on Titan's setting from way back in 2008:
"...I'm shocked we haven't seen more sci-fi, near-future, post-apocalyptic, historical MMOs; there's all these completely different fantasy settings beyond the traditional high fantasy ones."
So is Blizzard's new MMO going to be sci-fi, near-future, post-apocalyptic or historical? "All of those combined!" he said, laughing.

Every time someone says "World of StarCraft", it annoys me.
There are 12 worlds in StarCraft. That would be like making another Star Wars MMO, and naming it "World of Star Wars."
And if it hasn't been made clear yet, it has nothing to do with any existing IP. Titan will be, from all info and reports about it, a casual scifi-based MMO with in-game ads. Possibly F2P, supported by an online store.

@Drakkenfyre
In "World of StarCraft", chose from one of ten exciting classes as you enter the epic life of a Terran colonist!
The Protoss come and purify the planet within five minutes of gameplay. The end!

Rob Pardo ...
Blizzard would only be half as good without that guy.
Super intelligent, highly regarded within the game designer community and someone who just has this feeling what gamers really want.
Together with Jeff Kaplan he made what WOW 2004 was at the time in world design, quests, etc... He is far more a player than a designer and far more a man of ideas than a player. He took ONE RED giant pencil and scratched ALL things that were boring in the old MMO's. Only the fun things were kept. --- 7 billion dollars later he was right all along.
Pardo is the man who wants the player to feel over powered. Instead of bashing 3 minutes on a single mob to down him, you need to down him with a few blows and then feel good about it. "Yeah".
No coincidence he made the initial speech of the RMAH in D3. I bet he launched the idea.
Diablo 3 was on the verge of being cancelled altogether, but the exciting idea of a RMAH saved it.
D3 RMAH - as an economic side game - will be long played after you are level capped or gear capped, he said. I am sure he is right again.
As for Titan : if Pardo is testing it, it means it is in pre alfa testing. The engine is ready, they are putting a world on top ... I think it is a clear sign the game will be ready in 2 years. 2014. Blizzard wants to go faster.
Killik Mar 28th 2012 5:09AM
Not saying you're wrong, but are you also Rob Pardo? ;)
Drakkenfyre Mar 28th 2012 7:14AM
I would like to know how you know Diablo 3 was "on the verge of being cancelled", and that the single-most criticized and controversial feature saved it.
With the expectation of Diablo 3, after having announced it 4 years prior, and the amount of work done on it, they wouldn't have cancelled it. They might as well shoot themselves in the foot if they had done that.
Bossy Mar 29th 2012 4:21AM
How do I know that ?
Some common sense can make easy predictions and conclusions.
I think the crucial point was around early 2010 when Pardo remarked in interviews they learned lessons from the failed gold value of D2. I think the possibility of introducing something better was studied before that time.
You should track all interviews/lectures on the internet about Pardo and see at which point they planned this RMAH. Oh he DID make it officially in August 2011 and the press was stunned when he introduced it, but I think IF the carefully planned RMAH was not implemented, D3 would simply not be launched.
Pardo also said it multiple times: he believes the economic drive behind a game like D3 is as important as the gear chase itself. He expects D3 to be played much longer after the player will be level and gear capped as an extra motivation.
Take out the RAMH and you only have half the game. D3 without the combined bomb of gear chase meets economy would just be another game.
Also the fact D3 had MORE changes to its core system in the last 5 months than 3 years before it, shows just how much Blizzard is working on this RMAH principle.
I laugh at the dudes saying "I don't play D3 because of its real money economy I can SELL things in".
Tell that to the kids who will brag they gained money by selling virtual mats...
Oh and please stop using that argument of "you will not sell much stuff if at all..."
Possum Mar 28th 2012 5:21AM
I don't understand what that screenshot is supposed to be?
Ysonia Mar 28th 2012 6:37AM
I think that's the point. A sneak peak that tells us nothing. :D
Killik Mar 28th 2012 7:04AM
It looks like a Titan.
Killik Mar 28th 2012 7:12AM
But it's Yor'sahj the Unsleeping, in his weird miniskirt.
Possum Mar 28th 2012 7:37AM
Oh. an upskirt photo. Not the 'sneak peak' I was hoping for.
kgavrin Mar 28th 2012 7:24AM
I can't help but keep thinking of the Titans from WoW lore every time I hear the name of that MMO. It could be pure coincidence, but I wonder if it isn't. I mean, heck, why not throw out a sci-fi game featuring the players as Titans? Let us reshape worlds, all that mumbo-jumbo, or whatever.
Yeah, I'm grasping at straws, but we have literally NOTHING on this game.
Drakkenfyre Mar 28th 2012 7:37AM
We have more than nothing.
It's scifi-based.
It's likely to be casual.
It will have in-game ads (a job listing for someone with experience with in-game advertising went up awhile ago. It said the position was for a future in-development MMO.)
It is not related to any existing IP.
It's rumored to be a FPS.
Pyromelter Mar 28th 2012 4:39PM
Titan is just a working title. Imagine if wow had been called "Project W" or something before it became "World of Warcraft." Games and movies usually get working titles, also they will often use misleading titles to throw lookie-loos off the trail of what they are really doing.
See Suzaku's post just below this one for further info.
Nina Katarina Mar 28th 2012 8:00AM
I'm thinking that they're going to integrate time travel into the game, somehow, with those mentions of lost cities, near-future and historical. A time travel MMO, with phasing - well, WoW does that today, sort of, although the transitions are somewhat clumsy. Could be interesting.
