Breakfast Topic: What are you just not that excited about in Mists?

As many commenters elaborated in my earlier Breakfast Topic, for everyone who's excited about something to come in Mists of Pandaria, there's someone who isn't. It's easy to say what we are excited about in MoP, with so many great features coming out. But as with everything, you have to take the rough with the smooth.
What I'm interested in today is not QQ and anger but rather which of the new features you're simply not that excited about. What doesn't really do anything for you? What can't you see yourself using or benefiting from?

Personally, I have my reservations about a few aspects of the expansion. I can't really see myself going crazy over the Pet Battles and the farming land, but I may well change my tune on that. So far, I haven't been blown away by what's coming out of the beta as far as the new continent and theme goes. I'm not saying it's bad, just that it isn't something I'm personally amazed by.
It's all relative, and compared to how excited I am about the new talents, for example, the Pandaria landscape doesn't come close. That probably has a lot to do with my WoW gaming preferences, too. And of course, as far as the Pet Battles and the farming go, I can just avoid playing aspects of the game that don't particularly excite me. Nobody's forcing you to farm. (Well, I hope they're not.)
However, there are so many more things I really, really am looking forward to. I'm not looking for "The whole thing sucks -- I'm quitting WoW!" But what just isn't really interesting or exciting to you?

I felt this way for a very, very, very long time too.
I was wrong, so horribly wrong.
PVP can be a -ton- of fun. The secret is to bring a group of friends with you, and stick together. Working together as a team while facing challenges that are never the same ...
Is a ton of fun!
I think people hate PVP because they remember the time the queue by themselves and died repeatedly in a BG, or remember being ganked while trying to quest ..
And I admit those things suck.
But give PVP a shot with friends and suddenly you might find that you change your mind.
Funny how everything in an MMO is better with friends. =)

I'm disappointing that people hate PvP after trying for a little bit.
Did you have resilience gear that is up to date? Did you have as many healers as the opposing team? If not, take your experience with a grain of salt.
I find nothing more fun than fighting against the most intelligent "AI" possible. It's so much more dynamic than a boss who stands there and auto-attacks the tanks and has random spell farts.

What am I not that excited about? Huh, that's a tough one. Well, if I had to pick one I'd say...challenge modes. The transmog sets look cool and all, but I'm not thrilled that blizzard is rewarding us for going through a dungeon as fast as possible and encouraging the "go go go!" types. This probably means we won't see any lore-heavy dungeons like we did with the Hour of Twilight heroics, which really is a shame.
MikeLive Mar 28th 2012 8:21AM
Challenge Modes are targeted towards the same kind of audience as Heroic raids. People who want a frustratingly difficult challenge. I think the Hour of Twilight dungeons were a huge success, and I think Blizzard knows this too, so I think we'll see more of this fun gameplay + intriguing lore style dungeons in the future. Normal and Heroic level dungeons still exist and are still the mass-market form.

Challenge Modes are separate from general instances, and they're intended for groups of people to go in and do them together. I doubt you'll find a lot of people trying to PuG these (or, if they do, getting extremely frustrated).
Not everyone does hard mode raids, but some of us love them, and as the previous poster said, Challenge Mode is intended for those types of people. While I think it's fine not to be excited about Challenge Mode because it's not your thing, to assume that the regular instances will not be interesting because Challenge exists is a fallacy.
Check out WoW Insider's own piece describing the new 5-mans. Jade Serpent and the Brewery both sound pretty engaging to me: http://wow.joystiq.com/2012/03/19/mists-of-pandaria-dungeon-preview/

More than anything, I'm disappointed by the story writing. I feel it's getting a bit too recycled. I feel it prompts a breakfast topic "Is the WoW universe getting too big?".
I feel sorry for the characters we've experienced and are now parked on a shelf in Groundhog Day style. It just becomes harder and harder to explain why factions aren't involved with fights when they could be.
How come for example, the Argent Crusade can kill the Lich King the very root of all they hold in contempt and yet are struggling to clear out a lvl35 quest zone?
My main issue is lore doesn't make for compelling gameplay. Then again, if the the Scourge were removed from the Eastern Plaguelands and the Argent Crusade were to dissolve into the peacekeepers of the New Plaguelands then who's to say there wouldn't be a new brand of enemies? Perhaps a new wave of Defias-style Renegades or perhaps the Dark Shaman would claim the land as it's recently been purified.
There are a tonne of options which simply can not be developed because a game takes too long. Would Azeroth benefit from a perpetually evolving world? Or would people miss out on the old story? I personally would prefer the Eastern Kingdom & Kalimdor to evolve each expansion and focus on core groups and introducing new conflict to established evolving factions than bring in new continents that we'll ignore in an expansion or two's time.
This isn't because I don't want to explore them it's just that I don't like the idea of things being left to settle in dust.

This is one of the many reasons that an MMORPG is a bad medium for storytelling.

The pet battles aren't doing it for me, so I will avoid those. Farming doesn't sound bad but I will have to experience that for myself.
And the running everywhere is going to be a drag, unless there are enough flightpaths to get back to the hubs. I guess I should clarify my dislike for the forced use of ground mounts, the thing that bothers me most about it is we need to be able to reach the mailboxes and trainers on a regular basis. If we have to run to a certain town or city, that will be a major pain.
On the other hand, if there are plenty of FP's then my objections to ground mounts until 90 is moot. Fingers crossed for lots of FP's.
MikeLive Mar 28th 2012 8:23AM
You'll learn your spells automatically as you level, trainers are now only used to reset spec choices, which isn't supposed to have any kind of regularity until max level (when you can fly anyway), and even then, it still shouldn't be regular.
Ullaana Mar 28th 2012 8:35AM
Thanks, MikeLive,
I must have missed that in the info overload. I still think the mailboxes, and repairs, are going to be a little more difficult but not needing the trainers as much is great.
Still hoping for a lot of FP's though.
VSUReaper Mar 28th 2012 8:47AM
I agree, pet battles and the farming stuff. I'm especially leery about the farming stuff because the potential to earn stronger than normal food buffs will make it mandatory and I dont want another thing that I have to farm.
Pet battles will be something I only participate in to get more pets. I really have little interest in a Pokemon ripoff.
The whole ground mount thing doesn't bother me, and in fact I am almost looking forward to it: I have a massive stable of ground only mounts that largely get ignored due to the fact it's faster to fly everywhere. My understanding is that there will be at least 1 class trainer on pandaria, and we will only need to visit the trainer at 87 and 90. FPs should also be at all major quest hubs like they are currently: this will make traveling easy and questing harder - we have to kill our way to the objective, and hopefully kill our way out.
Ullaana Mar 28th 2012 9:00AM
@ VSUReaper,
I have no problems with ground mounts and having to ride around Pandaria for our questing or whatever else we may be doing. I am only concerned about lost time to mailboxes, repairs, and now that I think about it the Auction House.
I could hearth but that still requires a ride back to where I was. If there are at least as many FP's as in Northrend it won't be too bad, and that is what I am hoping for but dreading if there aren't.
Caylynn Mar 28th 2012 9:05AM
I have no interest in the pet battles myself. As I've said before, Pokemon is something that my nieces and nephews played, so it's not something I've ever done. I love collecting pets, but don't see myself battling them.
Skarn Mar 28th 2012 12:18PM
I have solved your troubles! All you need is this http://www.wowhead.com/item=44235 and this http://www.wowhead.com/item=40768. No need to ever return to a town again, except to turn in quests!
Disclaimer: You may need to spend lots of gold and/or level a new profession in order to claim the wonderful benefits of convenience. If you're lucky, the stuff you make won't blow up on you!
Actually, what do you need flight paths for to find mailboxes? Almost anywhere that has a flight path you can hop on will have a mailbox and a repair guy or two. While you will have to run all over the place, quest hubs should always be fairly close by. I loved the pre-flight questing in Vanilla, BC and Wrath. I think it's a great choice for Mists. (Oh and remember that you can fly in Pandaria at level 90.)
raneydj Mar 28th 2012 2:00PM
Well actually, you don't need to get back to trainers in MoP (unless you want to respec), because you learn your new abilities on the fly.
Also, for the mailbox one, FINALLY engineers have an advantage! :P
OT: My one thing that doesn't excite me is the massive world PvP. I play on Archimonde, and we are hugely low pop. anyway, but more so the Horde outnumbers the Alliance greatly. I'm horde, so I won't be getting slaughtered, but still what fun is PvP is you KNOW you're going to win? This also leaves me with a bigger thing, Blizzard NEEDS to fix low pop. servers, and massive faction imbalance.
Boom Mar 28th 2012 8:16AM
Most likely the pet battles, but they might actually be an interesting diversion from regular activities. I actually like the concept of the farming land, especially if I can plant whatever I like (thinking those herbs that are just being overrun constantly but are needed for flasks - especially with the loss of Chug-a-lug).
L_fetcu Mar 28th 2012 8:17AM
Personally I am not sold on the rogue end tier talents (want's suriken toss as default).
I also am a bit anxious on the healing changes for Disc priests and abut the changes they WILL make to current priest tallents (Void shift is broken in it's current mechanic).
Lastly is the fact that 3 days after exopansion hits, after all mains will be 90 a mass of pandas will start to reise :))). Good thing pandas can be tanks, healers and dps... doing Outland instances in 5 dk was kinda lame. :)

Marcosius Mar 28th 2012 12:58PM
Wait what now? I wasn't informed of this!
MikeLive Mar 28th 2012 8:18AM
Challenge Modes, but then again I'm no longer a raider, even when I was it wasn't hard mode/Heroic (Challenge Modes seem to be directed at the same audience as Heroic raiding). I can't stand PvP, and while I'm looking forward to killing some Hordies in PvE content, I can't be bothered by PvP objectives and will likely ignore as I've done in previous expansions.
And, I'll be the one to say it, Pet Battles. I think they're an awesome idea that will be great for the game, and I look forward to all the new pets I'll be able to collect, but I just don't have a personal interest in it myself. That might change after I play it though.
