Mists of Pandaria Beta: New Dungeon and Raid Finder UI

I liked when the PvP interface was mashed together but it still had the drop-down menu issue. Hopefully, there will be a day when drop-down menus are gone forever.
Check out this gallery of the new Dungeon and Raid Finder utilities that I just snapped in beta. What do you guys think?
It's open warfare between Alliance and Horde in Mists of Pandaria, World of Warcraft's next expansion. Jump into five new levels with new talents and class mechanics, try the new monk class, and create a pandaren character to ally with either Horde or Alliance. Does this mean we can get our keyring back?
Pam Mar 28th 2012 10:29AM
Forget the keyring, I want a tabard ring, or a toy bag. Paper airplanes, ogre bubblegum, trapped in amber, Yogg's puzzle box, disco ball, Dalaran coin, green beam of light thing, orb of sin'dori, fishing chair, battle standard, Gnomeregan pride, Vrykul drinking horn, Mylune's call, Bones of Transformation, Haunted war drum, Mushroom chair, Leyara's locket, Highborne soul mirror, Brewfest Keg Pony, Party Grenade, Magical ogre idol, goblin weather machine, war party hitching post, romantic picnic basket, Kaldorei wind chimes, chalice of mountain kings, Arrival of the naaru, winter Veil disguise kit, dartol's rod of transformation....and that's just the stuff I keep on me at all times....

@ Pam -
YES. PLEASE.
I have one toy bag on my toon, and I keep the other two bags of toys in the bank. It would be so nice to free up all of that space, but I would expect Blizzard to somehow screw it up. No unique items, or no trinkets, or something you know, that made it less useful than it should be?

Was there talk of possibly getting stuff like that put into void storage at some point? I remember at launch there was banter about its limited usage, and I thought they were talking about expanding the stuff you can put in there. Or maybe I'm just imagining things. Heck, forget all the toys (though I want to put those in too), I want someplace to put vanity items. I for one think it seems silly that I can put part of the winter's veil outfit in, because it was crafted by someone, but not the parts that came from a dungeon. To say nothing of tabards.

I too wish for a "useless but fun" ring.

I guess scenarios are greyed out because they're only available at 90? Or perhaps they're greyed out because you haven't discovered any of them yet?
I know you can't answer that question without access to a developer, I'm just intrigued at the idea. So it's more of a rhetorical question than an actual question.

I like !
Abbadon Mar 28th 2012 9:22AM
Someone asked in The Queue the other day whether anyone was 90, and the response was that questing in Pandaria was not yet available.
However, aren't the Cata heroics and raids available in the beta? Traditionally, previous xpac endgame XP was very little compared to the amount needed to level in the new xpac, but XP gains were still there... Right there in your pics of the raid finder, it shows an XP reward for running the LFR Dragon Soul.
Is there any XP to be had in the beta at all right now, or is it all turned off?

what's wrong with dropdown menus? and, more importantly, what could you possibly replace them with?
Scuutor Mar 28th 2012 9:43AM
The biggest problem with dropdowns is that they hide choices available to the user, and by extension, the context around that choice. Even if the drop down list is accurately labeled, the user is required to understand what decision they are making without being able to clearly see the choices presented to them. (not to mention click to expand, scroll through a list of things, click the wrong one, curse, goto step 1)
With the screen resolutions we have today, there is usually more than enough space to make some, if not most or all of the available options visible immediately.
/end lecture
TL;DR: there are better, friendlier ways of presenting choices to your users.
Pam Mar 28th 2012 10:37AM
I kinda agree. I know that in the PVP Q, when it's all listed in one big list, sometimes, it doesn't always pick exactly what you know darn well you clicked in the list (aka Holiday weekend vs Random....how is it that you know you clicked AV, only to find yourself in EotS?).

Make it idiot proof and someone will build a better idiot
stoppableforce Mar 28th 2012 9:33AM
I like it, if only because I can never remember what the key for the raid finder is.
Snuzzle Mar 28th 2012 1:02PM
Lol I agree. Personally, I think they should have been bundled together from day 1.
Marbles Mar 28th 2012 9:36AM
The Keyring was a Data Storage problem. Each character on the server had X amount of data allocated to remember which keys were owned, how many, which bag slot they were in. Removing the Keyring allowed the now freed Data-per-character on the server to be reused on other per-character concepts - like Transmogrification, Pet Battles, etc.
This LFG/LFR change is merely a User Interface upgrade. There is no technical difference between clicking through the pre-5.0 or post-5.0 versions - the result when pressing the "Queue" button is the same. It merely looks flashier, and is ideally easier (or more intuitive) to use.
Bumblebee Mar 28th 2012 9:43AM
Will we be able to queue for multiple things at once? Would be really nice if you could be in line for a dungeon or a raid, then go for whichever pops up 1st. Or maybe make it so that you can queue for 1 PvE and 1 PvP thing at the same time. Often times you could get a random BG done while you wait in line for a dungeon or raid. Would be nice to not have to commit yourself to one or the other, especially since you can't really know when you'll get in. Maybe have an option to put priority on one part over the other...?
Smashbolt Mar 28th 2012 12:08PM
It'd be fine if you could queue both (say) a BG and Raid Finder, and whichever comes up first, you go in, while leaving the queue for the other.
What I don't want is to deal with players leaving dungeons because their BG queue finally came up, or vice versa.
Bumblebee Mar 29th 2012 3:12AM
@Smash Good point. That kinda system could work.
Revynn Mar 28th 2012 10:34AM
Why not just put the PvP queues on the same panel and have one general, all purpose queuing interface?
wow Mar 28th 2012 11:01AM
"Why not just put the PvP queues on the same panel and have one general, all purpose queuing interface?"
Because it is logical and makes sense... hehe
Seriously, though, I would love all the "Queues" to be in one convenient panel. :)
