Book/Author suggestions: Lloyd Alexander, Le Guin's Earthsea books, The Dresden Files (Butcher) Though having to skip paragraphs once you get further in the series as he feels the need to re-introduce his car/cat/other stuff is annoying. Come on Butcher. If someone is on book 9 they know EXACTLY what is going on when talking about those things. Stephen King's Eyes of the Dragon, it was written as a bedtime story for his daughter, but it's King, so you know, freakin' awesome. I've read the first 4 Wheel of Time books, as others have suggested. I wouldn't, too long b/c of too much fluff (imo). These are just fantasy type books. the Hunger Games was pretty decent as well, but only the first book, the 2nd was mediocre at best and the 3rd was crap. Non-fiction; Guns, Germs, and Steel.
These are just off the top of my head. Most I wouldn't be surprised if you've read as they've been around a while and are well known in nerd culture but in case you haven't, hit 'em up.
