Playing WoW REPETITIVELY won't improve your brain. The redundant tasks (like in other games) are just therapeutic to keep the brain active & lessen decay.
The only way to build neurons is to continually learn NEW stuff.
Think of it this way: At the beginning of an expansion, you're learning new skills & exploring new areas so your brain adapts. There's less activity once you've experienced most of the game. By then your brain is going through reenforcement mode. Only by doing something different or forgotten (eg. starting out PvP, rolling a new class) do you use different parts of your brain.
