Last night, we were treated to a
beta patch with a bunch of new information, files, items, and more. The brand new character creation screen has gotten some major improvements, and the male pandaren are getting many new skin color and texture options, ranging from older and gray looks to a few red panda color schemes borrowed from the females. Suffice to say, there are a lot of color and fur options for new pandaren players. Check out the gallery of male pandaren fur and skin color choices below.
It's open warfare between Alliance and Horde in Mists of Pandaria
, World of Warcraft's
next expansion. Jump into five new levels with new talents and class mechanics, try the new monk class, and create a pandaren character to ally with either Horde or Alliance. Look for expansion basics in our Mists FAQ, or dig into our spring press event coverage for more details!

Do any of the red skins have a tail like the females?
Massa Mar 29th 2012 12:37PM
Picture 16 shows the back of a male red panda. It does not have a tail, but the regular nub in the color chosen. (It may have been added after these questions started.)
Of course, this could change as it's in the Beta...
Velina Mar 29th 2012 12:49PM
Yeah, that picture wasn't up when I ask. Thanks for the reply!
Lohkie Mar 29th 2012 12:50PM
@Massa
dear sweet jeebus i hope they change the "tail". I know many people were asking for one on the male panda, but to me that tail in picture 16 looks like someone needs a lesson in proper bathroom hygiene.
EVOXPISCES Mar 29th 2012 2:22PM
@Lohkie: LOL Touche
Shinae Mar 29th 2012 3:34PM
@Lohkie: Actually, the tail is in a more accurate place on males than on females.
The tail is a continuation of the spine and would therefore be where a human tailbone is.
This was brought up in the comments of the female customization post. Just as I called it, if the tail were placed lower than how it is on the females, people would complain that it looks like it's coming from the butt:

IMHO, it's fine where is.

@Lohkie: Oh why, oh why did I actually have to look upon reading your comment rather than simply taking your word for it? Cannot be unseen...... :(

I like! I also have noticed the extreme drop of chronically negative commenting on MoP as Kung Fu Panda. Now when people do it, it says a lot about the person's ability to keep up with the bitter nerd social skill set.

I would think Blizzard loves the references to such a popular movie. It's good publicity for them.
And personally, I am way to jaded to think that it was all a grand coincidence that Blizz comes out with Kung...I mean "pandarians" right around the same time as the jack Black vehicle.
Sure, it's just a coincidence. No high-paid marketing suit never, ever, ever saw a connection.
No sireebob.

Kung-Fu Panda: 2008
Pandaren: April 1st 2002
Yup, must be a coincidence...
roseclown Mar 29th 2012 1:21PM
@Bynde
You do realize that the first Kung-fu panda came up years before MoP was announced? And that Pandaren were created years before Kung-Fu panda was made? And that Pandarens were going to be included in Burning Crusade as a Alliance race before they decided to use Draenei instead, which was also a year before Kung-Fu Panda?
Which is to say... timing don't really work, yo.
Bynde Mar 29th 2012 2:51PM
I think it's simply adorable that you guys think there was no
consideration of Kung Fu Panda I or II when this idea of 'Mists' was
in development. (BTW, KFP II came out in 2011).
Don't ever change your innocent ways. It's refreshing to see.
Possum Mar 29th 2012 4:16PM
I think a timeline of events may be too complex for these people..
Jorges Mar 29th 2012 7:37PM
@Bynde:
I'll just leave this here... http://classic.battle.net/war3/pandaren/
It's the official Blizzard page of the Warcraft 3 joke about Pandaren. You can look at the Kung-Fu Panda references of the illustrations.
Don't ever change your foolish ways, it's refreshing to find someone so easy to bash :)
Puntable Mar 29th 2012 12:20PM
Just one question. Red male pandas. Tails or no tails?
Shinae Mar 29th 2012 12:24PM
I like the really light and really dark grey options. It's nice that there's such a spectrum, including the brown and reddish-brown.
RogueJedi86 Mar 29th 2012 12:25PM
Just in case no one else asked, do the Male Red Pandaren have tails? ;) :P
Mathew McCurley Mar 29th 2012 12:29PM
I added another picture to the gallery for people asking about male pandaren tails. All male pandaren have a nubby tail that is their appropriate skin color where you would expect it to be, much like a regular bear.
Shinae Mar 29th 2012 12:45PM
Oh, bother. :-/
Less sexual dimorphism, please. (I think goblins win at looking the most alike between sexes.)
tulipblossom Mar 29th 2012 1:26PM
I totally agree, Shinae. I don't think it's a bad thing for the male and female models to look somewhat similar. In fact, they should look similar. All you have to do to make one more feminine than the other is to soften the hard edges a bit and make tiny adjustments. And, body-wise, I think the boobs pretty much do that trick. It's not exactly difficult to tell the difference between the male and female Pandaren, based on body alone. Or, most other races.
I personally really dislike the nose and mouth area of the female Pandaren that we have so far. I don't want it to change, I would just like the -option- to change it, though. I'd like to have actual customization of the face, the way we do goblins, gnomes, humans, orcs, etc. I want to be able to change her expression, the shape of her muzzle, her eyes, and all that. It's not a new thing, it's what we have with most other races, so it seems like something to expect. But, we didn't get that with the Worgen and I fear we won't with the Pandaren either, although I really really hope we do.
An old friend of mine is staying at my house and she plays wow, too. She brought up how the male muzzle looks so much more panda-like than the female's. And, how with the female face being so different than the male's already, why couldn't we just have an option to change her muzzle? Or, several options. Something like this:
http://i1174.photobucket.com/albums/r620/pandarenpics/pandaren2.png
That's just the male's muzzle copy and pasted onto the female's face. Nothing else has been done or tweaked. It's slightly blended to make the colors match and that's all. You can easily see the difference between the two. Now, I'm not saying we should change the female's current face. I know some people like it and I'm totally cool with that. But, could we have options such as this? Most other classes do, you know?
I definitely still feel like even with that second muzzle, she looks feminine and you can tell she's the female. I'd just really really like to hear from the designers and artists and get their thoughts on this sort of thing. It would be awesome to have an open discussion.
