Last night, we were treated to a
beta patch with a bunch of new information, files, items, and more. The brand new character creation screen has gotten some major improvements, and the male pandaren are getting many new skin color and texture options, ranging from older and gray looks to a few red panda color schemes borrowed from the females. Suffice to say, there are a lot of color and fur options for new pandaren players. Check out the gallery of male pandaren fur and skin color choices below.
It's open warfare between Alliance and Horde in Mists of Pandaria
, World of Warcraft's
next expansion. Jump into five new levels with new talents and class mechanics, try the new monk class, and create a pandaren character to ally with either Horde or Alliance. Look for expansion basics in our Mists FAQ, or dig into our spring press event coverage for more details!

I like that tweaked image tulipblossom. It's very subtle. I had to look close to tell a difference. It sure doesn't change the femininity of the Pandaren by having that male muzzle.

The whole sexual dimorphism thing makes me think if Blizzard did a Star Wars game with Wookiees as a playable race, the female Wookiees would be hairless and have a huge rack and be about 3 feet shorter than the males, plus a tinier curvier face(like FemPandarens).
Come on Blizzard, you don't have to go all the way to 100 on the Dimorphism scale for us to recognize that they're female. Tone it back to about 50. We see boobs, we see curves, we see female. You don't have to do everything else too.

I just wish we would finally get male models for Blood Elfs. I mean its been two expansions and we have male and female for every other race. One of those settings on the creation screen should have a male option by now.
I like the panda models too.

Wow, the shopped one looks so much better then the original face. That looks like it would be super-easy to do, just flatten the top of the snout some and wide the nose a bit.
We'll have see if there are more face options, but I think Blizz would be stupid to not do that.
Snuzzle Mar 29th 2012 2:48PM
The other sad thing? It looks like Blizz thinks marking passes for faces now. They did it with female worgen, and now both genders of pandaren. It wouldn't be so bad if the "faces" option changed the eyes or nose, but it doesn't. Bleh!

Thanks so much, RogueJedi86. I really appreciate that. And, I completely agree with what you said about taking it back a bit on the scale. Sometimes it really feels like all or nothing and that's just not logical. A happy medium would be fantastic.

Totally agree with that sentiment as well, Snuzzle. You guys both hit the nail on the head, I think.

Hrm...#7 is speaking to me but I do hope males also get the option of the bushy tail. I can't really call him a red panda Pandaren w/o a bushy tail :(
tulipblossom Mar 29th 2012 1:11PM
I'm so happy that the guys are getting red pandas, too. It felt unfair to think that only the female might get such a cool option.
I am a little worried now, though, looking at all the customization tabs for the male. I have this knot in the pit of my stomach, telling me that the last two empty tabs for females are going to be for -hair color- and -embellishments- (like scars and jewelry).
I really really hope I'm wrong, b/c I desperately want to have actual facial feature choices to choose from; I want to change my female Pandaren's face around, so that her muzzle is different and or her expression.
If I am right, though, and they don't offer facial changes, other than markings and fur colors, then I just have to wonder why on earth the teams would do that again. The whole worgen debacle happened b/c they only offered one base face for both male and females. The males looked pretty great, so not too many complained. But, the female's face was a lot less accepted by most and not having a choice to change it really really upset a lot of folks.
Why would they limit facial feature options and expressions? They have so much time to work on something like this. Most other races have the choice to change their facial expressions and features. But, not the Worgen and possibly not the Pandaren, either. It just doesn't make sense to me, honestly. I think it's disappointing, if we end up lacking that kind of customization for a model that otherwise looks fantastic.
roseclown Mar 29th 2012 1:23PM
I don't think it will be hair color. Otherwise, why link different hair colors for different furs? That seems a little much trouble to go to when you are just going to have the option to change the hair color anyway.
tulipblossom Mar 29th 2012 1:34PM
I really really hope you're right, Rose. See, I was thinking that at first. But, seeing hair color on the one tab for the male's made me think otherwise. But, I hope so much that I'm wrong.
And, the thing is, I really really love the customization we have so far. I love the fur colors, the markings, and the hair. I think all three look absolutely phenomenal. I don't want to change the female's face, so we're stuck with one and only one. I just hope we'll get the same option as most other races to change facial features, too. So that we can have different expressions, with different shaped muzzles and eyes. I like expressive characters and customization that allows me to make my toon feel unique to me. It has a huge impact on how much fun I have with my character, when I play.
Someone said to me yesterday, "I like characters with character." And, I completely agree with that sentiment.
roseclown Mar 29th 2012 2:05PM
I definitely agree with that. Right now I have two goblin girls who I love, and I have to keep myself from making more because their customization options are so amazing. I find myself going to the barber shop on them all the time.
I just can't imagine Blizz would make such a mistake after what happened (and is still happening, with threads still going about the subject) with the female worgen. Yes, this model is much better and I will probably roll one regardless, but customization isn't that fun if you don't get any real differences.
As for the other customization options- remember, the goblin girl's features were linked to her jewelry. So we have hope there as well. Not to mention that I find it doubtful it is taking so long for them to implement something as simple as hair colors or only jewlery pieces to the customization in the beta. Admittedly, I decided to remain positive about this because the Worgen stress of last time has still left a bad taste in my mouth, but I definitely think that Blizzard wouldn't put so much effort into a model to brush aside one of the most important features of it- the actual features!
tulipblossom Mar 29th 2012 4:26PM
I know just what you're saying about goblin girls, lol; I have the same problem! They have so much awesome variety, that I really do have to stop myself from making more. I keep getting tempted to try classes I've never even been all that fond off, just so I can make another goblin female. x3
I also know what you mean about being hopeful after the whole debacle with the female worgen. It definitely does seem odd that they'd make that same mistake twice. And, like you said, they've put so much work and effort into the Pandaren. To make them so nice and then leave out options for actual features seems unfathomable.
I'm really glad that you pointed out the connection between embellishments like jewelry and certain facial features on the goblins. That's very true! I hope that'll at least be what happens with the Pandaren, in the end, if not a full tab for features in general. That would be really wonderful.
Jorges Mar 29th 2012 1:17PM
Is that the only face pattern they have? I could swear I saw the female having more than one pattern for their face. I hope they have more than one, otherwise they'll just look as simple recolors.
Jorges Mar 29th 2012 7:40PM
Oooh, I just saw another post about the Pandaren male facial hair and yes, they have different facial patterns!
Blizzard really did an amazing job with the Pandaren models!
roseclown Mar 29th 2012 1:26PM
...Blizz, omg give the girls that dark-all-gray/black panda skin! (if they don't have it already.) I luuurves it.
Matthew Mar 29th 2012 1:34PM
I've dated guys who look like some of those models. Someone at Blizzard is a member of the Bear community - it's official!
Tygerwolfe Mar 29th 2012 2:34PM
Minor annoyance for me, but why is it pandas get a tail and worgen don't? Running Wild wouldn't look nearly so awkward if we had tails rather than just a big butt sticking up in the air.
Or is that just me?
:P
slythwolf Mar 29th 2012 2:38PM
Because worgen mobs have been in the game since vanilla and they never had tails as a species?
Will this never die?
