The newest
Mists of Pandaria beta patch has brought an unexpected new feature: vendor filters. Players are now able to set which items they would like to view on any vendor by selecting a filter near the top right of the window. You can set which items will appear based on spec or whether the item is bind on equip, making searching through heirloom or valor point vendors for items to send to your alts easier than ever. This is another great example of Blizzard's looking at the addon community, seeing an easy solution to a quality-of-life fix, and adding to the default user interface. Frankly, this type of interface creation and tinkering has kept
WoW at an interface advance, even eight years down the line.
I hope that Blizzard continues to add more filters to the new vendor filter system and maybe even gives us a way to set our own filters. Maybe we'll soon be searching by slot, class, affordable, level required, etc. There are plenty more filter options to include if Blizzard is so inclined.
It's open warfare between Alliance and Horde in Mists of Pandaria
, World of Warcraft's
next expansion. Jump into five new levels with new talents and class mechanics, try the new monk class, and create a pandaren character to ally with either Horde or Alliance. Look for expansion basics in our Mists FAQ, or dig into our spring press event coverage for more details!

I'm honestly impressed with all of these "quality of life" tweaks that Blizzard is making to the game in MoP. First AoE Looting, then Boss Loot Redistribution (which is a huge improvement for the LFR system), and now Vendor Filters. (Others I've missed?) Most of these are things Blizz didn't have to do, but they did - and the fanbase seems very appreciative. The more I keep hearing people find out the beta, the more I'm getting excited about launch! :D

I would love to see self-buffs auto-reapplied on resurrection in battlegrounds... As a demo lock, I was very grateful to have my demon auto-appear without resummoning, but it still niggles to have to reapply 3 buffs every resurrection - particularly as I die lots!

Whilst they are at it... some better AH filters/options would be more than welcome ;).

Buy SWTOR. Load it on your machine. Mess with the auction house for 30 minutes. You will run screaming back to WoW thanking Blizzard for not doing it the way Bioware did.

Ouch :P. Could still do with a few little tweeks nonetheless though ;)

Thank f***ing god!

Why would they put in a half-assed filter system like that? Just take GoblinVendorFilter and build it into the game.
Drache Mar 29th 2012 10:44AM
They don't do that. Same with Power Auras.
Of course there would be issues with just snagging an addon and implementing it (who owns what rights to what etc.).
What they do is take some key elements of successful addons and put it in the game for some "quality of life" improvement for people who don't run (m)any addons, which helps a lot of people. At the same time it doesn't make the existing addons useless, as they still provide some additional benefits. I think that's a good balance to gradually make the default game better and still keep addons valid (and keep addon authors interested)

Despite the downvotes, he does have a point. GoblinVendorFilter allows you to sort by item slot, the stats you want, item quality, etc....but perhaps Blizzard is just starting out with the basics and may improve on the built-in vendor filters in the future. They do that with lots of new features based on addons (ie, built-in raid frames)
Still, I'll probably be sticking with GVF, assuming it still works in MoP.

I'm perfectly happy with this. I can tell the difference between a head piece and a glove in an instant. The only real problem I've ever had searching vendors was carefully figuring out whether I was about to buy the Prot, Ret or Holy tier piece.
The solves the biggest problem without being adding more than necessary.

Right now, this is defaulting to my current talent spec (Protection) on any and all vendors I talk to, each time I talk to them. So, for example, the wine or noodle vendors will have nothing showing up when I talk to them, until I change the filter to All.
Hopefully this will change to default All, and only filter when I want it to.

I approve of this new vendor mechanic. Thanks Blizz for getting the message on making quality of life changes to the game.
Don't think for a moment that this will earn you a pass on balancing class mechanics.

well, if you're using GnomishVendorShrinker, you should certainly be using GoblinVendorFilter too. Makes dealing with vendors pretty trivial.
My only real beef with it is that there doesn't seem to be a way to make my filter selections "sticky", so I have to select the filters each time, but that's probably on purpose, so that you don't forget that the vendors have other items. lol

Why dont they just implement this now?
Shane Mar 29th 2012 2:07PM
Because it would require a client patch, and they generally don't like to do them for minor UI implementations like this, and wait for the next version update.

Wow, I was just browsing for JP/VP gear last night and wishing there was a feature like this. I'm psychic!

I understand one thing of constant interest and can even be taking to bear in mind of that. Thank you.
Thanks and Regards
