The Queue: Pandaria is open on the beta

Fun times on the beta after last night's patch. Pandaria, which is the level 85-to-90 zones, is open for play (well, at least the Jade Forest is, which is all I can directly confirm). I have to say it was quite fun to run around and kill some boars while learning the new warlock mechanics.
I love being able to be in demon form a bunch. That's going to make a helluva interesting raid mechanic.
Logan asked:
How do you start the new level 85 content in the Mists beta?
Eventually, there'll be a ship or something to take you out there. For now, talk to the pandaren near the main bank and AH in your capital city. They'll teleport you over.
Laim asked:
Do we know, lore wise, how or why the mists around Pandaria have gone away?
We don't, exactly. As Pyromelter pointed out from the March Press Tour FAQ:
Nick asked:Sometime in the wake of the Cataclysm, the mists abruptly vanished. Alliance and Horde naval fleets, engaged in skirmishes around the world thanks to the new Warchief's aggression, suddenly found a new continent where once charts showed open seas. With both factions escalating their feud into a global conflict, the war for Azeroth shifts in a new direction.
Why did the mists collapse at this crucial moment in world history? The answers revolve around the will of the last emperor, and lie at the heart of this strange new continent...
is there any way to change your pose on the armory? mine looks horrendous!
There used to be controls to do that on the armory page, but Blizzard took them away for one reason or another. We've been told they're bringing them back, but no ETA.
Mark asked:
Doesn't this beta feel like an extension of tbe press release? I have yet to hear of anyone else in beta but the fansites. Not even friends and family.
There are more than just press and fan sites in it. I know several people who are unaffiliated players who have gotten beta invites. That said, the first wave was very, very small -- and you're right, a lot of press and fan sites did get in, but by no means are we alone.
If I had to guess, I'd wager the next waves will be happening soon, so just hold tight and everyone will eventually get in.
Datgrl asked:
Based on your past experience, how does this beta compare to BC or Wrath? Does it feel more finished? Are there fewer glitches? What is better about how this beta was handled than in the past? What do you think Blizz could do to improve it? Are beta testers given a method to provide feedback or is it just a topic in the official forums?
I had the chance to play through some of the Jade Forest this morning, and it all feels pretty well done. There are some noticeable issues with almost all the classes still, but that's to be expected in any beta environment. The world itself, though, seems remarkably complete.
I have to add, running around on the ground instead of flying really brings you into the world more. There's much more of a connection to what you're going to do and how you're going to do it, rather than just plopping down and killing whatever boars you need to.
Feedback can be provided in-game or on the forums. We'll have a Beta Testing 101 up on that aspect soon.

Cos has it right. The only exception is crusader aura (which is why if you fall behind the AV zerg, you fall really really really behind).
I'm actually kind of surprised that they aren't giving out crusader aura to more classes (or just getting rid of it flat out); it's kind of imbalanced on some maps where you can get to a node and tag it before the enemy even gets there.

It's my understanding that current max speed pushes their engine/connection to the limits, so I wouldn't expect another speed boost.

As I understand it, a good portion of the quests for Pandaria are already completed. Does this include the Panda starting zone? I was thinking that when I get into the beta I could play through the starting zone and take my time and read quests. Then when it comes live, I could just blow right through it. Do you think the starting expereince will go through any drastic changes at this point?
Puntable Mar 29th 2012 11:41AM
The turtle island seems fairly complete and the quests are pretty good. The only exception is the ending where the Pandas interact with the Alliance and Horde on the island. That part needs a lot of work. I still don't know if they ever explained how the Horde got on the island.

/surreptitiously caps medicine bottle and slides it under desk
"Crazy pills, you say? Hmm... no idea what you're talking about."

Gah!
Been taking some of my own medicine, it appears... :(
This should have been down there (/points down one post)

I expect that the Pandaren starting zone will continue to change. At this point in the Cata beta, the Worgen starting area felt just as "complete", but it is very different from what we have now, in terms of quest flow and objectives, and does have much more story to it.
@Puntable - Horde that are on the island were prisoners inside the Alliance ship that crashed. You get about one line of text to explain this. Overall, that entire section with the Horde/Alliance meeting business needs some serious work.

Did I just miss this weeks wow insider show? I even went back through Monday and didn't see it.
Elodie Mar 29th 2012 11:55AM
I feel like I'm taking crazy pills! There wasn't one this week, and I tweeted at a few of the Podcast guys and I asked in yesterday's Q as well. No one has answered me. :(
Shinae Mar 29th 2012 12:10PM
They're probably rather busy with all this beta coverage. ;)
Vorken Mar 29th 2012 12:18PM
@shinae
I hear that, and I understand it takes time, and effort, and many things to get this to happen.
But as a regular listener, it would grind my gears having heard every week for three months that they wanted the press release and the beta out to talk about and yet both are out and all we got was a live show 11 days ago. I don't think there's a lack of topic.
I was more just curious because it has varied from mondays to thursdays on a release date but its getting late.

I didn't realize this wave of Beta invites was so small. I'm even happier that I got one! :D
Unfortunately having a new baby limits the play time... hopefully this weekend I shall conquer Pandaria!

I see myself fortunate too that I got an early Beta invite. I've loved the experience so far. :)
My son is due May 27 this year. ;) So my playtime will drastically go down. :(

Congrats to you both! My son is due August 20th. I'm desperately hoping for a June/July release of Mists so I can play a bit before he comes.
Ullaana Mar 29th 2012 12:22PM
Congrats to all 3 of you.
As a grandfather, let me give you a piece of advice that I'm sure you already know, but what the heck, enjoy their childhoods as much as you can. Unlike Azeroth, they grow up way too fast.
Congratulations again, and to anyone else with little ones to love.
tessadean Mar 29th 2012 7:46PM
Congrats to all! As a mom of 4 and grammy of one, I agree you need to enjoy them while they are little and you can still squeeze their cheeks without getting dirty looks.
On the good side, if you plan it right they can grow up and be a General in your guild, as is my youngest.
win-win :)

Q4TQ:
We've been told thus far about the 11th character slot to allow us to try out monks, but has there been any mentioning anywhere regarding cross-realm heirlooms? Understandably this isn't a pressing/priority issue at the moment, but it would be fantastic if I could brush off the dust on my stockpile of heirloom gear!
dmberreth Mar 29th 2012 12:22PM
They took a shot to the foot making Heirlooms able to be mailed across factions, negating the need to possibly pay for a faction transfer.
Aside from the likelihood that the coding to be able to send something to someone on a different server is much more advanced than someone on a different faction on the same server, I don't think they'll take a chunk out of their server transfer income - any more than they have with the new SoR anyway.
Boobah Mar 29th 2012 4:46PM
Really, the only thing we've heard is that they're working on a 'better' system for getting heirlooms to the characters that are going to use them. No real word as to what it's actually going to be, though.
Mattgibb Mar 29th 2012 11:43AM
How big is the Pandaren model compared to existing characters?
