WRUP: A bunch of cool cats
Ah, the weekend! That magical time of the week when all you cool cats get out there on your choppers and ride.
But more importantly for our purposes here at WoW Insider, the weekend means it's time to WRUP. That's when we check in with our WoW Insider writers to see what it is that they're doing this weekend. This week's bonus question: When Mists of Pandaria Pet Battles launch, who's going to be your go-to pet?
Anne Stickney (@Shadesogrey) With any luck, I'll be installing a new PSU and video card this weekend. ULTRA SETTINGS WILL BE MINE. ... Also, I'll be seeing if that copy of Curse of Monkey Island I found works with Windows 7 or not. If it does, my name this weekend will be Guybrush Threepwood, and I will be a mighty pirate! If not, well then, I guess I'll just be Anne and mess around on the beta and stuff and get my super-awesome legendary daggers on Sunday ohmygoshIcan'twait!
Chase Hasbrouck (@alarondruid) Haven't played much of anything since finishing ME3 ... The ending's put me off games for a bit. Will be attending the Sherwood Forest Faire this weekend to see David Arkenstone and jousting, which is awesome.
Dan Desmond (@antigen_) I'm going to try to get my Alliance paladin past 40, though at the rate I've been pumping out the experience, I'll most likely be 50 before I realize. Also, I will probably promote a few characters for the operation in Mass Effect 3 multiplayer this weekend and keep chipping away at some silver matches. Eventually, I'll stop peeing myself when I see four Phantoms in a single wave. Eventually.
Daniel Whitcomb (@DanielWhitcomb) I'll probably be releveling my Engineer, Adept, and Sentinel in Mass Effect multiplayer after promoting them for Operation: Raptor. I'm hoping my victory pack has the Valiant Sniper Rifle this time. The Widow's OK, but it's not as useful in MP when you don't have time slow, at least for me. As far as Pet Battles go, I'm hoping to the use the Ghostly Skull, the Alliance Balloon, and the Darkmoon Faire Balloon as a team. I'll call them Team Airhead!
Elizabeth Wachowski (@leeatwaterlives) I'll be trying to figure out why all my books in Skyrim now read "cannot look up" and then go from there, either progressing onward or a fresh restart. For the bonus, I'll stick with my orange tabby cat. The real version is a pretty scrappy fighter.
Fox Van Allen (@foxvanallen) If I play anything, it'll be Wonderboy in Monster Land or Fantasy Zone 2, both of which I downloaded over the Wii Virtual Console. Otherwise, I'm going to be prepping some fun trivia questions for PAX East -- we want to give you something to do while waiting for the show to start. Bonus: Fox Kit, of course.
Joe Perez (@lodurjz) Honestly, going to try to take a quiet weekend and relax out of video games for once. I have my tournament chess set to take out to the park when it's nice out or coffee house when it's not and play some games with strangers. It's a lot more fun than people think. Also I have a ton of writing to do; I have about a million ideas I need to get down in digital ink, so that will likely be this weekend as well. Bonus: My go-to pet will be my Purple Puffer Fish. I just love that pet. /Purple Puffer Fish casts Splash; it's not very effective
Josh Myers (@PostColloquial) I am playing a console game! (This basically happens annually.) I rented a game called Kingdoms of Amular: Reckoning, thinking it was going to be awful, mindless fun. In reality, it's pretty, interestingly designed, well plotted, and mindlessly fun at
times. Oh, and for the bonus: Spirit of Competition, no doubt. Pet Bombling is a close second. Gotta rep my max-level-on-multiple-characters love for engineering.
Kelly Aarons (@Cadistra) The usual -- some art, some WoW and some Devil Survivor. I'm sorry I don't have anything more interesting going on, not like all those people going to Emerald City Comic Con ... *grumble*
My Poke -- I mean, Warcraft pet for the Pet Battle will be my ever-present companion, the Cenarion Hippogryph hatchling. Now I just need a baseball cap to twist back ...
Lisa Poisso (@LisaPoisso) We've had non-Mists beta testing going on in my household, and I don't have the Mists beta yet, so our gaming excitement is still coalesced around the former. NDA, though, so, yanno ... As for pets, I've been ignoring the pet achievements and only focusing on collecting those pets that utterly delight me for some time now; I don't think I'll change that approach for Pet Battles. If I don't come across a new pet that captures my heart, I'll be there with my trusty Captured Firefly!
Mathew McCurley (@gomatgo) More PAX East preparations, Mass Effect 3 is so close to being done, and then some WoW panda beta. Yay! Also, going to set up a stream soon. Wewt. Oh, also, my go-to pet will be Horde Balloon or Mechanopeep.
Matt "Matticus" Low (@matticus) Still too distraught to play Mass Effect 3. Maybe I'll revisit Portal and Portal 2. I've tanked my ranked games ELO in League of Legends down to an abysmal 912. Very depressed at the number of 4-on-5s I've been playing and my inability to truly carry a team to a win. For the bonus, I fully intend to master the dragon type pets. I'll be relying on the Crimson Whelping or Faerie Dragon to outskill and crush my enemies.
Matt Walsh (@Rhidach) Going to be playing some more Mass Effect 3 multiplayer this weekend. Maybe some Civilization 5 as well. Still dragging my feet on replaying the whole Mass Effect series, but if the mood strikes, maybe ME1. As for the bonus: Pet Bombling used Self-Destruct!
Megan O'Neill (@slowpoker) More spring cleaning for me, including organizing my DVDs and books. Then I'm trying archery with friends on Sunday! Bonus: I need a team of Prairie Dog, Rat, and Rabbit, à la Critter Battle for Mulgore.
Michael Gray (@writegray) This weekend, I'm hooking up with the local Offbeat Mama gathering, which should be cool. Otherwise, playing some beta and doing the do! My go-to pet will be whatever's the closest to a black lab, because I am consistent.
Olivia Grace (@oliviadgrace) Anne has inspired me to potentially replay Monkey Island on every platform available! God, I love that game... Also, probably running my mage through a bunch of Battlegrounds and dungeons to get her to 85 and PvPing! I've mentioned the Pet Battle thing isn't really doing much for me, so I haven't considered it. How about Toxic Wasteling, Enchanted Broom, and Sen'jin Fetish? The fetish could glare at them, the wasteling would envelop them like an evil jellyfish, and the broom would ... umm ... clean up?

My Moonkin Hatchling. I'm not on a roleplay server, but I keep insisting she's my main's daughter. She's quite the talented little druid. I've been using the Darkmoon Cub and Hyjal Cub for her cat and bear forms, respectively, so if I can make a balanced group from those three she can be her own tiny arena team!
I'm still hoping she'll have a teeny-tiny Moonfire or Wrath attack.

Ministarfall!

Sadly, this weekend is moving weekend for me, so RL will be the norm, with minimal virtual interactions.
I'm hoping my Pandaren Monk will be able to use my Pandaren Monk for all it's slave fighting needs.

For those trying to revisit the old Monkey Island games, if they aren't the new remastered ones, look up ScummVM. It's an emulator/interpreter specifically designed to let you play t those old LucasArts adventure games on modern equipment (even Androids and iPhones).
I'll be doing some much needed spring cleaning this weekend, leveling my holy paladin for the Convert to Raid old school challenge, and maybe check out this Mass Effect thing people have been talking about.
For pets, I'm going with bunnies, starting with the Snowshoe Hare.

You need to find a treant pet to complete the set. That would be awesome.

Frigid Frostling (I think that is the name- from the Ahune midsummer thing?), hopefully he keeps his icebolt. I want to use Egbert but all he does is run crazy all over the place and look damn cute. Perhaps he can draw the enemy all over the place. The evil box pet from last year's Hallows End, perhaps. He has a pretty vicious effect on critters. Maybe the giant sewer rat. Just because he is one of the bigger pets. It will be interesting to see what special abilities they will have, if any. So that's my team of 3-4. I will have to try out Egbert in Beta (if I get in :p) and see what he can do.

If I have time, before the Final Four starts, I will play some more X-Com UFO Defense. I just can't stop playing it. On Sunday, I might re-activate my WoW subscription through the Scroll of Resurrection. Reading all of this MOP news has rekindled my interest in WOW.
