I honestly don't think it's conspiracy theorist at all, Shrike! Someone earlier also said they are willing to do such large numbers to quell those that wouldn't stop complaining, so instead of doing it in the process they wanted, they'll let everyone in.
Where stuff won't be fun, so those that truly don't want to test will go away. I'm hopeful they'll go away sooner rather than later, as I had fun doing beta testing in Cataclysm! I was hoping I'd get in sooner (still no invite) as I was in one of the (if not the) first waves of Cata invites.
But if reports of overcrowding and lag are to true, then I'm happy to wait for them to leave. :-)
