"You are not your character."This, many times over.Far too many RPers fail to recognise the OOC/IC boundry. While their character may not be the same race or gender or personality or whatever as the player, they still act like they are one and the same. This oft manifests itself in becoming super-defensive and possessive, acting as if any attack or criticism or slight was aimed squarely at them as a person, rather then at their character.Unfortunately, it's a problem that's pretty much institutionalized in RP communities. One cannot offer criticism or advice or suggestion without it being taken as a personal insult or even an attack on the player themselves. And RP communities support this attitude, taking the approach that those who dare criticise characters/RP are cyber-bullies or the like, hating on the players themselves, usually followed by accusations of being "anti-RP" or so forth. The result? Nobody dares criticise; nobody suggests that anything can go wrong, nobody does anything about truly awful RP. Rather, the "all RP is good RP" mentality takes hold.
