You can simply log on to your battle.net with your device and remove authenticator. Then you can upgrade phone, reinstall app and add authenticator. Also I'm really glad this article went to smart phone installation instead of the header tagged "iphone" installation. They sucked even when they were cool. Was scared somebody was still using one.
