The Queue: April Lovefool's Day
Happy April Lovefool's Day, everyone.
Jeremy asked:
Has blizzard released information about how many people actually signed up for the World of Warcraft annual pass? If so, how many people signed up?
The official number last we heard was "over a million people." It's likely grown in the past few weeks, though, with the MoP beta beginning.
Ragecage asked:
With the introduction of mass/aoe looting in MoP, will there be an impact to sites who collect and then calculate the drop rates of certain items?
That's an excellent question.
I have no idea.
Pace9 asked:
Do we know if LFR will extend to old raids? If so, I'm remaking the Draenei Death Knight I had in Wrath and level capping him at 80 so I can run Uld,ToC, and ICC every once in a while =)
It's possible but unlikely that queueing for old raids will become available in Raid Finder. With old 5-mans, there's always the possibility someone is passing through that level range and can get XP from it; raids are a different beast entirely. People don't do those when they're leveling, and it's a crapshoot whether anyone on any given night would want to run AQ or ICC. Besides, do you really want to do C'thun with 39 (or even 24) random people?
Pace9 apparently also asked:
With the revamped talent system, is anything happening to dual specialization?
It works the same, fundamentally -- you choose a specialization, and you can switch to it any time out of combat. Talents and glyphs are remembered for each spec, but bear in mind too that talents are changeable like glyphs now.
Shiel asked:
So my husband just got his beta invite (lucky bastard) and tried grouping with some random people to make questing in the sea of pandas slightly easier. Oddly, they were only able to get a total of 4 people in the group before it said it was full. Anyone else have that problem? Didn't see anything on the official forums for it, and since *I* have not gotten my beta invite yet, I can't post about it either. Just curious if anyone else had that issue.
I had the issue as well when trying to hand assemble a group for Temple of the Jade Serpent. It's just a bug; parties are still five people in MoP, and queueing through the Dungeon Finder gives you a full group of five.
Swivelshanks asked:
I may be getting ahead of myself with all the cross-realm stuff, but when do you think we'll be able to transfer EU characters (and perhaps whole accounts) over to US servers? Please don't say never :P Looking for an estimate here, even if it's 2015 or something. Thanks!
Well, I won't say never, but I will say "probably never." It's really impossible to give you an "estimate" of when Blizzard will implement something it said it probably won't implement.
Fuzzl asked:
Is there any particular reason Blizzard got rid of the "feedback" system for Beta quests? And along those lines, is going to the forums the only way to report bugged quests or provide feedback right now? I wasn't in the Cataclysm Beta, so I'm not sure if it was there but I definitely remember a response system popping up in the Wrath Beta after quests were completed. It seemed like a nice system that was a lot easier than popping out of game to go to the forums with a formalized post about a specific quest.
I don't think there's been official word on whether that system has purposely been left out or whether it's coming soon. I think Blizzard might be a little concerned about signal-to-noise ratio in these reports, given that there'll be over a million people playing the beta in its lifespan. The number of people being given access to this beta dwarfs the population of any other WoW beta (possibly any Blizzard beta, period). Could be that Blizzard's decided to just use the forums as its main feedback mechanism -- after all, would you want to sort through milllions of feedback notes?

Aweseom. I just grilled some marinated skirt steaks and brats. Festival of meat! (that sounds so wrong but I don't care :p)

BTW, kids, the tape recorder shown in the video was already old-school when this was shot 15 years ago.

@Ragecage's question:
With the introduction of mass/aoe looting in MoP, will there be an impact to sites who collect and then calculate the drop rates of certain items?
I seem to recall it being a toggled option for aoe looting, so if this remains true than it won't affect a thing! :)

It shouldn't change the drop rate one bit. X # of mobs are dropping. You still count the number of mobs not the # of times you loot.
Boobah Apr 1st 2012 3:53PM
It really depends on what information is available to the addon and what it actually grabs.
If the addon looks at your target whenever a loot window opens, and then adds the contents of that loot window to one looting of that mob name, then any time you AoE loot your numbers will end up off.
It's similar to how many elementals showed absurdly higher drop rates for the elemental bits (like Essence of Air) because most elementals never had any loot, which meant no loot window and not adding to the count.
It's not likely to be a real issue for bosses, since AoE loot will rarely matter there, but it's likely to cause problems with other stuff.

Queue for tomorrow's queue hopefully!
I'm looking to buy my monk-to-be heirlooms. I already have the leather sets, but as far as weapons I'm not sure what to buy for the melee dps / tank component. Fast Daggers? Slow Maces? 2H Mace? (For heals, I'm sure my monk will be using the int staff) Thanks for helping my choose wisely!
Gaurisk Apr 1st 2012 3:29PM
I'd suggest checking out what little has been gleaned about the ability tooltips for the Monk's abilities. Tanks will almost certainly want staves to cut down on the number of parries and ripostes they hand to bosses, but whether DPS Monks want fast or slow weapons will depend on whether they have bonuses with chances to proc (the reason why Rogues like fast offhands) or whether their attacks scale well with base weapon damage (in which case you'll want slow weapons that hit big.)
It's entirely possible that you'll just end up using the same 2.6 speed Agility maces that Enhancement Shammies use, in which case there will now be at least two classes that get something decent out of Brewfest.
Boobah Apr 1st 2012 4:08PM
The only heirloom weapons that monks can use are
For mistweaver:
1) The caster maces
2) The caster staves
and otherwise:
3) The dps 1h-swords
4) The dps 1h-maces
Now, the devs have mentioned that the plan is for brewmasters to use agility polearms and staves like ferals and guardians do, but it isn't particularly clear (to me, at least) why they'd prefer that to dual-wielding (which is supposed to be the preference of windwalkers), and at any rate there are no current heirlooms of these types; the feral weapon is a mace, specifically to prevent hunters from gaining another stat-stick, irrelevant as that may be in MoP.
As a caveat, the tanking sword heirloom may work for brewmasters, although it's restricted to main hand only and the strength on it won't help monks at all.
Boobah Apr 1st 2012 4:11PM
Oh, and as an aside, no bosses have had parry-haste since ToC, so that isn't likely to be a reason for brewmasters to eschew dual-wielding.

Wowhead is saying that legendaries are transmoggable? Any confirmation?
Ellesmere Apr 1st 2012 3:00PM
Check the date on your calendar, good sir.
aidyTM Apr 1st 2012 3:25PM
Wowhead actually said that there were mystery vendors in Vanilla areas that popped up every now and then selling recolours of Legendaries. For around 60k gold each.
You might just have been fooled, sir.

Beta Q4tQ:
What are the starting weapons for the 3 Monk specs? Also- do you get dual wield right away or once you pick your specialization?
Puntable Apr 1st 2012 4:39PM
Starting weapons are fist weapons. You can switch to a staff with an early quest reward. Dual wield at level 1.
Noyou Apr 1st 2012 9:21PM
Sweet.

(regarding the last question) I think it's possible that Blizzard have resigned to the "marketing/demo" beta model. Honestly, unless you're paying them (as opposed to the entirely opposite scenario we have here), you're not going to get MOST fans to actually break their stride of play to look for bugs, and I think Blizz knows that.

Oh man, I saw The Cardigans perform Love Fool live at a taping of Late Night with Conan O'Brien. Tape date: Feb. 5, 1997.
Matthew Apr 1st 2012 3:47PM
Did you also (like me) buy their album only to find that they had no other good songs?
greenbeans Apr 1st 2012 3:24PM
Ugh, I hated that song when it came out. Still do.
For the dual spec, it seems there's no way to respec at the moment (talking to your class trainer resets your talents, but not spec). And any of your chars you copy over come with their 1st spec already taken up, so choose carefully for the time being.
