The Queue: That one drop

Welcome back to The Queue, the daily Q&A column in which the WoW Insider team answers your questions about the World of Warcraft. Adam Holisky (@adamholisky) will be your host today.
I just wanted to mention in The Queue today that one drop. It's that one thing that you can never get, no matter how many times you run the instance. This weekend, a buddy of mine and I decided to run a couple of dozen heroics in order to get the last bit of gear needed to tank and heal in the Raid Finder like pros.
Of course, his healing shield and my tanking shield never drop -- that is, until the very last run of the weekend.
I love how the game plays with your mind like that. Twitch.
Stabaa asked:
Is the release date for Christie Golden's tides of war still July 24th as reported back in January? Could this date if true be a hint at the imminent release of MoP soon after just like cata and the shattering novel?
Right now, it's listed as Aug. 28 in Amazon. But I wouldn't put much weight in its being at all related to the way Mists is going to play out. Remember that Blizzard has said Mists is going to be telling a greater story than other expansions have, that we're going to have campaigns here. This book could very well be part of the later story in Mists.
Jamie asked:
I got my Force Reactive Disk from Molten Core the other night. How do I deal with getting one of the first items I fell in love with back when I started WoW in 2007?
That's how I feel about the Drillborer Disk. I still remember when I got it back in 2005, I exclaimed on Vent, "Oh my God, sweet! I always wanted this!" I still have the original sitting around in my bank for good measure, although it's not as great as Bulwark of Azzinoth. Nothing is better than that.
Alchimist asked:
Will people that didn't set up their beta profile setting, but still signed up for the annual pass, get a beta invite?
Yes, you do not need ot have a beta profile in order to get the beta invite in the Annual Pass. It says so in the FAQ.
Rob asked:
What's the count on beta invites so far? I think it might be 300,000.
There were a total of 300,000 sent out last week, and then how ever many got in with the initial wave (probably very, very small). I wouldn't be surprised to see another 300,000 this week.
Margepus aksed:
I have two world of warcraft accounts on my battle.net account. One account I actively play, and one I have not touched since Wotlk's release. Can my buddy scroll of resurrect my inactive account even though it is attached to a battle.net account with an active WoW?
Yes, the Scroll of Resurrection depends on the WoW license, not the Battle.net account.

Margepus I did just that with my scroll, worked perfect!
Narayana Apr 2nd 2012 11:14AM
It's important to note that s/he could also cast the Scroll on himself/herself. You don't even need to involve a third party at all.

I did that to my 2nd account, I got a level 80, and all the perks for $15 sub + $25 account transfer = $40. Its worth it if you figure how much time it takes to level a toon to just 80, especially a class i wouldn't have much interest in otherwise.
Narayana Apr 2nd 2012 12:41PM
I'm still contemplating if I want to spend the $25 to transfer my rogue to my main account. Do I really want to spend $25 on a class that I completely blow at?

That healing shield. THAT HEALING SHIELD.
I still haven't gotten it. The one Jaina drops OR the one Blackhorn drops, despite weeks and weeks of trying. Rocking the 359 elementium stormshield I bought off the AH.

Yeah, it really sucks that the one healing shield in the Hour of Twilight heroics drops off of a boss that is only available randomly. :-/
I ran my mage alt through the HoTs over and over this weekend, but I never got the Satyr off-hand or the hood to replace my engineering goggles. I'll should get enough VP for a hat tomorrow.
Adam Apr 2nd 2012 11:27AM
Sad but true, once you get one, you'll get the other moments later.
Got mine off Jaina last night, then hit up the RF with some friends, and the shield dropped off Lootship 2.0. Guess who won...
Puntable Apr 2nd 2012 11:45AM
Items for tanks or healers are MUCH easier to get in the LFR, because of the roll bonus. For a tank you are rolling against 1 other tank. For something like a healer shield, you are rolling only against the other healers that can equip a shield.

I feel your pain. All through ICC 25 man regular and heroic, Marrowgar refused to drop the healing shield. We were convinced he had no int shield on his loot table, and it was a cruel joke by blizzard. I was still using a shield from Ulduar, since ToC regular and heroic had not been kind to me RNG and DKP wise. :(
Right now I'm frustrated with DS. Although I've seen the healing mace drop off of Deathwing plenty of times, my disc priest has had absolutely no luck winning it - either on 10 man or LFR. Oh well, finally got my 4 piece today.
RNG is generally not my friend. :(
Caylynn Apr 2nd 2012 11:56AM
@Puntable, I wish that were true. My poor disc priest has yet to win the off hand or the healing mace, despite running LFR every single week since it has come out. :( And of course they don't drop on 10 man for me either. :( I am a sad priest. :(
Puntable Apr 2nd 2012 12:04PM
There is still luck involved, but when the healing mace drops, you are still rolling against 5 other healers, rather than 16 other DPS. You can't deny the math.

One tip on getting specific drops from Endtime is this:
Get a full group of friends. Go to the instance portal and enter manually instead of queueing. Once you're in, check who the first boss is. If it isn't the one you want, exit, reset instances, and go back in.
The downside is that you have to hope that you get the boss you want within your first 5 tries due to the instance limit (but if you *really* wanted to game that, you could just bring all five party members to the instance portal, have them each try only 4 times, so that everyone's 5th attempt is saved for when someone finally gets lucky).
This is how my guildies ensured we got Sylvanas when we wanted to do her achievement.

And elemental shaman. :D

The worst part about running the HoT instances on my 85s now is watching gear that I know one of the other ones need drop. We got in a discussion about in a Pug the other night. I know that is part of the game, but...
kgavrin Apr 2nd 2012 3:18PM
I'm having similar issues. My Paladin is running around in Holy with an Elementium shield made by a fellow guildmate, and a pair of crafted PVP shoulders in Ret spec. I can't get that shield to drop from Jaina, and the only time the 378 plate DPS shoulders drop is when I'm on a different toon. And, of course, shoulders and shields can't be bought with JP or VP...
Ilmyrn Apr 2nd 2012 4:11PM
For me it's the Twinblade of the Phoenix off Kael'thas in Tempest Keep. I've been farming him every week for so long and it just won't drop.

While looking around the official WoW website, crabby said to me,
"There are a total of fifteen "Easter Eggs" in the Beginner's Guide. Can you find them all?"
Is that true or is Blizzard April Fools trolling me?
evoxpisces Apr 2nd 2012 12:23PM
You were being trolled for April Fools. That said, they should make an in-game holiday out of April Fool's Day and call it Troll Day.
Drakkenfyre Apr 2nd 2012 12:56PM
That's been there since that new guide was put up (i.e. years ago) so it's not an April Fool's.
