Especially likely in older areas, on a theory that in early WoW they may have re-used more texture maps to save on file sizes / bandwidth / memory usage.Going 'out of bounds' could thus just leave you wandering in the parts of a photoshop file meant for somewhere else - or the parts were a layer underneath was not covered up by the currently used layer in a photoshop file that was used for many different things.
