2012 World of Warcraft Arena Pass coming soon

For those of you on the fence about whether to try out the Arena Pass, Blizzard is once again offering up Murkimus the Gladiator to any player who play and participate in some fights. The best of the best are awarded with the Vanquisher title, and players who sign up now will get access to a level 90 PvP realm for Mists of Pandaria PvP events coming when the expansion goes live.
Check out more information on the official World of Warcraft community site.
We're pleased to announce that the 2012 World of Warcraft Arena Pass is nearly here. Starting April 10, players will be able to sign up to compete against like-minded individuals in a dedicated Arena sandbox. The Arena Pass service will feature access to the special tournament realms with level-85 character templates and epic gear from Cataclysm.
As an added bonus, we have included an exclusive reward that players can earn by purchasing their Arena Pass and participating in the competition -- an Armored Murloc in-game pet. Top players will also contend for a chance to achieve the "Vanquisher" title for their live characters. Players that choose to take part in the 2012 Arena Pass will also receive access to a special level-90 realm with upgraded epic gear after they've upgraded their accounts with the upcoming Mists of Pandaria expansion.
If you would like to demonstrate your Arena prowess, are eager for a chance to earn the exclusive loot, or just want to reserve a spot in the level-90 Mists of Pandaria Arena Pass realm, please check back next week for more details and be sure to register!

How much is it?

So is the level 90 realm just going to be next year's temporary Arena Pass realm or is it a permanent realm just for Arena Pass participants? 0.o
Thander Apr 4th 2012 1:52PM
Sounds like it will be a permanent thing. I expect there to be an monthly fee around $5 a month (in addition to the $15/month). Two realms: level 85, level 90. The level 85 will probably be removed sometime after the expansion release, but it will stick around a little bit for people that don't buy the expansion.

Who cares what titles or gear you get on a non-live, temporary realm? What a waste of time.
raaawwrrrr Apr 4th 2012 12:37PM
You get a title in live WoW, as well
Sean Apr 4th 2012 12:37PM
The Titles and Pet are for the characters on your Live Realm. If I'm not mistaken, all your toons get the pet, and you choose one toon to get the Vanquisher title. I could be wrong about that, however.

Clearly states that the title and pet is for your live characters.

"Who cares what titles or gear you get on a non-live, temporary realm? What a waste of time."
Pinche idiota.

I am losing my mind. I swore I read a blue post about this yesterday. It had both the length of the time you would be in the level 90 realm and the price of it- which was $20. Do they delete blue posts? I check the blue tracker on MMO champ and couldn't find it.

Premades with easy access to PvP gear is how WoW's PvP should always work, not just during Arena tourneys.
Bril Apr 4th 2012 12:52PM
Agreed but Blizz is bitterly opposed to separating pve and pvp in the live game. I bet there are some very skilled programmers at Blizzard who could pull off pvp balance if it were separated from pve.

I think PvP and PvE should be brought closer together, but neither removing the gearing phase nor offering free gear is the way to do it. Without offering tangible and meaningful rewards the game suffers.
The question we should really be asking one another is, 'aside from gear, what other rewards could PvP offer?' And if that is the case, could the same be done for PvE to keep that interesting without the rampant stat-inflation that plagues every expansion?

Do you have to have a team?
loli.gigis Apr 4th 2012 1:02PM
This will be my first year doing it.... I am soooo excited! :D So can you only choose characters you already have or do you get free reign to pick any characters? I wouldn't mind dinking around on top level of the classes I have been not really wanting to level just to see if I should actually work on it more.
GabeCo Apr 4th 2012 1:22PM
Any class you want. That's pretty much the only reason I buy it. I make a Mage and slow fall off every tall object I can find.
Not to mention, the huge battles at guru basho arena are a blast too!
Greg Apr 4th 2012 1:10PM
For all those who claim that PVP would be balanced 'if only there were no gear discrepencies.'
I'll see you in the arena. I won't be gentle.
Yada Blah Apr 4th 2012 3:21PM
I can see where it would help considerably, though, by removing or at least, alleviating, the distraction of trying to acquire the best gear to fight in.
While the gear may need tweaking to be perfect (for one's chosen playstyle), at least you're not stuck with inferior gear to do it with.
loli.gigis Apr 4th 2012 5:01PM
lol I have been rolled by and defeated those with 'superior' gear in arena. I think people miss out on the important thing... just have fun! It actually wasn't *less* fun to lose then it was to win. It was more epic and exciting but at the same time I have always picked up a new trick or just in general learned something new every time I have stepped into the arena. That is more important to me then being the absolute best, mostly because the best didn't get that way by whining their gear wasn't as good as others. They got there because they had fun and continued to learn how to be the best.
I look forward to seeing you in the arena! And no, don't hold back even if I lose I will learn something very important there.

I see anytime someone make a negative comment toward anything blizzard does. Their comment gets blackened out. Its almost like youre not allowed to speak whats on your mind.
Well all Im going to say is this. Here we go with another offer from Blizzard with the word "Pass" in it. If we learned anything from the last "Pass" they offered. I wouldnt put to much hope in to them keeping their word on what they offer. They will change something at the last minute and re-nig on their end of the deal. Leaving you stuck paying for a "Pass" that your stuck paying for.

It's a one time entry fee. How far you progress and stay in the tournament is solely dependent on your team's win/lose rankings.
