Welcome back to The Queue, the daily Q&A column in which the WoW Insider team answers your questions about the World of Warcraft. Mathew McCurley (@gomatgo) will be your host today.
That's the sound that a resplendent chest makes when you open it in Diablo III. Seriously. Think about it.
BKellyCS asked:
I was discussing with some guildies this evening the "key points" in WoWs history (like personally feeling that Ulduar was the closest to raiding perfection with a variety of bosses, events, lore, layout, the hard mode switches etc) - what personally do you think the biggest opportunity Blizzard can take forward from Cataclysm is? What 'thing' do you think worked really well and reckon we'll see more of? What do you reckon they've learnt the most from and will endeavour to improve/never-EVER-let-that-happen-again?
You'll never see a story so incredibly focused on just one character again. Thrall's story was the focus of Cataclysm, not the players'. Blizzard has changed the entire focus of questing and story pushes with respect to where the story goes, so expect to see more big, sweeping stuff that you're involved in versus being told the story of Thrall and his magic dragon friends and having some boss fights in between. It's a subtle change to the way the story is presented, but it makes a world of difference.
You will see much more dynamic factions, like the Molten Front storyline stuff, as well as a heavy focus on alternate advancement through minigames like Pet Battles and the Darkmoon Faire. In fact, I would imagine that you will see some kind of synergy between those two aspects of the game.
jd4real asked:
This may have been asked before. But in MoP will flying mounts be enabled in SilverMoon City, Sunwell Plateau, Ghostlands, etc?
Sadly, I don't think that this is ever going to happen. That's a shame, because I loved Silvermoon and the Exodar, and there is practically still no reason to go to two of the most beautiful zones in the game, much less so that you have a rough time getting around.
JordanFarkas asked:
in the latest beta patch we've seen updates to Brewfest epics (463 ilvl). Can we take this as a confirmation that MoP will hit before autumn?
Not necessarily, and changing around those items' stats is probably a pretty quick task on the development side of things. Someone probably just covered their bases before taking a break for lunch.
BKellyCS also asked:
Why are the Alliance and the Horde going to Pandaria? Is it literally a case of "The mists have cleared, let us see what phat lootz await!" or is there something a little more drastic?
Without spoiling too much or saying much at all, really, the Horde and Alliance leaderships both have specific purposes for you and a small, crack team to infiltrate the new continent, establish a forward position, and figure out what's going on. While there, you encounter crazy natives, go on amazing adventures, join up with the lovable pandaren, and learn a thing or two about what friendship and trust mean. It's kind of like The Deer Hunter or Apocalypse Now! with less Russian Roulette and napalm.
We have to wait for patch 5.1 for that.
chorthee asked:
I've seen lots of chat about DOTA, but what does DOTA stand for or mean?
DOTA stands for Defense of the Ancients, a user-created map (and now a synonym for the game mode itself) that spawned a DotA-genre of games including League of Legends, Heroes of Newerth, DOTA 2, and Blizzard All-Stars (or BALLS, as Zarhym and Alex so happily explained to me).
The game mode itself is the now-traditional top/middle/bottom lanes of action where NPC characters fight endlessly but for your meddling interaction, fighting the other team and pushing into their territory to take out their structures. It's a fun, frantic time. If you've never played DotA or any of its variations, it's practically impossible not to try LoL or HoN because they are both totally free, and DOTA 2 is in beta on Steam. Blizzard All-Stars should also be releasing soonish?
Ravyncat1 asked:
After the peanut butter and jelly sandwich conversation yesterday, how many of y'all either made one to eat today or went and bought PB&J ingredients so you could make one?
I am never without materials for a PB&J.
