Don't tell Scotty -- but go ahead and murder him to steal his visage

The marvelous adventures of Scotty the sprite
I am reasonably certain that sprites in World of Warcraft are the stuff of nightmares. Rather than being the adorable little pixies the name indicates, the sprites of Azeroth are strange little demonic leaf-beasts. I would not want to wake up in the middle of the night and see one of these things looming over me. Heck, I wouldn't want to encounter one in broad daylight, either.

But just because the sprites of Azeroth are unsettling, it doesn't mean you can't have some fun with them. And perhaps because they are slightly unnerving, having the ability to turn into one of these creepy little twerps at a whim is actually pretty cool. I'm of the opinion that if you have a chance to startle the heck out of a guildmate, you might as well take it. Which is why I was delighted to find Scotty the sprite.

Scotty, on the other hand, was not quite so happy to see me.

Scotty is very, very well hidden on the island of Sra'vess, on the western edge of Townlong Steppes. If you've done any dailies for the Shado-Pan you've likely been sent to this location. In fact, you've likely been standing right by Scotty's house without even knowing it. This level 89 elite is camping out right under the mantid's nose at coordinates 21,47 on Sra'vess, but coordinates aren't going to get you very far, because Scotty's awfully clever.

His house is actually nestled in the roots underneath the tree in the middle of the island. In orderThe marvelous adventures of Scotty the sprite to get to it, you need to sneak behind another house that is surrounded by mantid who aren't exactly happy to see you -- the same mantid you clear out for Shado-Pan dailies. If you head to the coordinates given, you'll see the mantid house, along with a bright purple bush to the left of the building -- I've taken a screenshot of the house and circled the bush for the purposes of illustration. Walk through the bush and behind the mantid house and you'll run face first into Scotty's abode. Don't expect Scotty to welcome you with open arms. He's kind of a jerk.

However, upon beating the snot out of Scotty, he'll drop Scotty's Lucky Coin. While it's not terribly lucky for Scotty, it's lucky for you that you happened up on it, because it will transform you into a pretty horrifying looking sprite for ten minutes. You cannot mount while wearing this disguise, and engaging in combat will cause the disguise to go away. In addition, the coin only has three charges -- but you can go back and visit Scotty again to grab another one if you like.

Scotty may be a level 89 elite, but he's not particularly hard to defeat. Interrupt his casts, and watch out for his 1001 Needles ability, because it's every bit as painful as it sounds. If Scotty doesn't happen to be there when you visit, worry not -- because he isn't a rare, his respawn time is relatively quick. As an added bonus, the sprites seem to have been given male goblin animations -- they laugh, they sit, they eat, they even dance. It may not be as random as Gok'lokk's Shell, but Scotty's Lucky Coin is just as useful for bizarre screenshot opportunities.
