The Queue: When work invades raiding

Welcome back to The Queue, the daily Q&A column in which the WoW Insider team answers your questions about the World of Warcraft. Adam Holisky (@adamholisky) will be your host today.

I've been very busy with both my jobs lately. Here at WoW Insider has been hectic (all for good reasons, mind you), and my gig at the Minnesota Opera has been equally busy (although also for a good reason). Being busy is good in jobs, much better than having slow periods... but... it sure as heck cuts into my raiding time.

My poor, poor, guild... they're without my pathetic warlock DPS. Whatever will they do?

Answer: almost get another 25-man boss down.

I should be busy with work more often.

lackinganame asked:

again i may have missed this but do we know if in 5.2 the current set of valor gear will no longer take valor points and will instead be switched to justice points like we saw happen to gear sets in the Cata days?

No, the current valor set will still require valor points. The only difference is that it'll require half the current amount of valor to purchase if the gear comes from the original 5.0 MoP factions, and 75% the current amount of valor if it comes from the 5.1 Shieldwall/Domaince faction.

Personally I'm not thrilled with this change. While it does allow alts to gear up faster in patch 5.2, it's not going to be as fast as it used to be, and I think that'll provide a stiff penalty in terms of coming into the raiding scene mid-expansion. One of the big unknown factors will be how much patch 5.0 LFR's content is going to be ran during patch 5.2's lifetime. If it gets ran "enough" then queue's shouldn't be too bad and be imposing, but what if the queue ends up being two hours for a DPS? At that point there's a significant gearing problem (because a lot of people will just leave the queue and not wait for that long, I know I wouldn't). If that happens, then the gearing problem can't be solved by valor cuts alone, it'll have to be solved by making the valor gear purchaseable with justice points.

I'm curious to see why Blizzard did this. They might be "seeing how it goes" on the live realms, or they might have some other idea. I've tweeted El Crawler, we'll see if he answers back.

Rmatulac asked:

Long story short: I'm looking to transfer a higher population PVE server with a lot of PUG availability. Any great suggestions?

Any high population PvE realm is going to be as good as any other, for the most part. Check out the realm forms to make sure there's a few decent pugs groups running regularly. That'll be a good indicator if there's at least some community spirit on the realm. Just don't expect to get in those groups, or transfer to that realm for that reason alone. You'll also want to make an alt and watch the city chat channels at night on a popular raiding night, like Tuseday or Wenesday. See what people are doing and what they're offering up in terms of groups.

However... I think LFR has killed a lot of the raid pugging. While it still is possible to pug, and my 25-man guild has been known to fill a few spots here and there, for the most part pugs go to LFR. For myself at least, I'd always take my alts on pug raids back in Wrath and early Cataclysm. Now I just queue for LFR and watch an episode of Star Trek while I wait.

Shaobito asked:

What is the time requirement that you have to wait before you can petition a GM about an offline Guild Master?

This is process called "Guild Dethroning" and isn't as hard as it used to be. Previously you had to get in touch with a GM, and then get the right GM at that, in order for the GM to be removed. Here's how it works:
  1. The guild leader needs to be offline for 90 consecutive days
  2. A message will appear in the Guild News and Events feed with a link to dethrone the guild master
  3. Characters who are rank three and two will be able to click the link to dethrone the GM, lower ranks get an error if they click it
More information is available at Blizzard's support page.
