WoW Insider has the latest on the Mists of Pandaria!

The Queue: The old gods and the new

Welcome back to The Queue, the daily Q&A column in which the WoW Insider team answers your questions about the World of Warcraft. Alex Ziebart will be your host today.

Okay, that headline is a little misleading. Only Old Gods found within. The new have to wait their turn.

JoshMcGee asked:

Do you think there will ever be an "Old Gods" Expansion? Or is there lore too closely related to the Titans to have their own expansion away from the Titan one, or are we going to just keep getting one Old God per expansion until their story is up?

The last part of your question there is my answer: almost every expansion has been an Old God expansion. Most major conflicts we've dealt with in World of Warcraft are driven by the Old Gods, and we've probably killed more mobs related to the Old Gods than any other villain. Classic WoW had C'Thun, Wrath of the Lich King had Yogg-Saron, the Cataclysm happened because the Old Gods controlled Deathwing, and Mists of Pandaria is completely based around the Sha, which are remnants of an Old God. Burning Crusade didn't have any obvious Old Gods, but it had some Old God-likes that are native to Draenor, and you could argue the Burning Legion has some connection as well.

I think if we had an expansion that focus exclusively on the Old Gods, it would be a bit uninspired. Old Gods are old hat now. Looting boar livers would be more epic at this point. We need a break from the Old Gods.

levi.coffey asked:

I've heard that they're going to be nerfing the amount of VP required for the Wrathion legendary quest "A Test of Valor" from 6000, to 3000. Two questions - is this the case? If it is, will the nerf effect those already working on the quest? Say I have 2500 vp towards the total when the patch drops. Will I need to get 500 more to complete, or, since I STARTED the quest before the nerf, would I still need to go all the way to 6000?

A reader answered this really well in the comments, so I'm going to cheat and copy/paste that.

Shiny164 answered:

Ghostcrawler answered this on Twitter - it will definitely affect those already on the quest. If you already have 3000 VP by the time the patch drops, at worst you'll need to get one more VP gain in order for it to register that you're done.

PaulLloyd asked:

When they add new character models, should players be given the choice to keep existing models or should they change all for the sake of consistency?

They should absolutely allow it to be a choice. One of the reasons Blizzard was so reluctant to make new character models was because they feared players wouldn't like them, and thus would lose their connection to their own character. That's a valid fear. It's a fear that I have! I'm really attached to my characters, and while Blizzard's modeling work is usually top notch, that doesn't mean I will necessarily like their new vision for the character that I play. They may also make an "oops" on one of the races and end up with female worgen 2.0.

Allowing you to choose to keep the old model resolves that problem up front. If I like the new stuff, I'll switch. If I don't, I get to keep the identity I liked for my character.
