The Queue: WoW's deep story, servers of bygone eras, SoO farming, pie

Welcome back to The Queue, the daily Q&A column in which the WoW Insider team answers your questions about the World of Warcraft. Adam Holisky (@adamholisky) will be your host today.

Some nice questions in the Queue today, so let's get 'er done.

Rollo asked:

Can WoW support a deep story? Can it support a promising story for both factions in a single expansion without both feeling shallow? (I think TBC was a possible example of that) I used to think that WoW does have a deep story, however i realize now that only by looking at the entirety of the universe does it seem deep.

Depending on what your definition of a deep story, I think WoW already does support it. To me a deep story is one that has many interwoven plots and a long cast of characters that reflect proper amounts in reality. While WoW isn't A Song of Fire and Ice deep, it's certainly not the simplicity of Dan Brown's stuff either.

As far as both factions having a compelling story, yes, I think it's already been demonstrated too in Wrath -- both Alliance and Horde had different paths and means to (spoiler alert) defeat Arthas. The quests in Dragonblight in particular with the opening of the Wrath Gate are some of the most well done interactive story telling of all time, I believe.

Now with your last sentence you're looking at something that's not entirely fair I feel. While the WoW universe as a whole hasn't been worked out (ie: there's many different levels of reality, many different worlds, etc...). But that's not because the story itself isn't deep and compelling, it's just that because the whole thing is so damned huge, the story hasn't taken us there yet.

Eventually I think it will, and when judging WoW's tomes of lore, I think it's important to judge not what hasn't been done, but what has. We've had tons and tons of amazing story already -- and some of the best parts of WoW's story can be held up to the best parts of any modern fiction, I believe.

Drindaar asked:

I know the idea has been brought up numerous times in the past, however, with the trend of F2P and WoW maybe coming F2P in the future, do you think we have a better chance of seeing expansion specific servers? This is something the community wants, and I can definitely see people paying money to play on a server of their preferred expansion. Thoughts?

First and foremost, WoW is not going to be going F2P in the near future. Chilton was just extrapolating on the possibilities, and he's made it clear that we won't be seeing it soon. And given Blizzard's definition of soon, I take that to mean we'll never see it while this site is still around or any of us are still playing.

Now to the question. Blizzard has said over and over that they're not going to do individual servers for previous content and states of the game. So no classic server, not BC server, etc... That being said, I don't agree -- I think at some point Blizzard is going to have to do this, even if it means limited support and no GMing, etc... Even now, do you know how many people would come back to play on a BC-only server? An absolute fracken ton would.

Revnah asked:

I'm still catching up on the Legendary quest after my break from WoW. Currently I'm at 2/12 Runestones, so I'll still be collecting those when 5.4 drops. So what bosses exactly do I farm for Runestones then? All of SoO and still the second half of ToT, is that correct?

Iqwacp said it in the comments: Last 6 bosses from ToT, first 8 bosses in SoO.

Sproggerz asked:

What is your favourite flavour of pie? I want to bake one but I can't decide.

Lemon Meringue. And FYI, I'm very proud of spelling that right on my first try without Google.
