Welcome back to The Queue, the daily Q&A column in which the WoW Insider team answers your questions about the World of Warcraft. Adam Holisky (@adamholisky) will be your host today.
Lots of questions yesterday, so I picked a few that are good points right now and went with it. Note that the writers on WoW Insider don't know a whole lot more than what was announced at BlizzCon. If we do have insights into other things, we'll share what we can. But for instance, no, we don't know how much a level 90 character is going to cost in the Blizzard Store.
Is anyone going to bother leveling? Why spend all that time when you can just go to the store and buy a level 90 toon? This games a joke.
I'm pretty sure that a lot of people will still choose to level a toon through the experience. What I'm guessing is that we'll see a large boost in level 100 population, and that will help focus the game more on that experience. Blizzard will have to provide more end game content, and have to provide it in a way that the masses enjoy. That's simple market demand, and it's a good thing (and Blizzard knows this all around).
I doubt that we're going to see a time when leveling is never a thing. The game isn't going to magically start you at level 90 one day. It'll give you the option for a price, but it won't be an automatic thing. And on that note the boosted level is a choice, it's not an automatic thing. You don't have to take advantage of it, and so it doesn't mater if those around you have used it or not.
Further, on a side note, somewhat: think of the number of times people have said things are going to ruin the game. Then think of the times that they have. It's few and far between -- increasing the end-game population isn't going to ruin WoW -- it's going to bring it back. #WoWIsBack
Is the instant level 90 boost going to be available in the store?
We're pretty sure this is going to happen. Right now you'll get a free level 90 with any Warlords of Draenor purchase. And that's nice for the millions upon millions of us buying the expansion. However what will happen, and Blizzard knows this, is that people will just constantly buy new copies of the expansion on a newly created account that's attached to their battle.net ID, and then just transfer the character over.
This is dumb. I have no other word for such actions*.
So instead, smartly, they're likely going to make a boost to level 90 available via the store.
*So maybe dumb isn't the most politically correct thing to say, but when you're doing an unnecessary action to get something that could be delivered much simpler, that is a major waste of resources. Blizzard isn't a dumb company, so I fully expect the boost to appear in the store. Maybe not right away, but soon after launch.
Thought I should include my own questions and Cory Stockton's (Lead Content Designer in WoW) answer.
Why a whip? Why not?
