Shaohao saw the races of the world unite to defeat Deathwing, and finally overcame his pride and parted the mists as if to say "the world is ready to meet the pandaren." He was ... maybe not as right as he thought. But hey, playable pandaren! Woo!

Well, with everyone being able to make a 90, the 55 requirement would seem to be redundant, but that really only applies to people who've purchased WoD. So the requirement is likely to stick around.
