Welcome back to The Queue, the daily Q&A column in which the WoW Insider team answers your questions about the World of Warcraft. Adam Holisky (@adamholisky) will be your host today.
Lots of different questions in the Queue today, and I get to talk about my new squeeze, Guild Wars 2.
I just leveled my toon in Guild Wars 2 almost exclusively by crafting. Is there a way to do this in WoW?
I love Guild Wars 2 crafting. For those unaware, here's how it works in brief:
- You can make things (which level your crafting) that you automatically learn recipes for.
- You can discover recipes by combining different raw and pre-crafted materials. Each discovery you make levels your profession.
- You can buy crafting recipes via vendors for different types of currency (like WoW).
- You can gather everything in the game, however higher level tools are needed to gather higher level resources.
- All crafting and gathering gives you XP for your character.
But would this work for WoW? I don't think so. And here's why:
Guild Wars 2 has a much different learning curve than WoW does, and frankly, has a lot less skills available. The typical player at 90 has at least two action bars filled with stuff. That's 20 skills. In Guild Wars 2, you've got 9 -- and the most important five are filled in your first few levels. Now that's not rip on Guild Wars 2 at all, the system works great for that game and there's a ton of depth to the skills and various combinations there in (more so than most classes in WoW have, I think).
But what doesn't translate is the learning curve. WoW starts very easy and gets more complicated as time goes on. While I love the instant 90 thing, one of the things I really don't like is that there isn't an introductory experience that teaches you how to play. That teaching doesn't need to happen over 90 levels, but it still needs to take place. But in Guild Wars 2, by the time you're level 10, you've basically got the abilities you're going to have at 80 (note that this is an over simplification, so all you GW2 fans don't go nuts please).
So leveling by crafting in Guild Wars 2 works because of the underlying skill and ability system (which has a lot of depth). In WoW, it wouldn't work, because of the underlying skill and ability system (which has a lot of breath).
Did i read some where that Garrisons with display feats of strength ? such as early Onyxia kill with a mounted head ? stuff like that or was i just wish full thinking ?
Not that I've seen. They'll display trophies, but that's all we've heard.
So I logged in after weeks of only playing D3 and discovered that the "Heart of the Valorous" buff isn't active. What's up?
Rygarius tweeted earlier this week that the buffs are not active at the release of the patch. They're coming online later, though.
If I faction change my panda does she stay a panda or do I get to pick a new race?
You get a race change included in the faction change, so you'll be able to pick a new one. But the real question is, why would you want to get rid of your Pandaren? Best race ever, amirite?
Why can't EU players download the classic games like Blackthorne, Lost Vikings etc?
There's a lot of (silly) licensing restrictions on these things, and our collective governments don't help the situation at all. There's other ways to get around the restrictions, such as making a US Battle.net account -- because the games are free you'll be good.
