The Queue: Sentimental value, garrisons, and heavy metal

If you aren't reading this at work or school, I recommend playing this song in the background while you read today's Queue. Why? All will become clear in time.

I have noticed an awful lot of people talking about what ilevel they need in order to avoid replacing gear when we get into WoD. I'm just curious as to why people seem to consider replacing old gear often while leveling a bad thing? For me personally, it's an aspect of leveling through new content that I really enjoy. I enjoy both the sense of progression it gives, as well as the visual variety (I don't mind "clown suits" while leveling and don't xmog til max level). I'm not saying everyone who doesn't like replacing gear is wrong at all, just that I don't see the appeal. Does it have to do with replacing gear that took you so long to earn so quickly?
I think you have it right with that last part. When you've spent countless hours grappling with raid bosses and the like to get your current gear, you know you've earned that gear. Wearing it gives an epic feeling. Replacing it with quest greens doesn't feel as epic. People like to make the items with sentimental value last as long as possible.
My paladin got Shadowmourne in Wrath of the Lich King. I tried holding onto it as long as possible in Cataclysm, even passing up weapons that were small upgrades. There was absolutely no way I was replacing my legendary with a green-quality item, and a blue had to be a really impressive blue to make me even consider it. I don't remember what finally replaced it, but I do recall my guild being very frustrated with how stubborn I was about it. Shadowmourne had sentimental value. Random Quest Blue meant nothing.
junitogodzilla asked:
Where is the WoD Version of Maraad? Besides Velen & Akama I'm not seeing counterparts of our people showing up.
If one exists, we don't run into him. We don't run into any duplicates at all in Warlords of Draenor. We either meet their Warlords timeline version, or we bring our timeline's version with us. One or the other, not both. It's just easier that way.
That doesn't mean they don't exist. They might be out there. But we won't see them, so they're not particularly relevant.

What's the status of Add-ons currently on the beta? I've not seen any of it this time around but I remember MOP beta had add-on use enabled a few weeks before it went live to give authors a chance to fix anything that might be broken with changed commands etc. I'm concerned that stuff like Bagnon is going to be pointless with all the bag changes and I promised that I'd help update Panda which I've not been able to do as yet.
Addons have been enabled on the beta for awhile now. If you look at the Warlords forums, there are quite a few people discussing bugfixes to existing addons or general Warlords addon development.

Kargath = Nathan Explosion. Confirm/deny?
Thank you! I've been saying this in our newsroom since last BlizzCon. He's the spitting image. We aren't being attacked by the warlords of Draenor. We've being attacked by Dethklok. Kargath and Grom both have the hair for it.
@BaptMahieux asked:
What's for dinner tonight?
Beer battered fish filets and seasoned fries. Or, if you're from the appropriate part of the world, fish and chips.
@Macrologia asked:
Favourite and least favourite things coming in WoD?
Garrisons and garrisons. I like some of the things they do like follower missions, a neat base of operations, and so forth. But I also had a vision of them that was quite different and I'm sad we aren't getting that. There isn't nearly as much customization as I'd hoped and I think garrisons are going to have a very bizarre impact on professions. Still, there are aspects of it that are fun. The farm was fun in Mists of Pandaria and all you did was stick seeds in the ground and pull them up later. Garrisons have more going on than that.
Still, I always pictured something more grand, something with more aesthetic customization, something more personal. You can swap buildings in and out, but it still doesn't feel much like customization. There aren't that many options and it's always going to come down to min/maxing when there are numbers involved.
@AngerFork asked:
Would you consider it a better use of your starting time in WoD to get each in their Garrison first, or get your main to 100?
It takes very little time to get your garrison. Less than an hour once you know what's going on with the opening questchain. That being said, the garrison doesn't start providing significant value until later on, so ... I'm not really sure why you would rush all of your alts to a brand new garrison and then do nothing else with them. If you want a level 100 quickly, focus on doing that. If you're going to play a bunch of characters and not rush any one in particular to level 100 first, might as well get a jump on their garrison progress.
